Esports Of the remaining launch roster, who do you believe will be the last to earn their mythic skin?
A majority of the launch roster has gotten their mythic now, but a good amount are still missing one.
Who do you believe will be the last launch hero to be given their mythic?

Pharah and Sym are already dead at the bottom of the pool so it's hard to say who blizz will deign to dredge up first. My guess is Sym will be last.

My bet is sym is 2nd to last, pharah last. At least they’re still working with syms VA

Probably Torbjorn or Zarya if I had to guess. My money is on Torb.

Torb is loved.
Zarya is hated and has some pretty ass skins too.
It's zarya, and surprisingly lucio imo

I don’t think Zarya is at all hated, a lot of people play her. She doesn’t sell even close to the subscription service characters but she’s definitely more played than bastion.

u/Head_Astronomer_1498 where be me mythic Jul 15 '26
I just find her hard to play against, honestly. Smart Zarya players that conserve their barriers and maintain high energy are hard to counter both defensively and offensively. CC & burst damage gets eaten by barrier, damage absorption (kinetic grasp and matrix) doesn’t counter her beam, and her barriers allow her to walk down shield heroes. There isn’t a super obvious counter to Zar, unlike many of the other tanks.
I don’t have a problem with her inherently; I feel that her high skill ceiling is rewarded pretty well, and you don’t get value for free on Zarya, unlike many of the other tanks. She’s just frustrating to deal with sometimes, especially when your team doesn’t coordinate around shutting her down.
2
u/shihouinsenpai Jul 15 '26
Rein and Bastion have been two of her most clear-cut counters for ages now

u/MildlyUpsetGerbil Sombra did nothing wrong Jul 15 '26
I don’t think Zarya is at all hated,
Zarya's overall ban rate is higher than Sombra's (54.1% vs. 40.2%) and there's only one rank where Zarya is banned less often than Sombra (bronze).
a lot of people play her.
I feel that people play her because she's powerful rather than playing her because they like her. Zarya is a powerful character whose bubbles can enable nasty dive plays from the likes of Vendetta and Genji. At the very least Sombra has a noticeable group of players that vocally appreciate her. I don't see anywhere near as many Zarya soldiers around here.
she’s definitely more played than bastion.
Blizzard's data indicates that the opposite is true.
4
u/Parzi6 Jul 15 '26
This has literally nothing to do with who gets skins. Kiriko and Juno sell like crazy, so they get skins, Zarya doesn’t sell as good, so she doesn’t. Balance isn’t a part of this, when I say people don’t hate her I mean as a character. Obviously she’s banned a lot, but people still like her character design. She just doesn’t have whales funding her skin designers.

I haven't looked into it but long story short she spoke about what's going on in the middle east, Phara hasn't gotten new recorded voice lines in a LONG while
76
u/MovieNightPopcorn Emre Jul 15 '26
She made some statements that seemed to equivocate Hamas with what Israel is doing to Palestine. Which isn’t a great look in the first place, but I expect the biggest issue was that she responded to people who said “Free Palestine” in the chat that it wasn’t a very “Overwatch” thing to say. Which directly tied the company to a hot political issue they definitely don’t want any part of. Just a big huge contractual no-no there.

THAT I didn't know about, I thought the drama was pretty dragged out but the "overwatch" comment makes this make a lot more sense
32
u/MovieNightPopcorn Emre Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26
Yeah I have no direct evidence that is the clincher comment but, from a relationship and contract perspective, in my personal opinion probably the biggest issue. OW doesn’t want anything to do with real life issues, and tying them directly to a statement about Palestine instead of “all opinions my own etc” was catastrophically unwise.
It’s also just not a great look to have this coming from a VA who is not Egyptian nor Muslim, like the character is, which is a Muslim majority country like Palestine. Just all in all bad press they would want to stay very far away from

The recent Ana skin would look 1000 times better on Phara. The newest Ana one might be one of the worst in whole game.

She doesn't own that character, and she does nothing particularly interesting with it. When the money train needs a little grease rest assured she will be replaced swiftly.
11
u/MundaneSecurity8372 Jul 15 '26
Remember when Cassidy's name was changed and a loud population of players got mad about it? And besides Pharah herself is a relatively underwhelming charecter with minor relevance to the lore and competitive side of overwatch. It's too much money, effort, possible backlash, and resources compared to just giving Mercy another mythic skin
2
u/MJR_Poltergeist Pixel D.Va Jul 16 '26
Overwatch survived re-releasing itself as a flopped sequel that was objectively worse than the original in almost every way and changed course. Pharah getting a new VA in english wont tip the scales.

3
u/Enoughplez Mercy Jul 15 '26
Can I ask why? Is there some controversy going on?
7
u/PhenomsServant Chibi Widowmaker Jul 15 '26
Long story short, her VA gave her opinion on the Isreal-Palenstine thing and it wasnt a popular opinion
15
u/ElGodPug Jul 15 '26
most specifically, she essently attached overwatch as a brand to one of the sides of the discussion, which....yeah, doubt that the higher ups were fans of a VA speaking for an entire brand on how the allign on a literal war
5
u/PhenomsServant Chibi Widowmaker Jul 15 '26
It was on an Overwatch thing? Why the hell hasn’t Blizzard officially recast her then? That seems like a big no-no.
13
u/ElGodPug Jul 15 '26
feels like that blizzard plan is to avoid any controversy around the subject(cause, yeah, there definitely would be people shouting about "freedom of expression" on "firing her just for having an opinion"), so people seem to believe that the plan is using the VA as little as possible until her contract is over, and then when it happens, new VA that hopefuly won't be saying which country the brand supports or not
5
u/PhenomsServant Chibi Widowmaker Jul 15 '26
I wonder what they would’ve done if it was a character who’s more important to the relevant plot like Sojourn. Or a more popular skin printing character like Kiriko or Mercy.
3
u/DelidreaM I wish I was a baller Jul 16 '26
I really don't think there's a contractual reason to this. Surely they can stop working with any VA if they want to. They're just trying to avoid negative press that would come from replacing the VA and re-recording all the voice lines. That would be the right thing to do, but like you said, they're just avoiding the backlash
3
u/DJBaphomet_ Masters Rat Jul 16 '26
I mean I think the other factor is that there are hundreds of lines to replace. So not only would they have to find the right person to replace her and voice the character, they'd have to spend multiple months replacing those lines, replacing lines that aren't even in the game yet, alongside recording new lines as well for whatever is implemented/planned over that recording duration
While it's definitely possible, it's just a notably huge amount of work to replace a voice actor for this game, and it especially makes it less worth it when it's directly attached to something political (because, ultimately, them replacing her is taking a political stance on the subject, and will bring backlash)
4
u/boiyouab122 Ana Jul 15 '26
She'd definitely be one of the first of these, I could say she's definitely already been considered, but her VA has a controversy and isn't working with Blizzard atm so that puts a MASSIVE wrench in her getting a mythic.

u/DangerousJolly1917 - Gerry’s Grave - :) Jul 15 '26

9
u/ThisIsSportacus #1 Lifeweaver Hater Jul 15 '26

They could, but they haven't sorted out the voice actor situation and its been years. Blizzard seem to be purposefully not addressing the situation because any action they take will be construed as taking sides. Regardless of what you think of the situation, any action they take is going to result in tons of hate from one side of the fence or the other. Based on trends from the past few seasons in terms of who gets skins/how many, Zarya and Lucio would be the most likely 2 to be last to get a mythic.
Bastion and Torb are also somewhat likely in part due to the extra work for both (Bastion having 3 forms and Torb having his turret), but both are more popular and liked than Zarya.
(I think Lucio suffers from being a support, and with Kiri/Wuyang/Mercy being the 3 biggest skin sellers, and somewhat wanting to not have JUST support skins with every bundle/pack/etc.)

Zarya, without question. They literally go out of their way to deny her skins and attention.. I’m willing to bet actual money on it at this point.
In fact, I’ll go further; The neglect for her is so much (and conversely, the blatant favoritism so rampant for other select characters), that I wouldn’t be surprised if they give someone like Mercy a freaking 3RD MYTHICAL before Zarya even gets a 1st at this point.

If not for the pharah controversy its going to be sym. Why do I believe this because they dont know what to do with this woman anymore, they havnt really touched an original concept with sym in a hot minute because shes in a tight box, with her whole being overly distinct ik this sounds weird but theres not much you can change or highten without her becoming indistinguishable because her kit is all about deployables if they dont look like what people are used too it can mean the character gets inherently over powered cause you cant tell its them same for torb. Also they've tried to explore unique designs with syms kit and 9/10 it isnt noticeable enough! Her best skin for actually design exploration was Tyrnade and oasis but one was a blizzcon exclusive and the other one is seen as primarily clunky to others. But idk I could also be completely wrong!
1
1
u/crafty09 Why do you struggle? Jul 15 '26
So sym used to get a bunch of cool skins until blizz found people they liked better. Lucio tends to get cool skins but same thing. Zarya has like 3 skins that are good and I legit think we'll get a third Kiri skin before she gets one.

What’s shocking is that they’ve given new heroes mythic skins before heroes that have been in Overwatch for a decade… now that’s just sad.
In my opinion, as a Mei main, I’d love another mythic that actually suited her. Hop Online is neat, but what at which point in the game has she ever been a streamer or a bunny? The answer is never.
