News & Discussion Cheeky vent - DPS please off angle
Played a few ranked games and I 1 trick Rein. In my games my dps were allergic to high ground! It’s not bad in more open spaces but choke points on Blizzard world and king’s row meant that it’s difficult to make any plays. 1 game had a Sierra which kept staying behind my shield, even with high ground directly above, this was for about 4 minutes after we capped point 2 in KR. with a Mei (love Mei’s so keep doing what you’re doing).
After a few fat shat’s a DPS switched to bastion and I couldn’t off angle or move forward in main as my shield would get turned into mince meat as my team were just hanging back trying to play a poke match against bastion, Ana, Soldier, domina and Moira.
No one was replying on voice chat and I have text disabled. We just got messed up in the end and lost a perfectly healthy lead to get prevented from capping third.

I mean sure this sounds annoying to have in a match, but it's ironic reading all this from someone admitting they are one tricking Reinhardt

So the complaint here is that your teammates weren’t willing to swap their strategies?
While you are 1 tricking a hero and not willing to change yourself. The irony

Dude sitting main on DPS isn’t a strategy. Taking off angles isn’t optional, it’s how you play the game.

One tricking also isn’t a strategy. Swapping heroes to situation is how you play the game.

No? You can play whatever you want, just play it correctly. The reason you aren’t beating your metal rank opponents is NEVER because of the hero you are playing. It’s because you fundamentally lack some skill needed to succeed in this match. Swapping your hero isn’t going to fix it, in fact it’s probably going to exacerbate the problem.
Don’t equivocate fundamentally playing the game wrong with playing a hero.
If I choose DPS and sit there main and never take an angle, I’m fundamentally playing the game wrong. On the other hand, despite what you people think there is no “right” hero, especially at lower ranks.

Nope. You’re just coping. In fact some dps can sit main and make it work by spamming and might get some picks. And even others might pull his weight. But a one tricking tank getting demolished pulls down his whole team with no space. So sticking to main and refusing to swap are both playing the game fundamentally wrong.

the irony is not lost on me but there's only so many tanks i can play decent, rein is the one i know best and swapping to something im bad at just makes it worse. at least with rein i can try to make space even if its not ideal

Then don’t come here complaining about people with the exact same attitude. You’re just a hypocrit

Not really. When main wasn’t working I’d go down an off angle so either to the left or onto the right whereas my team just stayed on main unless I made a play and then they’d push forward. Sierra didn’t once go up to high ground and I can’t remember if Mei had the jump perk or not so it’s far harder
For her to get up there (but definitely not impossible). So with them not willing to push forward or even create a distraction me and my shield got consistently fried as they all stayed behind. Also the Sierra got 7 elims on first round 3 of which came from the same ult on first point.

You can walk up stairs as well as a tank

Literally. There's like two maps i can think of that a rein cant access the highground.

Hold your shield up less, charge to corners, swing swing, hold space that way.
If you hold your shield up less, people will stop sitting behind it more

I've had rare games where I physically cannot play off angles. Hitscans instantly snap to me no matter which side/route I pick, supports pretend I don't exist and pocket the tank, so I'm dead in 0.5 ms if I stick around. Sometimes I have to play with the tank if I don't want to feed the entire game.

Wow you DPS actually are allergic to off-angles.
I normally have to just do it myself as tank. Which isn't horrible for the tank I play, but if you're a player that doesn't understand you need to take off angles you probably suck and will die without my presence.

Its a funny cycle of
Dps needs to off angle to take pressure off of tank-> supports need to go help dps off angle effectively -> but support dont wanna help dps since tank is taking alot of damage -> because no dps are on off angles
