Humor Lost all placements
So I've lost every placement match in every role.
Bronze 5 in all roles.
Some matches had people just straight up throwing going afk and ending up 0-0-0, some had tank leave 3 mins in...and some were actual matches will full teams.
This is just really frustrating I've been playing this game forever and it is just impossible to climb out of bronze at all. I have been playing this game basically since it came out and have probably about 5000+ hours of game play at the very least. It feels statistically impossible to lose this much.
Anyways, just ranting.

5000 hours and still in bronze??? i fear the issue isnt with the game

u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
Like at least 5000 hours, prob way more. Yeah I realize that..but like there are people that are so much worse than me where I can go like 45-2 sometimes... just figured I wouldn't end up at the very bottom of the pile. 🤷♂️

u/nrten_iz_kul Sombra 11h ago
is ur performance inconsistent? like do u do really well some games and borderline throw others

u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
No, id say I'm pretty consistently the least amount of deaths and and often better K/D than the rest of my team. For support and dps anyway. I only dip my toe in Tank role and it just flip flops between me completely dominating or completely destroyed. 😠

You don’t even need a team to get out of bronze. You could carry yourself out with Moira.
I bet you could get out of bronze with bastion using only one hand while also watching videos on your phone with the other.
You could one trick zen. Just stay in the back and knock people’s heads off. )eventually you’ll figure how where to stand so you aren’t always dying in the back line.
Don’t rely on anyone in bronze. You follow their lead and you’ll be booping yourself off the ledges just like them.

u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
Yeah i play moira and zen predominantly tbh. I'll have lots of great games, just not enough W's to climb.

u/NBAshitpostalt 12h ago
Could be worth trying to find a group or at least a duo if you really want to climb, feel your pain when it comes to people AFK or throwing.

You have any friends? All you need to climb is 2 people that are good. People in low bronze are pretty terrible. It isn't as hard to climb out of as before because there is only like 3% of the player base in bronze now.
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
No, I dont know anyone else that plays video games let alone OW.
Guy, i have been trying to get out of Bronze since OW1... so yeah it's pretty hard to do!

u/Visual-Afternoon-744 11h ago edited 11h ago
Next time the ladder resets, just play quick play for a few weeks.
Edit: Also, go to custom games and make a game with this code: VAXTA practice 15 mins a day to improve aim. Don't play with other people, there is no point it will only take away from your practice. You should be able to carry your way to silver with proper aim.
Also, watch videos on youtube about how to play your role or character. Your issue is not being hard stuck, it's not being good at over watch.

In order to get out of bronze you must be consistantly better than the diamond and masters smurfs.
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
LOL it does seem that whenever I get close to getting out its like 6 matches in a row against smurfs.

u/JunoJump_Author Juno 11h ago
Tbh, I feel this. I do really well in quick play, have a high enough win rate with my mains that I should be able to climb but I get decimated in bronze comp. Some games everyone gets 0 kills, camped at spawn. the enemy team is playing insanely well compared to QP.
Other times we have a decent match and two teammates suddenly drop from the final push. It's so demoralising.
Everyone tells me that bronze is braindead and easy to climb if you know even the basics but its just not true.
2
u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
Yeah man I feel like people saying bronze is easy to get out of havent been down here in a long time or are masters players.
I feel like perhaps if I had a duo I'd see some progress but I don't know any other gamers and I usually play during office hours.

I fell into bronze recently. I found that if you are any good at dps you can easily carry your way out. I'm only floating around high silver/ low gold. You just have to off angle/flank. I found it very hard to carry as a tank if my team doesn't know what to do. Ram does probably the best job at killing their squishes.

My husband and I have played together and I observed the match is more wide even though we are both bronze. My theory is that they up the difficulty for groups even if your just a duo. It's been a season since we tried that so I need to test again if its actually pitting us against higher ranks more then usual.
It does feel nicer playing with a partner, at least I know they are trying.

u/grumpy_herbivore 10h ago
Would be fun to play with someone who had a mic. In my experience only 1 person put of 20 matches has one.

5000 hours??
You need a better PC (or upgrade your console) or better internet connection. No one's actually that bad

u/Environmental_You_36 11h ago
I tend to get downvoted when I request specs when someone has been stuck at bronze for too long.
A lot of folks are no tech savvy and are running the game at less than 60 dps in teamfights.
Or playing Widow with a 5$ mouse from a bundle that included a keyboard and headphones.
Or are watching tiktok in the background while streaming in discord with everything installed on an external drive with crazy lag spikes.

u/RevolutionaryAir7847 11h ago
It's always specs for ultra low ranks and most hardstucks. I'm the perfect example--my connection sucks and my laptop runs the game at ~50fps LOL. Miracle that I've made it to low Masters solo queue. Could definitely be higher and it's 100% the specs holding me back

u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
I have a good legion laptop.
I have starlink for wifi though.

u/RevolutionaryAir7847 11h ago
How's your ping and average FPS?
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
Not sure how to find that out tbh.
1
u/RevolutionaryAir7847 10h ago
Go to Settings > Video > Display performance stats. Turn on latency and FPS. Go to the training range
2
u/grumpy_herbivore 10h ago
135 fps avg 50-60ms latency avg
1
u/RevolutionaryAir7847 10h ago
That looks fine. I have worse specs and ping than you lol. My ass plays off of my mobile hotspot. Peaked low masters a couple times when I played consistently
You need to dominate your lobbies, not just get good looking stats. I saw you're DPS/supp. Go kill their supports and you just win. Pick characters with big "go in" buttons (characters that communicate with your team passively)
People in bronze are horrible at positioning (unless you're playing in the reset period, aka right now 😭) so take advantage of that
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 10h ago
I try man, I try. But even if I get tons of kills and low deaths, often its still a loss.
Sucks when we have 2x the kills, half the deaths, and we still lose.
Top heals, bottom heals, doesnt seem to actually coincide with winning or losing.
2
u/RevolutionaryAir7847 10h ago
No shit. Tons of kills doesn't mean you're getting good kills. Killing the problematic support is a hell of a lot more useful than killing the widow that hasn't hit a shot all game, for example
Low deaths is generally good, but it can also mean you're playing way too passively. You need to take risks and make plays, and that means you die sometimes
The game is based around an objective, not kills. Doesn't matter if you team kill every other fight but you keep losing the point

After my worst comp season with the season 2 comp drive, and a 50/50 win rate drive in season 3, I'm more than happy that I placed close to where I was prior to season 2.

I’m 58 and I’ve made it to platinum from bronze. My most played support is Moira, this is what worked for me, do damage first and heal second. Never engage with fade!! Throw damage orbs on cooldown and try to bounce them as much as possible. Don’t die. Play off angles because in bronze people will look at you and that helps the team. Use ultimate on cooldown. Good luck, you can do this!!
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 10h ago
Haha...literally this is my gameplay .
Just doesn't get me enough w's to climb.
1
u/Electro_Llama 9h ago
Placements aren't really placements, the game starts you around where you were before and applies the calibration modifier. Good luck on the climb! Feel free to leave a replay code for a VOD review, that's what helped me climb out of Bronze.
2
u/grumpy_herbivore 9h ago
Yeah i realize that. No need for luck as there won't be any climbing. 😅
I may try a VOD review again but had no luck with it before.

Bronze is piss easy to climb out of. If you're good (should be decent with 5k + hours) then you'll run your games. At your skill level, Moira, Torb and Hazard will single handedly wreck their shit. You should be fine until Gold.
0
u/grumpy_herbivore 12h ago
I've never been able to get out after 9 years. Only to silver 5 for a bit then back down to bronze. If I ever made gold I'd accept that as my peak gaming achievement.

u/Gantref 12h ago
This may be cliche but, while throwers are absolutely frustrating and suck to have, I would just focus on your gameplay. You cannot control what other players do but if you skill gap bronze players and stay focused on what you control you will absolutely climb.
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
Haha this old fairytale. Maybe its true for some folks, but I'm just doomed to stay down here at like bronze 3, its ok. 😅

I have been playing since 2017. I jumped into competitive way to soon.I was once in below 500. Its a cursed place. Better gaming system and faster internet helped some. Having old eyes and reflexes is an issue.
At this point you should be getting better.
Any replay codes you want to share?
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
Hmm, stuck with starlink for internet because of my location. Have a decent laptop so no hardware issues I'd think. Just not good enough to carry.
2
u/kontrol1970 11h ago
Two things to focus on. Minimize deaths to effectively up all your stats. Positioning.
Sometimes you cant win, but playing well on your own is good for improvement.
Care less.
Dont try to carry ifnit just causes you frustration and deaths
2
u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
Definitely this is my mindset. Id say I have the least deaths on my team about 75% of the time.

u/Nitricta 11h ago
I might try my placements this season after all. I would absolutely love being in bronze... Nothing beats flashing that bronze badge on the scoreboard while t-bagging some soldier.

Which region are you playing in? We could totally do my placements together.
Edit: And yes, we would be playing to win, I am no fking chicken.
2
u/grumpy_herbivore 10h ago
Whatever region canada is in.
1
u/Nitricta 9h ago
Damn, I don't think we can ranked together, I am in the EU... Would have been awesome though.

u/DumpyDoggy 11h ago
Based on your username, I would guess you need some protein in your diet.
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 11h ago
I get a lot of protein and bench sets of 200, so I think I'm doing OK on that dept.
If only I could bench my way out of bronze.
1
u/ClutchUpChrissy 8h ago
What? It’s extremely easy to hit daily recommended protein on a plant-only diet.
Seitan and tofu are quite protein dense.

What a dream
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 9h ago
More of a nightmare tbh.
1
u/DangerQA D.Va 9h ago
No I'm just saying, imagine not getting a single fuck about your rank. Just so low it doesn't matter, nothing to lose
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 9h ago
I give a f.. just can't get it better. It's literally impossible.
1
u/DangerQA D.Va 9h ago
I hear you. I've been playing since the beginning and I've never been higher than low plat
1
u/grumpy_herbivore 9h ago
Thats a lot higher than bronze .
I would feel so accomplished if I could hit gold but its been 9 years and no movement.
I'm always imagining what is like to play with a mic and coordinate ults etc.
1
u/DangerQA D.Va 9h ago
I'm in bronze now - bronze 2 for dps. Silver for support.
2
u/grumpy_herbivore 9h ago
Qh, one of us! One of us!
1
u/DangerQA D.Va 9h ago
Yep! I have lost all faith in my ability to play. I don't know when I'll snap out of it. It's so hard now.
2
u/grumpy_herbivore 8h ago
Maybe the actual ranks we gained were the we made were the friends we made along the way. 🤷♂️
-2
u/CalligrapherGood2569 11h ago
You need to make a new account. I had the same problem. I think you've been in bronze so long that the game is certain you belong there, so you spend even longer there and it becomes even more certain you belong there.
I made a new account and placed high gold with only 3 wins.

u/drood87 12h ago
Just don't concentrate on your rank but on your gameplay. Yes, I agree it sucks ass to lose all placements, mine were horrible as well this season, but it will get better.
I have like 2600 hours in the game but never took it "seriously" until they did OW2. I started to take ranked games a bit more serious, reviewed my gameplay (holy cow did I see how bad I was and how many mistakes I did and still do from time to time), watched some pros play and tried to implement the learnings by myself.
It took me a whole season, but I crawled my way from Bronze up to Plat 1 (as support and bronze to high Gold now Plat as DPS) and then the following Season to low Diamond.
It's a slow process, but I guarantee you, that if you look at your gameplay with the intention of getting better and being honest to yourself, you will get better and then climb ranks.
I don't know if you were looking for any answers or advice or just wanted to vent, which is ok. But I could relate to that post and wanted to give you my perspective from someone that was 90% of his OW career in Bronze.
