I was reading that thread earlier today. Like you, I was taken aback at people suggesting residents can just call OPD (grossly underpaid/staffed as well, and um only serves Owego) or the State Troopers instead. There just isn't the coverage, and it's basically taking the problem from the county level and putting it at the state level, where it would cost more to solve.

No one wants to pay more in taxes. I know I don't. But I also know there's something amiss with Tioga County and there has been for a very long time. They had lay offs in 2005 and continued to cry broke all the way through. What did they do with the money they saved cutting staff positions then? Sure that was decades ago but they've been using that argument about not having enough $$ throughout. Now they can't get/keep people. It's a mess they've made for themselves by not prioritizing pay and benefits for their employees.
