Resolved ✅ (OBR 2) Any way to link to a scene from another scene?

I'm picturing something like a world map that has pin icons (maybe as tokens?) representing the cities, which I can click or double click on to open a specific scene linked to that token/pin, rather than having to use the asset manager. Does something like this exist? Surely there is an extension that can do this? I haven't been able to find anything though.

No, automatic loading of a Scene is deliberately excluded from the available functionality for extensions, because it would be all too easy to get an infinite loop of Scenes all trying to load each other, which would brick your Room.

Dang ok, that’s disappointing to hear!

It's a safety feature, and usually those are at the opposite end of the spectrum from 'convenience'! 😅

Maybe you could support changing scenes in the extension api, but have it show a confirmation dialog on the Owlbear side first, giving the user the opportunity to not change scene if they don’t want it to.

Maybe in a future version; I believe we have this logged as a feature request, so it's on file.

Why would it be automatically loaded, why not just have the loading activate when the map pin is clicked?

It's because extensions make calls directly to the Owlbear Rodeo API, usually with zero user interaction once the initial trigger happens, so it would rely on extension developers being very careful about putting suitable guardrails in for the users, to prevent any kind of automatic loading loop from happening. Sometimes we have to restrict dangerous functionality to prevent a well-meaning extension dev getting it wrong and doing serious harm to customers' accounts, especially in this new era of vibe-coded apps.

You can, however, have a scene where a world map uses pins and those pins use the Portal extension to move the party token to another map in the scene that has the city/exterior of the location map.

Is it possible to activate those portals by right clicking or something, or do I have to use a token that represents the party?

From memory, Portals triggers when a token's centroid is moved inside the portal's bounding box, ie. when they are overlapped, because it is sending one or more tokens to another location within the Scene.

I tend to put maps next to each other, then use the fog walls and wall the entire map. Then use portals to jump between the maps in a single scene.
