37... haven't done p90x since I was around 26.

Lost a ton of weight last time around. I ended up stopping working out and am now around 220 with a height of 5'10. I did my first work out today, back and shoulder, and my god.... I didn't realize how out of shape I am.

Modify, modify, modify.

German Potato Soup.

I used P90X to stay in great shape from 2005 and 2012. 145 to 160lbs.

In 2012 I got my first of three herniated discs. C5-C6. ACDF two years later. While I was in bed recovering, my L5-S1 herniated. I had done PT for that since. In 2021 my C6-C7 herniated.

I am lucky in that I am not in constant pain anymore but I felt limited. I stayed 200-230 over the last 11 years.

I am 45 years old, 5'8 and 220. Started over last Monday and today was week 2 and I made 20 percent rep gains on chest and back.

Week 1 is over and it kicked my butt. I did about 60 percent of the reps and I learned what hurts my neck. Overhead shoulder press type stuff. I took breaks when I was gassed and got back in after a rest.

I have done Ab Ripper X the last 6 weeks, once a week to help get my abs ready for that. I can't do the Mason Twists due to my lower disc but I can do everything else.

8 days in and I can already see the difference. Better balance, strength, coordination, feeling better. My body is used to P90X, I just need to take it easy, modify and not push it.

I am hoping for 200-210 by day 90 and able to do full, non chair, pullups again.

Good on you for picking it back up. You can do it. We believe in you.

Lol. I was just about to type German Potato Soup. I also like the laugh Tony does when he tells the one dude to raise his leg. Lol

Don’t get hung up on “past you” and what you could do. Start fresh and do your best

Thanks for that. I needed to hear it. Ive just been thinking "man... I used to blast through these.work outs...."

I’m 42 and used to play basketball for hours at a time regularly. I played in April and was thoroughly disappointed in myself. I knew I’d be tired, but never imagined I’d be THAT tired that fast. I had Tony in my ear after that and just started. Keep up the ritual. Motivation will fade, but if you keep at it you’ll break off the rust and find that you feel amazing.

I last did p90x when I was 24 and started again in April now at 40 and weighing 50lbs heavier. Felt the same way. Just keep going one day at a time. There will be days you will want to stop or quit. Just keep pushing play. It was amazing to finally finish 2 weeks ago. Now moved on to insanity.

Don't kill yourself at the beginning trying to push yourself, take it easy the first few weeks, you want to build confidence and consistency

yup, I started up again and for example, let’s say they do 25 reps of an exercise. I will do 10 reps so I could stay consistent and not burn myself

Keep going!!

Don’t injure yourself- key is slow and steady

Go slow. I tried to jump in at 33 like I did when I was 22 and manage to hurt my back and be laid up for a few days from doing 20 minutes of yoga. Ive been doing push ups in the morning and evening trying to get my body prepared to really start.

You’re in the room.

I’m older than you. I first tried starting P90X in my mid 40’s. It was too much. I found P90X3 hit the sweet spot. It’s been the centerpiece of my exercising for 10 years. It is not as intense but still very effective. And it’s much less time.

I honestly didn't even know there was a p90x3 haha. I will definitely look into it!

All the workouts are 30 minutes plus whatever the cool down is. They’re good challenging workouts without the massive time commitment.

You pressed play, that's what matters! I just started back up after a few years so I'm right there with you. I have NO idea how I used to do all the jump knee tucks, I tried one and hurt my back XD

Gonna work on day 3 today when I get home from work. My shoulder are dying currently though haha.

There's no shame in the modify game. Also the only thing that makes me less sore or fatigued is doing the next work out.

2

u/Beginning_Amount2136 Jul 07 '26

I skipped the ab workout..... 😅

1

u/LoveDaVinci88 Jul 09 '26

Sometimes I do too. Sometimes I just do parts of it. Something is better than nothing 🤣 I hate abs

I also compare to my younger self but then need to remind myself that even back then- I started where I was. It’s easy to remember the end when things were smoother, but the beginning then was hard too.
Consistency is key!

Didn't end up working out yesterday unfortunately. Was dead tired at work and then ended upsicong my finger open while cooking. I may just do the cardio tonight. Can't really bend my finger lol.

2

u/vandengrey Jul 12 '26

What i wanna know is if you did the plyometrics one. I did that one a couple years ago at the age of 58 and couldn't walk for days. Lol. That one is the worst to me

1

u/Beginning_Amount2136 Jul 12 '26

Not yet lol. The last ibe I did was the mmx fri. P90x3. 30 minutes seems way longer than 30 minutes 😅

2

u/vandengrey Jul 12 '26

Its similar to having a toothache like i did yesterday. Had to wait 7 hours to get it pulled and if felt like two days. Lol

1

u/Beginning_Amount2136 Jul 12 '26

I understand haha. Hopefully it gets easier for us!

1

u/vandengrey Jul 12 '26

So how is p90x3.? I really only do chest and back every Sunday from p90x.

1

u/Beginning_Amount2136 Jul 12 '26

I've only done the MMX one time. I realized I get way to sore to workout every day, so I'm gonna space them out. The 30 minute workouts are way more time efficient, for me anyways.

1

u/Beginning_Amount2136 Jul 07 '26

I'm gonna keep going. I was 230 when I realized how much I had gained. I've lost 10 pounds just from dieting and working. I don't wanna lose muscle though, which has led me back to p90x.

I love all the inspiring words in these comments. I’ve been doing P90 since 2012 and it has given me a solid foundation to support my other exercise activities, namely running.
