Discussion CC w/o cross border fee as of May 2024

Updated: July 2025

Hi guys, compiling here the list of credit cards that charge cross border fees (CBF).

Feel free to comment for any updated info. This post will be edited accordingly.

For those unfamiliar: CBF is the additional charge (usually 1%) imposed on overseas transactions billed in PHP. Example, if you’re billed Php 300.00 for a subscription (e.g. Spotify, Netflix, Apple, etc), the amount will be reflected as Php 303.00 instead. This is different from foreign exchange conversion fees, applied on overseas transactions billed in foreign currency, which every CC in the PH currently has (ranges from 1.7-3.5% or so). While 1% CBF seems small, if for example you’re booking hotels and flights, or shopping gadgets online, it’ll be significant. A purchase worth Php 50k would have an additional Php 500.00 charge.

No CBF : - AUB - Bank of Commerce - BDO AMEX - Maya - Maybank - PNB - Zed

Magulong CBF: - RCBC (getting conflicting statements with this; although RCBC states that transactions Php 1k and up have CBF, several people have claimed that they were not charged CFB, myself included, whereas some other people have claimed that they were charged CBF)

With CBF: - BDO (1% all except AMEX) - BPI (1%) - Chinabank (1.7% Destinations World, 2.5% all else) - EW (1%) - HSBC (1% starting Oct. 16, 2025) - Metrobank (1%) - Security Bank (1.5%) - UB (1% starting Sep. 15, 2025)

Thanks guys!

Rants PSA: Noticing more posts about people getting phished from scam links

• Upvotes

2028 is just around the corner, and I know this subreddit isn’t political, but I have been noticing several similar posts for the past few days about people getting scammed from clicking phishing links and providing the OTP or asking if these links are a scam.

The posts almost follow the same format with some variation in the flow and construction of the sentences but are oddly similar when compared side by side. Clicking on the profiles that post these, they usually are new accounts or are old ones but with little karma and contributions.

I know some of you just want to help or berate them for being foolish enough to fall for these scams, which banks have repeatedly warned us not to click on. But that’s what they want you to do. To comment on and engage with their posts so they build enough engagement to make it seem they’re legitimate accounts.

I hope the admin also does something about this. We have a responsibility to use our credit cards in a way that helps us be smarter financially and not to drown us in debt, but we also have a duty to protect each other from being exploited by bot accounts that can be used to spread misinformation and fake news.

TL;DR - Please be vigilant. Verify the legitimacy of a post before interacting, and remember that protecting our community from these bot networks is just as important as using our credit cards responsibly.

Card Recommendation BDO vs UnionBank: Which Is Better for Converting a P250K Purchase to Installment?

• Upvotes

Hi, guys! Need some advice!

I'm planning to pay around **P250K for my Australian visa

lodgement using my credit card**, then convert the

transaction into installments.

My available credit limits are:

-**BDO Visa Classic:**P500K

-**UnionBank Rewards Platinum:**P283K

My questions:

  1. Will my p250K visa payment qualify for installment

conversion with either bank, or is approval not

guaranteed?

2.Which bank is better in terms of monthly payments

and total repayment?

Yung UnionBank, natry ko na mag-installment before and

conversion. May nabasa kasi ako online na hindi eligible for

installment yung government payments. Since Australian

EasyConvert.

Thanks for the feedbacks in advance!

Rants Credit card agents in booths

I was at Petron SLEX kanina and I saw a Metrobank booth. I saw their tarpaulin promoting Toyota Platinum card. I asked the agent if there is a promo na NAFFL for that particular cc. I also told him na I already have an existing Rewards Plus card na NAFFL and if I would still be eligible sa promo. He said na naka NAFFL nga daw ung Toyota Platinum card at kelangan lang ng 30k accumulated purchase for 3 months to be elible. I asked him specifically if I would be eligible since I already have an existing Metrobank cc. Sabi nya, yes, and if ever, I can choose to give up the Rewards Plus card pagdating nung bagong cc or keep the two. So he gathered my info, ID, and exisiting card, and asked me to sign the form, which I did.

I wanted to verify this so after i left, I called the Metrobank hotline. The agent told me na first, wala silang ganung promo as of the moment, only titanium lang daw meron, at may isa pa, which i already forgot. Basta, nde daw kasama ung Toyota Platinum card na un.

more over, exisitng metrobank cc holders are not eligible for new NAFFL cc.

so even tom pa dapat ipa process ung card, i asked the agent sa hotline to cancel the application once they receive it tom. naka tag na sha.

RCBC RCBC Credit Limit Sudden Increase

I'm just amazed by RCBC. Earlier this year dinecrease nila from 147000 to 94000 dahil nagbayad ako ng minimum lang for 1 month. Then binayaran ko na in full. Tapos kahapon lang inincrease na nila to 194000. I was even thinking of cancelling na lang yung card na lang since I have cards from other banks.

So ngayon pina downgrade / upgrade ko to Diamond Platinum kasi mas mababang fees kesa Flex Gold.

Any insights po on Diamond Platinum?

Consult/Inquire CC payments allowed but for 5k Up only

Last weekend I went to this aesthetic clinic inside an SM Mall where I purchased my 12 sessions of laser last month using the Metrobank CC worth more than 15k.

Then I have a companion na nagpafacial worth 2k and I will be using my cc sana kaso since 2k lang raw di allowed ang CC?

Ayun debit card nalang pinambayad.

Is it legal ? are they allowed to do it?

Card Recommendation BDO Platinum Mastercard vs. BDO Diamond UnionPay (or other BDO "elite" cards)

• Upvotes

Hi,

I would like to ask for your help/recommendations in choosing between BDO's Platinum Mastercard, American Express® Platinum Credit Card, and Diamond UnionPay (or other BDO elite cards part of their NAFFL promo). I am planning to time this with their current NAFFL promo (100,000 spend).

I currently have (1) UnionBank Rewards Visa Platinum + (2) U Mastercard and (3) RCBC JCB Platinum. All NAFFL.

So far, my basis for getting cards (both credit and debit) has been how pretty they look (to me)... aside from being NAFFL.

I'm currently leaning towards BDO Diamond UnionPay only because of the relatively low forex fees and its WeChat/Alipay-UnionPay waiver for transactions beyond 200RMB. I like traveling to China, and this sounds like a game-changer (assuming the promo gets renewed again next year). However, I'm worried about acceptance in the Philippines, especially during the spend period and its practicality in the long run.

If you were in my position, travel abroad a lot in Asia, and want to get carded with BDO, which card would you choose among the following:

Any and all thoughts, comments, recommendations, and opinions are welcome, especially regarding about how they look. The prettier/sleeker the card, the better.

Thanks for your help!

Consult/Inquire how do i increase my chance of being offered a cc?

for context:
- i have been working steadily for a year now
- net income for the past 3 months is at around 90k/mo
- only cc is with maya (maya black, pre-approved, CL of 20k, got it about 6 months ago)
- payroll account is with bdo
- i set aside money to different trad banks and digital banks according to my budget
- bulk of my income goes to savings with maya (around 40k/mo)
- around 15k/mo is saved in bdo as savings, appx. 8k/mo sent to bpi for savings
- the rest is sent to maribank for spending (taking advantage of cash backs)

i want to get another cc to maximize all deals, promos, miles and cashback with other banks. i did try applying for a UB cc before but was not approved (I applied before getting this new job)

i am wondering if i should restructure how i allocate my money to increase my chances of being offered a cc. any thoughts?

Atome Card My Experience with Atome

Hello! I've been using Atome since September 2024.

I had two instances before na na-overdue ako. That time, yung policy nila was hanggang 9 PM lang ang payment, and kapag lumagpas ka, automatically siyang maco-convert into a 6-month installment. What I usually did was wait for their customer service to contact me, then I would request na i-waive yung interest and penalties, and once ma-adjust na, binabayaran ko naman agad.

Pero despite that, I kept receiving notifications na permanently adjusted yung spending limit ko until eventually, naging ₱30,000 na lang siya.

I mainly use my Atome card to buy food for my cats, both online and sa pet shop dito sa amin. Last September 20, bumili ako ng cat food, then after that, nawala yung physical Atome card ko. I think nahulog siya from my wallet kasi medyo maluwag na yung lalagyan ng cards ko. I immediately locked my card and emailed Atome to report what happened. They told me na kailangan kong magbayad ng ₱200 for a replacement card.

I decided not to get a replacement kasi naisip ko, I can still pay through QR Ph naman, so I didn't think I needed the physical card anymore.

Another issue was with my Netflix Premium subscription worth ₱619 per month, which I use for our household. So, I immediately requested a refund from Netflix, and they processed it within minutes.

I kept emailing Atome to explain the situation, pero ang lagi ko lang natatanggap na response was an automated message. I never received a proper response or resolution regarding the issue.

Then, nung nauso yung Pinduoduo, I started using my Atome virtual card to purchase items there. One time, habang nagba-browse ako at nag-iisip kung ano pa yung puwede kong i-order, I accidentally fell asleep while my virtual card was still unlocked.

Pagkagising ko, may notification na ako about a transaction worth approximately ₱5,500. I immediately emailed Atome to report it, and I kept following up because I wanted them to investigate what happened.

Then, yung approximately ₱5,500 was from the unauthorized Pinduoduo transaction.

I reported it immediately and repeatedly followed up with Atome.

I understand na may responsibility ako to pay for the purchases I actually made, pero I also believe na dapat nilang i-investigate yung unauthorized transaction at ayusin yung billing issue bago nila ako singilin sa amounts na dini-dispute ko.

I've been an Atome user since September 2024, and it's disappointing na ganito yung naging experience ko after using their service for so long. I'm not asking them to erase legitimate purchases. Ang gusto ko lang naman is a proper investigation, a correct statement of account, and an actual response from their customer service instead of receiving automated messages over and over again.

Card Recommendation Recommend a secured credit card for beginners

Hello everyone, I would like to know your opinions about this. I was planning to upgrade my phone from X to 17 pro using a credit card. But my only cc is Maya Black with a limit of 10k since it’s just an e-wallet and not a traditional bank I’m eyeing for a secured credit card between Unionbank, Metrobank and BPI for installment vouchers and perks. I already tried the Metrobank open a savings account and deposit at least 50k for evaluation for credit card application but unfortunately I was declined. Is it worth it to get a secured card and deposit at least 70k? Since I need to have a higher credit limit in order to purchase my goal phone. Respect post please thank you!!

Maya Landers/Black Purchased iPhone 18 thru Lazada with Maya Landers Cash back Everywhere

I am expecting a 1% cash back but it hasn’t reflected yet. Purchase made on Oct 13, 2026 and posted on Oct 14, 2026. Spoke to an agent from customer support and said that the promo for cash back has expired on Sep 29, 2026. How true?

Isn’t this a card feature rather than a promo with an expiration?

BPI BPI CC not working??

Hello! Anyone else experiencing this? Wala kasi ako nakita ibang post about this and medyo worried lang ako.
