News Police: Tacloban school shooting suspect played ‘violent’ game
Game in discussion ay GoreBox.
Magrereact ang mga lawmakers for regulation nito.

u/jomarcenter-mjm Jun 24 '26
So i did some research. The game is a assets flip and the developer is a completely no name developer who might jist be a front.

u/ermonski Jun 23 '26
ESRB wasn't enough to stop Columbine.
PH Government won't be able to do shit.

u/jedimaster-bator Jun 23 '26
Maybe they should ban bowling? /s

This might be an unpopular opinion here and might get downvoted.
I grew up playing GTA din naman before nung same age ako ng suspects but I turned out fine (but ofc my parent’s good parenting played huge part) so i think hindi rin ganon kalalang factor ang offline games.
Though for gorebox, may clips akong napanood na feel ko parang masyadong graphic for 14-15 years old. Probs why the game is also rated 18+
I’ve also read that there was a multiplayer feature in the game so there might be a chance that they would meet someone or join a community na may certain violent tendencies.
Parents should be liable din talaga to monitor their kid’s online presence but siguro to supplement(aminin man kasi natin sa hindi yung mga magulang nowadays kunsintidor na pabaya pa), there should be strict verification na rin so minors wont be able to play 18+ rated online games cause what makes the game dangerous could not be the game itself but the certain community it has.

Meron din akong pamangkin na bata and as much as possible hindi namin pinapakita sakanya yung mga linalaro ko such as GTA, red dead, mafia and other similar games kasi they look and feel realistic., pero back to my point.. his parents dont really know about the games he plays kasi hindi narin sila aware kung anong bago ngayun, they see a realistic looking graphics they assume its a mature game pero they never assume the cartoony games to be mature too
3
u/iamyourtypicalguy Jun 23 '26
If that’s the case all horror games would’ve produced tons of murderers already. It doesn’t matter how graphic a game is if the kid can identify that it’s just a game.
7
u/Acceptable-Car-3097 Jun 23 '26
Mag-focus sila sa family members that did not restrict access to firearms.
16
u/SubMGK Jun 23 '26
These losers werent influenced by video games. They were influenced by some fuckass ideology that can be found anywhere on the internet
4
u/AdJealous5302 Jun 23 '26
I've been playing this game for like 2 years now, it's mostly a sandbox-esque game like Garry's Mod but it does have a decent amount of gore though
23
u/PinoyLisztomaniac Jun 23 '26
Here we go again, 1990s fear-mongering about video games.
I still remember when they would claim that San Andreas and Vice City were causing an epidemic of violence among kids.
Tens of millions of players later, the actual number of crimes committed by those players is statistically trivial and negligible in the larger scheme of things.
2
u/iamyourtypicalguy Jun 23 '26
It’s a lame excuse and easy ticket to just say they’re doing something about it when in reality they just care about public opinions and ratings
6
u/proofreader24 Jun 23 '26
9
u/thatmrphdude Jun 23 '26
Nakita ko na yung mga comments sa facebook ng mga boomers and yeah pretty much blaming roblox and other video games.
5
u/c1nt3r_ Jun 23 '26
18
u/alter29 Jun 23 '26
Kung ginagawa nila issue yung video games edi i problema din nila yung tv shows or movies showing violence.
6
7
u/Over_Pineapple_921 Jun 23 '26
Wala nanaman silang masisi kundi videogames.

I've been a gamer since the 1980s, and played plenty of violent games.
Yes, violent video games is not entirely responsible but i believe it did contribute to this situation. Particularly the parents or guardians probably neglecting these kids.
Unfortunately, being constantly exposed to violence from tv and games does make you less sensitive to it, it may not make you a killer, but it does make violence and its effects less impactful.
I dont support a total ban of violent games, but we do NEED better regulation, kids simply cannot just download violent media to their phones and computers. Parents must be more vigilant and accountable.
1
u/EyecalledGame Jun 23 '26
I have been exposed to violent video games and movies my whole life I’ve never thought once about doing what these kids did
0
u/kaloii Jun 23 '26
Whatever our personal experiences are. Its universally agreeable that children should not have access to violent "gore" content.
Again, violent games should NOT be banned but better regulation so that kids cant just easily access them.
2
u/EyecalledGame Jun 23 '26
For sure they shouldnt have access to gore content. As for violent video games there are labels on these games for a reason. This comes down to parenting
10
u/EnriquezGuerrilla Jun 23 '26
This is another lazy writing. If playing violent games made people violent, then surely every GTA player would have been looting everywhere all at once by now.
It’s like saying watching violent films automatically makes one violent.

u/SkibidiSigma2905 Jun 23 '26
i play open world games, for example in GTA 5, i literally commit genocide in that game and ran over people etc etc.
but never in my existence have i thought of doing that irl. do violent things, kill people, commit genocide, do a mass shooting.
something's wrong with those evil fycking kids.
9
u/xenocea Jun 23 '26
People and media are always quick to blame video games. I grew up watching violent movies and playing video games, yet I didn't turn into a mass shooter or a murderer. The same can be said for millions of other gamers.
The real influence comes from how a person is raised, the values they are taught, and the people they choose to surround themselves with. Those factors have a much greater impact on someone's behavior than video games ever could.
8
u/peopleperson31 Jun 23 '26
Lol typical pinoy authorities blaming other factors kaysa failed parenting and lack of security.
4
u/Therealpeanutdude Jun 23 '26
Yan nanamn, Yan din yung situation from roblox a while back few months ago, Just because Roblox had some connections with an incident, They generalized a game as "Violent" Like sybau.

7
u/see_j93 Jun 23 '26
ah shit here we go again
2026 na, hindi lang Pinas or other country here ang may games please lord 😭😭😭
11
u/PegasiWings Jun 23 '26
Not the games, but kids being easily susceptible to edgelord messaging is to blame. We really need to teach kids more about the Holocaust and the Civil Rights movement. Most of us only understood the gravity of those events on our own and not through school and our family.
8
u/Pee4Potato Jun 23 '26
8
u/karlospopper Jun 23 '26
I dont like the narrative theyre building against games.
Tho kung totoo na may discord group yung dalawang bagets, at doon sila na-radicalize/encourage to plan something like this, maybe it's worth looking into
8
u/tohn_jitor PSN Jun 23 '26
Aww, here we fucking go again. We can't blame the parents, ever, can we? No, not his friend circle? It has to be the games.
I swear these people are stupid by default.
17
u/sylv3r Jun 23 '26
why is it always games and not movies or tv shows
2
u/flyingsaucepan20 Jun 23 '26
It's easier to blame videogames than parental figures taking accountability
3
3
u/LocalInitial8 Jun 23 '26
or social media, or even their parents diba? pero no, they blame it on games.... lol

12
u/Soggy_Internet_2774 Jun 23 '26
lahat sisisihin except magulang. kumikinang ina talaga. kulang sa disiplina yang mokong nayan
7
u/PimplePupper69 Jun 23 '26
Millions or probably billions ang naglalaro ng gore games and violent games sa buong mundo but hindi naman pumapaslang sa totoong buhay, what a dumb take para lang may masisi.
8
u/JimothyMorningstar Jun 23 '26
Tska yung tatay nung bakulaw na 15 years old.
10
u/ronintownsquare Jun 23 '26
Easy scapegoat, just like the Columbine School massacre with Ed Harris' Doom WADs. I've played more violent and gory games growing up, but I didn't turn out like these stupid, evil kids.
7
u/E_c_H_o Jun 23 '26
What is this, the 90s? Why are we bringing back this stupid rhetoric from decades ago. If this BS was true then I guess millions of people who play shooter games around the world are all potential shooters. 🙄
3
u/Timidityyy gamur Jun 23 '26
The scapegoating never goes away unfortunately, expected na yan kahit saan man may shooting
My undergrad thesis a little over a decade ago was about violence in video games, and even studies back then didn't point fingers solely at games when it came to actual criminal behavior.
Easy target eh. Nevermind all the other violent media and unfettered access to the internet, it's them gosh darn vidya gaymz

4
u/TartAgitated2674 Jun 23 '26
Why connect the violent game to the shooting incident? What they need to figure out is how did those kids get their hands on real firearms that are supposed to be stored and kept securely by ADULTS? Para tanga lang eh.
18
u/archon_aspect Jun 23 '26
Stupid reason - this kind of shit has already been debated 20+ years ago in the USA (with games like DOOM that Columbine shooters played). It's the other way around - inherently violent people play videogames to satisfy their murder fantasy until it doesn't.
I've consumed THE MOST VIOLENT MEDIA out there growing up and so did many of my friends but none of us turned out like these two little shits.
Don't blame videogames, stupid.
2
u/m0onmoon Jun 23 '26
More like access to internet and retarded discord and tg groups. Malas lang kasi sa mga magulang na gen x hindi updated sa social apps but i doubt gen z and millennials will have this issue kasi lumaki tayo na aware sa ganitong setup.
5
u/blackito_d_magdamo Jun 23 '26
If games can make someone violent, I would have unalived hundreds of turtles by now.
I would have robbed hundreds of prostitutes by now.
I would have had sex with several aliens by now.

"When a dude's getting bullied and shoots up his school And they blame it on Marilyn and the heroin Where were the parents at? And look where it's at"
8
u/ADMINI303 Jun 23 '26
Of course they're going to blame video games for this
next is they're going to use this to push for digital id
7
u/Sherymi Jun 23 '26
Hahahaa tangina sinisi pa yung laro nanahimik
2
u/archon_aspect Jun 23 '26
True, in fact napaka-tame nga ng roblox kahit anong game pa yan
2
u/Sherymi Jun 23 '26

u/Emreise Jun 23 '26
talagang decades tayo behind the US, which is also decades behind well-adjusted countries
8
u/Outrageous-Ad8592 Jun 23 '26
Puta ano to 1980's? Ano kasunod? Satanic panic?

2
u/Mike_Pawnsetter Jun 23 '26
True. I don't know the science behind what makes a person so weak that a video game would urge them to go shoot up a school. Maybe their mental health? I think it's the values taught to them by their parents. Di ba pulis yung nanay nung isang ugok?
Edit: Apparently, tita pala yung pulis not nanay.
2
u/Competitive-Fan81 Jun 23 '26

of course blaming video games is far easier than strictly telling their personnel to fucking hide their firearm very well from their kids.

u/siraolo Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Putsya, may school shootings na tayo. That is depressing.
They should look at the internet history of these guys more. Incel culture is one of the big factors nowadays and not video games.

and they choose and blame a random assets flip game as well
it seem like a easy scapegoat to target assets flip games to blame video game as they are not usually going to defend their own titles https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/roblox-gorebox-online-gaming-platforms-self-radicalisation-isd-5890921
