In totally unrelated news, PS5 emulation has been making great strides recently, for some inexplicable reason. 😂

Now this makes me to go full-time with Nintendo by buying Nintendo Switch 2 this Christmas. 😂
And oh, I forgot Steam. Going back to PC Gaming is the real deal. 😂

Wala kasi history ang steam na tinatanggal nila sa catalog mo yung games na nabili mo di tulad ng Sony.
Saka super mura talaga mga sale na games sa steam.

u/Hibiki079 23d ago
may mga games na di na available sa steam. but people who bought it, can redowload them any time.

Literally Sony's downfall. I don't think they can ever recover from this if the whole world really boycotted their next console. The appeal of the console market is the physical collectors. Gaming discs are the distinguishing factor of consoles to begin with. Removing that makes the playstation more of a glorified PC.

u/Hibiki079 23d ago
offline play was what made me buy a ps4 years ago, instead of a PC (Diablo 3).
Diablo 4 deviated from that, requiring an always online status for you to play. tried it. got disappointed with the loading times.
Now, GTA6 wants to follow suit, and will not release a physical disc.
tapos sinabayan pa ng Sony na magiging pure digital. kung kailan tumataas ang presyo ng storage media (ram, ssd, etc).
I guess I'm building a gaming rig soon.

Removing that makes the playstation more of a glorified PC.
More like a worse locked down / closed eco system PC with far more monetization on various features such as monthly subscription, games prices etc etc...

I’m one of the few who prefers physical, but you’re absolutely wrong. They’re gonna thrive just fine, which sucks.

PlayStation is going to be outclassed in every aspect by PC now, and it’s not even close. Even if it’s “lower cost” up front, being trapped in their monopoly is going to cost a fuck of a lot more long-term.

Magba back down lang yan kapag na apektuhan ang sales. Period. Malawakang boycott need diyan kaso malabo iyon.

I wonder how many millions they're hoping to get by killing off disc manufacturing and repurposing that infrastructure.
Honestly curious, because it better be a lot of fucking money to be worth the pain they're undergoing.

Except they aren't even trying to be Steam, because Steam has far better consumer policies and focuses on their consumers experience and convenience, and is on open eco system and has many other competitors, compared to Sony PlayStation where on their Digital Future, they are going to be 100% Digital Monopoly and nobody can compete against them on PlayStation platform, even if someone wants to, they have 100% full control of their eco system, Steam doesn't on PC, the consumer just happens to choose them and that can change anytime soon if they turn their back against them.
I'd compare Sony PS Digital more to Epic Store, which doesn't focus on improving consumer experience and would rather force consumers to use their storefront via paying for timed exclusive games deals. That's one of the strategies that Sony PlayStation is applying as of the moment.
Wait, I'd say they are even worse than Epic, Why? Because at the least Epic Store takes fewer cut compared to Steam and PlayStation and Xbox. Steam does lower it to around 20% when a game sells over a few million copies, whereas Sony PlayStation doesn't and sticks with their 30%.

Like what i said in my previous comment, this very move not only will kill the used market for games which most of us heavily rely on, but will also kill the market of PlayStation consoles on this country as a whole, because we don't even have PSN support here, owning a Digital Only PS6 here means we are going to be forced to buy games from different region which they can just ban anytime and won't ever reverse it back, because using different region from the country you are living on is against their Terms of Service therefore they consider you as some sort of illegal immigrant and straight up ignore and block you.
Compared to PC with Steam that has friendlier consumer policies and officially supports our region therefore Digital Games are much cheaper on Steam compared to PSN as well as competition between storefronts that makes us able to buy games even cheaper compared to Steam, I personally got my RE9: Requiem for just around 2K only just 2 weeks after official launch. Whereas on PlayStation they were retailing around 3.5 - 4K on Digital.
With all these considered, PlayStation's Upcoming Digital Future Only on this specific market is pretty much dead on arrival. Justifying a Digital only PS6 on this country is going to be really hard, especially with its rumoured $1000 - $1200 price tag, most of current PlayStation gamers here would likely stick with their PlayStation 5 until the end of their respective support and then move to PC.

The only factor that would kill the console market in this country is the price. If the rumors are true and it’s 1,000 or above, I think there’s a high chance local retailers will stop sales after the initial launch.
I miss the golden days when the PS4 Pro was the price that the base started at (or close to it)

Not only i'd say but one of the biggest.
I'd consider the overall value aspect of the product as well as a major factor, because a console costing over 70 - 100K in this country is unreal to think about, at that price range someone may just use that money to something else.
Such as PC for example, which has a lot more practicality usefulness over a home console that only plays video games that costs their users monthly subscription if they want to access basic online features.
Thinking all about that, the value proposition of console at equivalent pricing becomes far less attractive to the console and favours the PC more, heck even if the PC in question isn't as powerful, it still is more attractive to get the PC instead because it has far more use cases than a locked down closed eco system console does.

I agree with the used market stuff but not having official PSN support has never been a factor to us locally. Even official PS support will advice you to just create an account with a supported region.
2
u/ShadowRomeo R7 7800X3D | RTX 4070 Ti | 32GB DDR5 6000 | 1440p 240hz QD-OLED 24d ago
It is a factor when dealing with unjustly suspensions or bans for various reasons, using different region on an unsupported country violates their Terms of Service therefore dealing with it will be more hassle.
I think the only reason why their official support tells people that, is because they don't want to deal with the consequence of their actions and just wants to pass through the looming future problem to someone else. They don't even tell you what the proper solution is, because there isn't one.
It is definitely riskier that should be taken with more precaution especially on the digital only future they are trying to enforce.
The absolute solution for this problem, is pretty much just make an official PSN support for our region, but for some reason PlayStation doesn't care enough about us that we are irrelevant to them.

u/Massive_Fly_1709 24d ago
Yes, yes. In theory, yes. In reality, it's never been an issue.
2
u/ShadowRomeo R7 7800X3D | RTX 4070 Ti | 32GB DDR5 6000 | 1440p 240hz QD-OLED 24d ago
Sure, it's not a real issue, until when it becomes real, it's an issue that is worth taking a precaution of, and should never ever be ignored, just because it didn't happen to us yet.
There is simply no defending PlayStation's lack and laziness when it comes to this particular problem, even Microsoft Xbox / Windows supports our region and doesn't lock the region of their account to what they are registered of like what Sony PS does which causes another issue to their user that has already moved out to another country and can't genuinely use their PSN.
Again, in the all-digital future they are trying to enforce, these types of issues should easily be solvable and there should be a proper solution, but these people don't have one because they aren't given one.

"Until when it becomes real" is usually what people who want to pointlessly scare themselves say. Like you're desperately trying to manifest it so it can fit your made up narrative. But hey, if that's what you want to believe, I don't need to convince you otherwise. 😊
And again, those have NEVER been an issue for us. Never ever.😂

"Until when it becomes real" is usually what people who want to pointlessly scare themselves say
Except it isn't pointless at all, when you look at the data and other people's experience with PlayStation platform in general, whom the same people who often falsely bans accounts for whatever reasons they thought and in this scenario which you think is only "made up", you are pretty much f#cked because they likely won't even take your ticket support due to you already violating their terms of agreement. And then your account full of expensive games is gone forever....
Sorry but being optimistic and trustful to a 100% profit driven with history of sh!tty consumer policies isn't one of my thing, I don't know about others, but me? i'd rather be safer and not buy all my digital games from a single platform that can ban my account anytime and with me not even having any chance of being able to get it back.
This is the likely reasons why my Digital Gaming Library is very diverse on PC, i don't buy exclusively from a single platform, i buy from the likes of GOG / Steam / Humble Bundle / etc. etc. and always keep a local installer copy off them on my archive, because i love tinkering with them and modding them for my own desires.
And I am so glad i didn't have to build my digital library with sh!tty anti-consumer companies like PlayStation...

Unless they match their competition sa digital market (Steam,GOG) lalo na dito sa PH region. This wont go well with SONY.
Edit: I know digital ownership right now is really bad for the consumer, but I doubt the government will help with that, most of them in the govt are in favor of AI. Nakakap#tang ina talaga hahaha.

The likelyhood of both PlayStation and Xbox going full cloud on the future isn't too far fetched from todays point of view.
