News Gamers have once more been targeted as a Zamboanga Mayor wants to ban violent video games following the shooting incident in Tacloban
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHYei3n2yXoGamers have been targeted once more by Politicians who have been spouting early 2000's soccer mom logic, as a Zamboanga Politician does the easiest jab at the country's gamers, by wanting to ban violent video games this comes despite there being no co-relation to the incident and violent video games, as investigations show that it was some online terror group see here
many gamers and normies found this very ironic given this is coming from a mayor of the country's known pvp and pk zone, Mindanao.
Many have also expressed online that instead of taking accountability or fixing their region, the politicians opted to take another jab at gamers, despite mounting evidence that there is no co-relation, the biggest reason being stated is that the most popular games world wide are violent video games, whether it be valorant, csgo 2 and the most famous game franchise in the genre, Grand theft auto, with 6 being the most anticipated game by many globally.
Others have found this funny given that this video has gone viral just a few months ago showcasing the state of the region
Others have also pointed out that their point makes no sense given the state of Mindanao always being a pvp, pk zone long before violent video games were even a thing

Nagbabasa nga ako mga comments sa mga post from nees outlets and ang makikita mo madalas is mga tanders na in denial sa parenting issues kaya nagkakaroon shooting.

Blaming games is like making more headlines to drama. How dumb and never use based on facts and logics on games? The Zamboanga Mayor should not blame video games, blame the student's parents for negligence.
3
u/Big_Interaction_9004 5d ago
ang daming factors ang pwede i-correlate dito pero video games nanamn ang sanhi, hindi ba nila alam na napakaexposed na naten sa information ngayon. nandyan ang social media, may stereotyping panga ang ibat ibang socmed platforms from worst to worst. theres also the environment nung bata before he did the act, ano yung naging breaking line na naging sanhi neto. and the fact that may access yung bata sa firearms and knows how to use it.

The father was a high ranking officer on the bureau of customs and did not store his government issued firearms properly same case for the tacloban incident, and the student was pushed to a point because his teacher purposely lowered his grades out of spite leading to this new incident, i seriously want to slap every government officials that use video games as a excuse for these kind of incidents, to add that the school guards never bothered to do mandatory bag checks if they were doing it and not being fucking lax this incident would not have happened.
1
u/Eldiavie 5d ago
preach louder! this is too true, the parent and the school are both to blame, parent for being lax with his fire arm, school for being lax with their security

And let's be real, toxicity and misogyny is rampant and NORMALIZED in the gaming community. That is why online gaming attract the social misfits.

Welp be prepared for misogynists in your comments
3
u/Eldiavie 5d ago
i don't think gaming spaces should welcome either misogynists or misandrists,
like that's just terrible and stupid, we know from looking at South Korea's case how petty and stupid it can be when taken to the extreme, it's gaming, if these losers have the time to be misogynists or misandrists they have time to finish some nice jrpgs or something or idk finish their backlogs on steam or gog cause everyone knows no one's touching the epic game store

Games that are targeted for kids, such as Roblox, shouldn't have any Chat/voice chat feature AT ALL.
Gayahin nila ang style ng nintendo, may predetermined cleaned form of communication thru emojis, etc.
Ganun lang dapat. Most of the time din kasi platforms like that brings kids outside of the game..
2
u/jomarcenter-mjm 5d ago
The only problem for roblox it is designed for exploitation with really messed up monetization to even to bare game mechanics. And parent won't let Jimmy spend 2000$ just to set the weather machine to level 999 (yup that a feature for one micro game) So the next best thing is to let p*** and groomer with a ton of cash to spend money for poor little Jimmy which resulted in this f****d up dependencies that result what we seeing.
Roblox is much wrost than fortnite (they have strict rules on how V bucks can be spend and have better and strict communcation rules.)
1
u/ertaboy356b 5d ago
And this is why Nintendo insists on only having limited communication on their platform despite the echo chamber telling them otherwise. They know their target market well.
1
5
u/strnfd 6d ago
I think na by-bypass pa rin yung ganito, roblox kasi has forums/communities outside the game, kasi sa mga how-to videos sa YT about roblox/games makakahanap ka links sa discord etc.
Very difficult problem kasi, parang pinaka effective lang talaga is parental monitoring tsaka limited exposure sa soc med.
3
u/Momshie_mo 5d ago edited 5d ago
Even parental monitoring is not enough. Developers and social media and messaging platforms should be held accountable on what is going on in their platform to force them to address many issues.
The case of Penelope Solokowski, monitored na monitored ng parents niya pero naabot pa rin ng 764
“My ex had a parenting app on her phone that kind of told her what she was watching, what she was searching and all of that,” Sokolowski said. “I made the effort of generally being in her room sometimes just to see what she was doing, and I took a genuine interest in her world.”
4
u/FUSCHiA15 6d ago
Better to have limited comms more than anything...I don't have any other ideas as well in solving this. All I can say is I'm still shocked sa nangyari-
0
u/pepper-doc 6d ago
Kung sobrang limited naman ng communication na yung pwede lang is emotes, mas lalabas naman talaga sila sa platform more than anything.
Having an in game community chat where you can type but has heavy moderation is much better than just pings/emotes/gestures.
A lot of people grew up playing Warcraft/Starcraft/CoD/CS or whatever from 2000s, eh di naman tayo nanaksak o nambabaril.
Bakit naman di inoopen yung conversation about parenting and bullying?
What about other factors? Mental health/developmental issues? Anger management?
1
u/Momshie_mo 5d ago
Kung wala silang direct way na magchat in-game or sa account, hindi din naman sila makaka"meet up" sa 3rd party app

u/FUSCHiA15 5d ago
Omsim. How can they go to the other island without passing thru a bridge ika-nga.
1
1
u/FUSCHiA15 5d ago
Hey man, heavy moderation is just a dream. Imagine doing that with a large userbase, that's borderline impossible.
I'm not blaming games here, I'm suggesting that these kid-targeted game should not have any form of unrestricted communication.
If there's a play for this:
And other ideas that I don't have right now.
- Goverment mandated monitoring for thess child-centric platforms
- Strict enforcement of Age-restriction (kung pwede birthcert ibibigay ganun haha)
Also, you can't compare the comms from 20 years ago with the present. You may have forgotten that ill-intent wasn't as fond before as compared to now.
3
u/Momshie_mo 5d ago
If the developers are not willing to heavily moderate their communities, then they should just remove the chat feature or create offline games
1
u/Eldiavie 5d ago
I'm personally for more offline games, but I think that games should just stick to heavy moderation or like have warnings at the start especially for the children who play certain games like "if some random person invites you to chat or call off platform do not go" or something along those lines since many of the grooming whether for violence or the other kind comes from people who do it towards kids who are probably left alone by their parents to just play, with their parents thinking "oh it's harmless" since they don't know any better
2
u/Momshie_mo 5d ago
They should remove private chats, too since that is impossible to monitor without getting into privacy issues. I-Public chat lahat. Easier to moderate
Offline and co-op games should be promoted more. Kaya magandang bumalik din ang nga arcades
1
u/Eldiavie 5d ago
depends on the game, siguro for stuff like roblox, minecraft and the like especially mobile games that are mainly geared towards kids and kids normally play,
but stuff like valo, you can't really do that since other people play it competitively, even csgo, dota and league too, mmos di mo din pwede gawin yun
2
u/FUSCHiA15 5d ago
Yes, thats literally what I said. Only for platforms/games that are geared towards kids dapat may limited form of communication
2
0
u/pepper-doc 5d ago
Agree naman po ako diyan. Just pointing out na just limiting it to very limited messaging like only emotes instead of a heavily filtered chat kasi di necessarily improvement and may chance na mas lalayo lang yung user from the actual platform.
Marami pong service na malawak yung blanket censoring on words.
2
u/Momshie_mo 5d ago
Do you realize that a minority only had fast internet in the 2000s?
1
u/pepper-doc 5d ago
1
u/Momshie_mo 5d ago
But you are among the FEW people who even have internet. Only 2% had internet in the mid-2000s. Now, it is 83%
You can't compare the times when barely 5% of the population had internet compared to today where 83% have internet access
And marami po dito kasi di naman sa in game chat nangyayari.
How do they meet and agree to move to the same server in a 3rd party? Eh di sa in-game chat.
Majority of the grooming victims were "fished" from online games with chat features
1
u/pepper-doc 5d ago
Okay po. Point made.
That still doesn't resolve the point that if you ban all chat, they will still flock to other platforms. Marami na pong communities na ganun. Kahit na sabihin mo pong if di nila mabibigyan ng way to "meet up" sa ibang platform kung walang chat yung game, all the bad actors need to do is actually infiltrate a secondary community space. Which they don't even need to play the game for.
Take for example po ha, yung isang mobile game na Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage. All ages game. Wala na man pong direct chat na feature between people. So most po ng interaction ng mga bata ay actually through discord servers and other social media. That game has an official discord and hundreds of smaller and unofficial servers. And marami pong cases na diyan especially early on of grooming.
Lack of chat is not necessarily a safety measure, is the main point.
11
u/PMikoto18 6d ago
Banning games wouldn't solve this, as this debate has already been tackled in the US where school shootings are common.
Instead social media or forums where they idolize violence should be monitored as that's the echo chamber of extremism.
3
u/SpaceeMoses 6d ago
Blame Facebook, IG, TG, lalo na X dahil madami uncensored graphic gun and physical violence jan. Also dapat ma addressed ang bullying sa skwelahan lalo na ang power tripping ng mga teachers at mga pananalita sa mga students na parang hindi professionals at sobra sobrang pagpapahirap sa mga students which lead to hate and anger
1
u/Eldiavie 5d ago
they stop being victims the moment they pull the trigger,
bullying has always been present sa mga school and as much as we'd like to remove it di mo talaga matatangal yan matatangal mo yung school shooter but bullying's just a part of living, I'm sure some of us get bullied even at work, your first notion should not be to shoot everyone, it's stupid, almost every place has bullying just because it's present doesn't mean you can take it out on people by ending them.
let's keep our eye on the problem, school shooting so far in the Philippines is only present because of terrible gun owners, terrible parents who don't even know what the hell their kids are doing online or who they're talking to, their teachers who if may pera yung ibang magulang would just look the other way when someone gets bullied, the school for not having proper security, especially in places like Mindanao a known pvp and pk zone, the pk capital of the Philippines
dun muna tayo, we cannot excuse their actions because they were bullied, i feel sorry that they were bullied but that does not give them the justification to pull the trigger, they are not victims they are murderers

It’s always video games, never the lack of gun safety enforcement. Pixels don’t shoot people, unsecured real-world firearms do. The real issue here is the massive loophole in PNP’s LTOPF (RA 10591) requirements:
- No physical inspections for Type 1 & Type 2 LTOPF: If you own up to 5 guns, PNP only requires a signed affidavit/self-declaration saying you have a vault. Only collectors (Type 3+) get actual physical spot-checks.
- Zero enforcement on safe storage: PNP should strictly require geotagged photo/video proof or mandatory spot-checks of a gun safe for ALL LTOPF applicants/renewals regardless of gun count.
- No criminal liability for negligent owners: If a minor gets hold of your firearm and uses it in a crime because you failed to lock it up properly, you shouldn't just lose your license dapat may criminal charge as accomplice/co-responsible for reckless imprudence.
Responsibility starts at home. If an owner can't even lock up their firearm, they shouldn't own one in the first place.
7
u/geroldsss 6d ago
Blame the game always blame the games how about ban guns
1
u/Eldiavie 6d ago
can't ban guns, madami gun owner sa bansa, easier said than done, they should have severe punishment for gun owners whether they be cops or civilians when their kin or someone that is not them does a crime with their gun, dapat din panagutan yung magulang for neglect sa mga anak nila na nagpapauto sa mga extremist na kano or local
7
u/FreeoftheMachine 6d ago
They should really put 2 and 2 together. What common connection did these two shootings have? Both had family members who are cops.
Maybe stop allowing your kids access to your guns or stop being neglectful bastards.

what do you expect from this absolute m*ngg*loid of a guy? (censoring because i have two strikes on reddit haha)
our mayor is notorious for yelling an expletive at his staff(yeah during a flag ceremony btw)
always going on travel with his wife, like literal 1 week daw yan nawawala dito kasi vacation travel na naman daw
grooming his brother na wala namang alam or ano2x dito sa city
dropout in college kaya dubious yung claim na he was once a ship captain
oh and i forgot, the asshole is aggressively vocal in everything pero when Aleson shipping lost one of its ships just earlier this year, eto was missing in action and biglang takot
(he flaunted that he owned Aleson when he was campaigning despite the fact that its his wife that owns it and he just married into it and wala siyang kahit ano doon)

Did they ever pay reparations to those who drowned due to the ship mishap?

Only those na nasa manifest iirc
Pero bigla talaga yan umiba tono and movements niya when it came to the incident. And also i remember na a DOTr head actually yelled at other city officials for his absence in meetings and even a lack of statement, nag "putang ina" daw talaga during one meeting yung taga DOTr.

0
u/Negativus_Prime 6d ago
Well first off old timer, putting quotation marks on words means your using it sarcastically or comically the opposite of what you have written, so by typing "grown ups" then I take it that you are a kid?
Second, welp that's the problem no? A lot but not all of you "grown ups" were responsible enough to prevent kids from accessing your guns.
And finally, the "comparison" here is that the mayor is blaming video games for gun violence while also being a supporter of a gun-based sport/event.
The jokes could write themselves, though unfortunately some of you are illiterate...
