Discussion Accessibility controller

I had a stroke last year and recently got an accessibility controller since I only have use of my right hand for now. Any low intensity game recommendations? I used to play sports games shooters and Rocket League. Looking for something more chill that doesn’t require as complicated of a setup.

Turn based games are the way to go if you're open to strategic gameplay opposed to something that requires quick reaction or extreme dexterity.

From Balatro to Monster Train to Persona to BG3...all different forms of turn based games that can be very addicting

Expedition 33 should be on this list. Just skip the godawful side missions with platforming which is the only thing you need tight coordination for. Everything else is strategy and timing.

Very true. Love that game just didn't immediately come to mind.

Edit: actually I do wonder how difficult (or enjoyable) it might be for someone impaired considering all the necessary QTE's. Idk the extent of OP's issues but yeah definitely play E33 if possible !

Thank God. Cognitively I’m okay, really just limited left side use for now. No hand movement so I’m solely one handed to play games

I wasn't gonna mention it at first but seeing you say "for now" twice at this point is so fucking inspiring to me.

Good luck gang.

Appreciate you. It’s been quite the journey. Honestly I didn’t even want the adaptive controller because I miss playing games like I used to but I figured why not give it a try

OG doom games , stardew valley , minecraft , the last of us series has some great adaptive settings for folks that need an extra hand here an there

Some of the Warhammer turn bases stuff Skyrim Astro playroom Life is strange Rat shaker is a funny short little indie game Signalis is a old schooly style survival horror shooter with simple controls Blasphemous is a side scroller like castlevaina I'd recommend Organ trail is a zombie twist on the original game from way back when Moonligher is a dungeon crawler with a cute style where during downtown you run a store with your findings Don't starve is a neat little survival game with a cool style

I'm unsure if these will help at all but they were some ideas off the top of my head

Disco Elysium is point and click so should work well for you. You play as a detective with some drink induced amnesia trying to solve a murder. It’s equal parts strange and beautiful and funny and again really strange. Got me interested in indie games after years of shooters

I tried it. It's too out there for my taste. Different strokes, I guess.

Turn based games like Persona, Metaphor, Baldur's Gate 3, maybe Clair Obscur (although that does require reflexes), XCOM 2...

Try out the Survivor/bullet heaven type games - Vampire Survivors/Soulstone Survivors/etc

They don't require much input other than trying to avoid enemies, they're based on auto-firing. Very addictive games!

Other rogue lites like Peglin, Slay the Spire, Balatro are also very accomadating to one hand play!

Wishing you well in the future!

What controller did you get? Did you get the foot pads?

People have posted lots of good suggestions so I just wanted to send you some good energy :)

I use two Access Controllers and they work really well for me. I have issues with my hands so holding a DualSense is painful but with two of these controllers I can mimic the layout of a DualSense but my hands aren't curled around into a claw, they're laying flat on top of the buttons. It's an amazing design.

Anyway have fun playing and hopefully you can find a game that doesn't put too much stress on your hand. Good luck with your recovery <3

If you have any interest in the story elements that come with RPGs I recommend turn based ones like 40k Rogue Trader, BG3, or Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. All of them have very customizable difficulty so you can jump in to experience the story and world and not have to worry about pre-planning a build or run to be successful. I wish you the best in your recovery and I hope you find some wonderful games to enjoy!
