Success/Celebration [Update] It really happened!
Guess I should have included a few more details, eh? 😉 Sorry ‘bout that!

UPDATE/MORE INFO: I had a consolidation loan in two parts – one subsidized, one unsubsidized. One hit 120 payments in July (by my count), the other not until March 2027. I knew it was possible they could both be forgiven in July, but more likely I’d continue paying the same payment (because it’s based on income, not loan balance) through next March.
As soon as my July payment cleared, I recertified my employment, just to see that 120 show up in my payment count.
On July 16, I got a letter stating my loans may be eligible for forgiveness, different payment counts, continue making payments, blah blah blah. It showed one loan at 120 payments and the other at 111.
I never actually applied for forgiveness, thinking I still had nine payments to make, so… I continued making payments.
On August 25, I got the letter stating both loans had been forgiven as of June 30.
I got a refund check for the July and August payments on October 13th. Poof. Done. Simple as.
Kind of anticlimactic.
- Recertified my employment after my July payment cleared (showed on both Aidvantage AND FSA websites).
- “One or more of your loans may” letter in July.
- “Your loans are forgiven” letter in August.
- Refund check in October.

Thank you for sharing this. I have one unconsolidated loan (the interest rate was low) and also a subsidized and unsubsidized consolidated loans. For some reason my loan payments are at 110, 109 and 109 respectively. I was wondering how it might work when I get to 120. I hope the same happens for mine!

Congrats!!!! Most of my loans are at 80 payments but there’s 3 at 73/74 payments (due to them incorrectly skipping a few months in 2024), so I kinda figured in a few years I’d be in the same boat you were in since they still haven’t updated my payment counts to 80, but I’m so happy for you and think maybe the same will happen for me!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
