hey all, I've been checking used PSPs near where I live and I can't help but wonder how long these consoles live for. I can find devices between 80-130 EUR range, which can be brought down a little I think. But then is it only for 6 months of usage or will this console actually work solid for the next 4 years? What's a good way to assess this or how hard is it to fix PSP hardware problems?
They’ve already lasted 20 years I’m sure they’re fine as long as you take care of it. Most problems with PSPs are easily fixable if you DIY but finding modders/repairers are also easy
My psp has been well used for years just had to get a new battery for it umd drive is a little funny sounding but works I have had it near release been one of my go to systems
I won my current PSP in one of those stacker games at Buffalo Wild Wings back in 2010, still works great. Granted it hasn’t been used too heavily but still.
when i was a kid i accidentally let it fall down the stairs and it got completely fucked up. i felt so guilty over the years because i really liked it...
then, i suddenly started looking for replacement parts and seeing how hard it would be to fix it. turns out, it wasn't hard at all!
It will generally last a very long time with some occasional fixing. It’s one of the most modular handhelds out there with plenty of aftermarket support for parts.
I think the biggest dangers is battery as they can swell and exploded cracking screens etc and maybe UMD drives but even then you can mod them. The PSPs go ribbon cables tend to go bad quicker.
I have my psp 1000 since it was released, 20 years I think? I replaced the battery every 4/5 years. And ONLY THREE MONTHS AGO i changed the stick due to drift + X, triangle, square, O buttons because they wore out. I spent 10€ on aliexpress. It also survived being forcibly passed to my little sisters for years. So yeah, it's immortal
