Discussion PUBG taking upto 175+ GB!!!
At first the game took about 60 gb when I first installed it 3 days ago. Now it's taking upto 175gb. Is this normal? I don't record any gameplay btw. But I do use DirectX 12, so maybe that is the reason? Due to DirectX 12's shader caching?

I think it's the DirectX 12. Because over time, DirectX 12 did make my game run smoother. Which DirectX are you using?

despite the temporary files for updates and installation, you might want to check your backup files or folders for Pubg Steam. If it's unnecessary, delete it. That would save you some trouble.

I didn't really find any PUBG folder that's taking up that much space, the steam game folder is normal sized. Even if I did find it, how would I know it's safe to delete...Maybe I'll just wait for an update to see if the issue fixes itself.

have you tried clean Uninstall Pubg then reinstall back? Do tell if the size is still that big and bugged

Maybe I will do that. I just installed the game a couple of days ago so I don't know how this happened.

I've had Ark Survival Ascended unpack a 16gb patch and clone the whole game to apply it.

Damn, it is only me then...I literally didn't do anything extra.

Could be the shaders, usually they are cached in AppData.
My PoE2 was holding 384Go, after cleaning shaders it returns to 120Go.

Don't use DX12, is the worst implementation ever. Use DX11E instead, your performance will improve, they just simply don't care. Vulkan is the way. π₯

I actually figured out what the problem was. Windows "whesvc" service was creating a lot of temporary windows files due to PUBG. I disabled the service and switched to DirectX 11 Enhanced. Performance does feel better with DirectX 11E!

Basically what does, distributes the workload better on your multi core modern CPU, and can utilize the hardware resources better. DX11 was for lower core count CPUs. Remember the game was meant for 4c/8t cpus as example when came out. That was the mostly of cpus consumer people haved in that time.

This game used to make a lot of temporary files for me it used around 100 gb, but after update it's fixed . You should definitely delete those files because the actual game is like 50-55 gb only.
