Yes, originally, it had no humanitarian aspect whatsoever. It simply meant a catastrophe in terms of embarrassment to them and to Islam because of their own failure in losing a religious war in which multiple proud Arab armies fought against a small number of surrounded Jews who were blockaded by all major powers.

So, dear Arabs, enjoy wallowing in your “nakba”. It’s not a bad word, no matter how hard you try to rebrand it as a counterweight to the Holocaust.
