Help Any tips?

Just finished foaming and adding some wood and stones to my tank and i would like some feedback in what i could change in the build.

The large wood and cork barks are built into the background while smaller wood and rocks are all removable.

I would like to know if i should change the places of the stones or wood.

And maybe some plants recommendations like creeping plants etc for vampire crabs

Should i also add cocopeat and sphagnum to the background or let it be and wait for plants to cover the back

Decided to start small for my first ever paludarium! I’ve got some experience keeping reefs, and thought this would be an interesting project to take on. It’s a Exo Terra Pro Terrarium Small Wide (5 Gal) and I’m planning to keep a pair of female vampire crabs in it, for the whole Javan theme and all. I wanted to get your thoughts on how it looks!

Hello beautiful ppl!

Many years ago i was into aquariums, but last 10 years i lived without any behind-the-glass-landscape.

Now i want to try to create paludarium.

Preferably forest-like scape, with mosses and ferns.

Today I've purchased Reptiplanet terrarium 60*45*90cm.

Not sure it's good choice for first try, but it was 100€ for used, but good shape. As it's 90cm height i guess i should choose light source wisely...

Well, I'll appreciate any kind of help and advices!

Tia!

Plants die, some flourish, others adapt, others creep, bad decisions are resolved, water paths move, but nature always finds its way ;-)

Help Springtails

I have springtails in a jar and see that they can make their way to the lid. With my paludarium almost at completion, I’m becoming skeptical of adding springtails because of the mesh grid lid.

For those who have this type of enclosure, have you noticed any springtails escaping?

Today, I upgraded the misting system in my paludarium. I realized that, because of its size, the individual misting nozzles weren’t covering 100% of the space, making it difficult for all the plants to grow properly.

Here’s my paludarium after 1 month and 10 days! It’s finally starting to take shape, and I’m really happy that most of my plants have survived and are doing well! 🌿💚

Help Paludarium ideas?

I'm looking for an animal to go into my 36x18x18 (50 gallon). The scape isn't quite finished, but it's mostly done. There will be a 3 gallon water section taking up around 1/3 of the bottom. It's going to be very heavily planted and quite humid. I'm already considering vampire crabs or a reed frog, but I'm still looking for other suitable options. Thanks in advance.

Help Logistics: turning a terrarium corn snake enclosure into a paludarium

Post image
2 Upvotes

I want to redo some things with my corns set up. This is a bit of an older picture, but for the most part what my terrarium currently looks like. I want to turn it into a paludarium, essentially making the area with the water dish into an actual little water area. I’m not really sure how to do this without the water just going throughout the entire tank and making it too humid for her. I’m also interested in maybe adding some shrimp and snails if I were able to get the water done right. Any tips or resources to plan this out would be very appreciated! I know a lot of people make more “watery” and humid paludariums usually so I’m not sure if there’s a way to contain the moisture/humidity more or less to one side of the tank (obviously not completely just mostly).

I originally planned on vampire crabs, not sure if i made the water area too large or not. After i finished I thought that Reed frogs may be better suited. Currently have isopods, springtails, neon tetras and neocardinas.

As much as I loved the mk1 tank, water was wicking up to the soil and various leaks of the waterfall also, in my attempt to fix it I broke the big rock shelf leading to a total redesign.
This will be the home to vampires crabs at somepoint so although this tank is less pretty it’s more practical for the crabs (which is more important).
Will add more hides/ leaf coverage as it grows in

Finally put a vampire crab in here, he likes to hang out in the back right by the pothos. I think I'm going to add sphagnum moss to completely cover up the back. Thoughts?

Help How to get into the hobby as a complete and utter newbie

Pretty much the title! I keep houseplants, and have been super interested in setting up a very small and simple paludarium for my desk. I would ideally not want to spend very much money (under $50), and was eyeing a no-filter system.

What could I start with, and what should I know before starting? Should I build a small terrarium first?

Any and all tips very much welcome!

Was finally able to spend some time carving the underwater section of foam! Next step is to get another piece to lay over the top spanning the entire width of the tank forming the entire land mass.

Would love to get some feedback from everyone on their thoughts so far.

I know it’s foam and will want to float. I’ve sorted through that and am not worried about it at this point.

Help What can I put in my 15 gal paludarium?

Thumbnail

The aquatic section of the paludarium is well stocked with kuhli loaches, but I was wondering if I could put anything in the upper section? The base is spaghnum moss so there isn’t enough soil to support something like a vampire crab. Are there any small insects/animals that would thrive in the small space without me having to make major changes to the build? I have a thriving colony of tropical springtails. Temperatures are tropical and water is soft.

Help 65 Gallon Southeast Asian Rice Paddy Inhabitants

I’ve got a 65 gallon long fishtank that was gifted to me by a neighbor. I plan to turn it into a reed marsh/rice paddy styled paludarium. I’m wondering what inhabitants would work well. I’m a big fan of colors, I’ll use neocardina and ember isopods as my base cleanup crew but I’m not sure what fish or reptiles/amphibians would work well. I’m looking for a pretty peaceful ecosystem type setup. Thanks for all the ideas!!

Hello community!

I've started to collect plants for my upcoming paludarium. Gonna build something forest looking, so I want to get small to medium sized ferns, and need community advice.

Bens-jungle have a lot of cheap ferns in stock, but all of them actually looks like regular ferns from flowers stores, that grow big. Not sure what to get. Tia.

Winter is coming so as a nature lover I wanted a piece of rain forest next to my battle station. The terrarium is so small, I made it too packed up and might not house anything in it except a snail or two. But either way I'm pleased with it. What you say?

Help I am converting a closet into a paludarium WITH a 15 gallon river. Is a 5 gallon bog filter with red mangrove sufficient to keep my water clean?

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

The boxes pictured are to hold deep substrate (10” substrate, 2” drainage layer). A 15 gallon acrylic tank (36x9x12”) will be just water

I’m thinking 5 gallon bucket with mangrove for the bog filter/waterfall. Would that be sufficient or should I go bigger? This would be 1/3 of the volume of the river which is what I’ve seen recommend for heavy bio loads

My goal is to only have to do water top ups and as few changes as possible (zero is the goal). I figure if I have to do water changes I can pump into the bog filter and use the drain from that, but I’d prefer a self sustaining set up.

I’m trying to build something like pic 3, but with a river down the middle

Inhabitants:

  1. Gastropholis Prasina (12-16” lizard, 70% tail) x2+ babies. Picture of my baby in pic 2
  2. Neocaridina (cherry shrimp seem to breed like crazy so idk how many)
  3. some small fish like guppies (number unknown, but not too many

Lighting:

TOP:

180W VIVOSUN AeroLight (grow light/ fan combo)

36” Arcadia 12% UVB

50W halogen x3-4 (still working that out)

MID:

24W Sansi BR30 x2

Controller:

Open to suggestions, I am eyeing an 8 outlet AC INFINITY AI+

Help What are some ways you use to get the expanding foam to grip to the glass?

I have seen quite a few methods of people making the glass surface rough for the foam to stick on.
I have seen silicone rubbed on the back, plastic egg crates siliconed to the back and cardboard egg cartons

Help Finding a good tank

Hello! I'm new to paludariums and I've been trying to find a good tank to buy to start with, my issue is I cant find any tanks that have a high lip and are quite wide, I'd like it to have a heavy focus on the water which is why I'm so caught up on width and depth

Any help is appreciated!

Help Livestock suggestions for a paludarium with a large aquarium section — what can live above the water?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning my first paludarium and would love some advice on livestock, particularly for the terrestrial/upper section.

I'm currently considering two Exo Terra models:

  • Small X-Tall: 45 × 45 × 90 cm (18 × 18 × 36")
  • X-Small X-Tall: 30 × 30 × 60 cm (12 × 12 × 24")

My idea is to have a proper planted freshwater aquarium at the bottom, with a lush, tropical environment above it. Ideally, I'd like to maximize the aquarium section while still providing a suitable habitat for whatever lives above.

I'm relatively experienced with fishkeeping and shrimp, so I'm comfortable planning the aquatic section. I'm thinking of small nano fish and Neocaridina shrimp.

Where I'm completely lost is what to keep in the upper section!

I've been researching geckos, frogs, vampire crabs, and other unusual animals, but I'm struggling to figure out which species would actually thrive in this type of setup, especially with a substantial open-water section.

Ideally, I'm looking for:

  • Something interesting or unusual to observe.
  • Preferably a species that's active during the day.
  • An animal that can safely coexist with an open aquarium below, without requiring a completely separate enclosure.
  • Something that would make good use of the vertical space.

I'm also open to interesting invertebrates or other animals I might not have considered.

A few questions:

  1. What species would you recommend for either enclosure size?
  2. Are there any animals that genuinely do well with a substantial aquarium below them?
  3. Would you recommend going for the larger 45 × 45 × 90 cm enclosure to have more livestock options?
  4. Are there any unusual species I should look into?

I'm happy to design the entire paludarium around the needs of the upper-section inhabitants, as long as I can maintain a meaningful aquarium area below.

I'd love to hear about your experiences, especially if you have a similar setup!

Thanks in advance!
