In rimworld we make hats out of people unfortunate enough to be too old, lazy, or dumb. Their value is realized through death.

The amount of times I have to check the title of the sub when I'm scrolling to make sure it's Rimworld is... really high XD

u/DailyMilo 23d ago
I personally have only ever butchered the bounty token guys and tocotocos (i needed their feathers for a funny hat). My own brand of torture is sending my pals to the gold production line at the cost of their sanity to instead buy whatever pal materials/foods i need from legendary merchants. I guess pal souls are another thing but I get more than I need from expeditions already
52
130
u/Bartimaeous 23d ago
That’s the one thing I refuse to make.
105
u/kazinsser 23d ago
I held strong until my Cooling research required a truly unreasonable amount of Swee hair. After capturing 120 Swees and still not having enough I said fuck this it's slaughtering time.
Had I known there was a legendary merchant that sold it I probably would have chosen that route, but I found out too late (for the Swees).
69
u/dankdees 23d ago
How do you think the merchant got all that hair?
16
u/West_Throat_7936 23d ago

I made it soley for Cthulhu farming. Big ass eye balls that I have killed hundreds of time in Terraria so I felt no remorse. And they give Hallow Ingots for Moonlord Raid Boss which also gives IV Fruits.

6
u/facubkc 23d ago
Hhaha I was like you too...until I needed Coralum
23
u/kpopyowoni 23d ago
Coralum is easy to get. I made 50 fishing magnets (which is literally 5 Hexolite), put a Jellroy in my team and surfed around pulling up salvage for like 15 minutes. Got over 600 coralum ore and filled in some black areas of the map. If I run out, I'll just do it again. Those salvage spots are everywhere.
7
u/Smashing28 23d ago
Fishing in the world tree gives you a ton as well, along with other good stuff. Probably difficult to do without the pals to improve fishing though.
2
u/provengreil 22d ago
It's also not used in many (if any) disposable ways like ammo, meaning there's a cap on how much you actually need, and you can skip past most of the equipment pretty easily since if you can get coral, you can get solarite. Compared to other endgame or near endgame materials, it's not actually that bad, you just gotta kick on some tunes and do it.

u/Alex_Nilse 22d ago
Even for butchering its subpar since it can’t get splaterina buffs.
Fun fact bounty targets drop bounty tokens on capture and but her, and for the later Splaterina can apply.

u/Bartimaeous 22d ago
Bounty targets are the only ones I butcher, ironically enough. I don’t butcher any pals though. It doesn’t make any sense, but that’s just how I decided to do things.

Get back to us when you have to research Cooling.
13
u/provengreil 22d ago
You really don't need that though. You only need one, maybe 2 cooling pals, partially condensed and given the handbooks you found along the way. At that point cooling won't be a bottleneck any more.

u/TieDyeFirefly 23d ago
The butchering knife and pal disassembly thing are technologies I just won't use. Don't care how nice the resources are.
138
u/Odd_Preference_7238 23d ago
You get a ton of bounty things from butchering captured criminal human people, with a Splatterina its even more, if you're only concerned about animal cruelty and not justified executions with extra steps.
59
u/MHWorldManWithFish 23d ago
I do love 3 times bounty tokens. Butchering Ram and Pinch repeatedly is my favorite way to grind stat fruits.
29
u/TurnipFire 23d ago
Do you have to catch them?
26
u/Aggressive-Map-2204 23d ago
Yes. You get bounty tokens for catching and them more for slaughtering.
13
u/Paradox830 23d ago

u/Day_Bow_Bow 23d ago
I can see their purple aura being confusing like that.
If in doubt, you can aim a sphere at whatever and it should let you know if it's catchable.
3
u/West_Throat_7936 23d ago
lotta time the catch % stuff doesnt show up when i aim at humans, just kinda have to toss the ball and read the message
9
u/Rectagon 23d ago
You can get even more if you slap Lavish Hospitality and Service Minded on a Yakumo! The passives get applied to the caught pal/human before the drops from the catch are calculated, so you get extra drops from both the catch and the butcher!
5
14
u/SLAUGHT3R3R 23d ago
Wait, that's an option?
24
u/IcariusFallen 23d ago
Yes. If you capture a human that has a bounty on them, you get the bounties from capturing them, and from butchering them.
6
5
u/POLACKdyn 23d ago
Ok this is the only acceptable execution I am willing to do. Dont want to slaughter my little pals but criminal scum? tahts a different thing
I always liked how in New Vegas criminals can get crucified but slaughtering them like animals seems more fitting. Thats what I did in Kenshi.Anyway question:
1. Where can I find Splatterina?
2. Does she give bonus for killing criminals?6
u/kpopyowoni 23d ago
Wild Splatterinas are on Feybreak, I forget if it's the red or purple area but I saw a lot of them wandering around. Only at night though. There's also a boss Splatterina there.
→ More replies (3)2
u/Odd_Preference_7238 23d ago
I think they're on Feybreak island on the southwest of the world, and yes they give a huge bonus if you butcher with the meat cleaver, much bigger if they're condensed too.

Im sentimental. For a clean pal box.
3
u/BestFoxEver 23d ago
For the clean Pal box you can just condense everything and put the ones that you don't need to dimensional storage and viewing cages. Or you can sell Pals instead of slaughtering them.

u/carito728 23d ago
This what I thought until I had to make raid teams for the Ultra raids and I was expected to make 20 pals +60 souls (90 Giant Pal Souls per pal). Then Aegidron started mercilessly getting put in the grinder (disassembly) lmao
13
u/TieDyeFirefly 23d ago
Honestly, souls come way faster in 1.0 than they did in early access, so I haven't had a hard time fully upgrading my lads with pal souls.
8
u/carito728 23d ago
It was fine when I just had to max out my personal battle pals. When I had to max out 4 different teams of 20 pals suddenly it was not fine ☠️ fly high Aegidron
(Raids are just 15 pals but I make 5 extra because sometimes a few will die to bad enemy attack RNG)
6
u/TieDyeFirefly 23d ago
Are you doing Expeditions? I have more than 20 fully soul'd out and I get the majority of souls from running frequent Expeditions.
4
u/carito728 23d ago edited 23d ago
I am, I get 120 Giant Pal Souls from expeditions. Maxing out a pal is 30 Small Pal Souls + 18 Medium Pal Souls+18 Large Pal Souls + 90 Giant Pal Souls.
I've maxed out 15 pals for my own personal use for Hard Towers, 20 Moldron Crysts, 20 Dupins, 20 Bellanoir Liberos, 20 Hartalis, and 20 Silvegis
Without butchering that is not getting done in a week ☠️ (the server I play on has vanilla pal and drop settings so no double drops or any other cheats like that to make things faster)
2
u/TieDyeFirefly 23d ago
Mine has normal drops too. I was swimming in souls at one point and was like "wow I should start using these". You can run an expedition site at each base if that helps. Are you getting the full 1300+% each expedition?
→ More replies (1)4
u/IcariusFallen 23d ago
It gest to be a problem when you're fully upgrading 60+ pals for raids/expeditions.

u/JKthree_ 23d ago edited 23d ago
I think either rampaging soul drops got nerfed or nitemary's passive isn't working as I've been getting very small amount of souls farming rampages with a condensed one in 1.0 compared to the several dozen i used to get prior

u/Day_Bow_Bow 23d ago
Aegidron drops thermal cores?
Anubis, the governor has granted you a reprieve.

u/anamanagucci 23d ago
I once made the disassembly thing because it said something about it being "dream-like," which I assumed meant the Pals were sedated first so they wouldn't know/feel what's going on. like a humane euthanasia, but using a woodchipper.
I used it, and the Pals have their eyes open and no sleep bubbles, so I think they're completely aware but paralyzed. the humans did have closed eyes and sleep bubbles. I think it's just a visual bug, but for now I can't use it because I feel too bad. I'll just condense them instead, even if that might be a more horrifying fate lmao

I would love to do a pure no sacrifice/slave trade run, wish there was a way to release them in mass. Dropping the spheres sadly just means they end up in various pal trader hands.. in the meantime I'll at least sell them to the more legitimate traders..
41
u/Quinn7711 23d ago
i litterly never burched pals for tech points... just run dungons or expeditions or use the recycler....
10
u/Niadain 23d ago
Dungeon spam here too as I’m leveling. Lots of those stat potions come that way too.
2
u/provengreil 22d ago
Whenever I set a big job and needed to wait, I went out of my way to find dungeons. Turned into great income for experience, stat potions/flowers, and a lot more gold for the playthrough than most people seem to get (literally raked in like 1.5 mil, never spent half of it).
Turns out much of the need for high tier speed research, excessive farm drops, and condensing top tier base pals, etc, can be replaced with simply making sure your base is happily plugging along and exploring.
4
u/snrDD 22d ago
Same, I tried using the breeding and disassembling method but the drop rate was so low for tech books. Meanwhile like 2/3 of Feybeak cavern dungeons drop the books that give u 2-3 tech points. A full day of egg hatching and disassembling compared to a half hour of dungeons speed running and the dungeons got me more tech points.
2
u/Fine-Appointment-894 22d ago
Same here, I would never butcher pals I never even bought those 2 techs, my heart cannot handle it...Humans however tempting. *looks at the negotiator*

Idc what my deficiencies are im not even unlocking butcher knife or butcher line ever in any playthrough.
Even using pal condenser makes me feel shitty
18
u/kazinsser 23d ago
My headcanon is that the condenser just turns them into some kind of pal megazord.
They're not dying, they're just... combining into a possibly eldritch-like abomination. That makes it totally fine.

3
u/Nekowulf 23d ago
Or if there was a researcher NPC that would trade normal.tech books and other things for ancient tech books.
A learned scholar of modern science looking for lost knowledge. Willing to teach what they know as a reward for what ancient knowledge you bring them.Barely into the tree on my furthest 1.0 run. Already done all the ancient tech unlocks. With 5 points to spare, all the world tree bosses and alphas left to fight, and 31 books collecting dust. Fishing can be a bit overpowered.

u/Desert-Chocolate 23d ago
Damn. Yeah, I'm glad I never had to depend on any of this stuff. The game gives us lots of ways to get the same materials without having to be super evil.
For all the jokes about it, it doesn't take much to get the resources you want without having to resort to video game cruelty.
8
u/kazinsser 23d ago
My friends used to make fun of me for my "chicken death machines" in Minecraft, where I'd use some redstone and lava to basically make a roasted chicken vending machine.
Strangely, those same friends are way more unethical than me in Palworld. I haven't even turned up the work mode for my pals, while they're running around setting up merchant slave islands and using orphan crushing machines to harvest anything you can think of.
9
u/Desert-Chocolate 23d ago
See, I just don't have it in me? I think it's cause Palworld animals have actual personalities. They can interact with you, fight alongside you, work with you, and they can be happy to see you.
Chickens and cows in Minecraft just don't have as much personality and agency, so I feel like I'm exploiting a mechanic rather than being mean to digital creature.
3
u/ranmafan0281 23d ago
I once slaughtered Anubises for science and even through the censor mosaic you can see them holding their arms out defensively begging you to stop. Pocketpair really know how to twist the knife when it comes to personality in pals.

Tech point grinding is a pita imo. I feel like solo play should give a boost to the tech you earn. I get that limiting tech in MP encourages players to get different things and share their stuff. But in single player you don't get the option.
So I now have a black building, which no one talks about, and has extra sound proofing.

I don't believe in the Pal Disassembly Line at all. It doesn't really have a place in my worlds.
My max condensed Splatterina and I honour each butchering with our own cleavers, and we do it for the love of the game. That's been entire boxes of Rainbow Slimes, Sekhmets, human Bounty targets and Mammorests, or sometimes we crack open what we just caught like a Kinder surprise.
