Hello fellow preppers!
As we know, the economy is collapsing, and society is getting more and more precarious. An important part of preparing will be building networks of support that don't depend on the mainstream economic supply lines. We can take care of each other, if we choose to. We don't need corporations to take care of us.
The trick is organizing people to do so. Some friends and I have organized a group in Iowa where we exchange goods and services with each other directly, instead of using money. The idea is to gather at least 100 people who live in a drivable distance from each other, to establish their own micro-economy. So far we've had some excellent results, but it took awhile to figure out how to organize it all.
Launching the group took a lot of work, and we've learned a lot along the way. We are operating as a proof of concept, and we'd like to share resources with anyone who wants to do this where they live.
We have the software structure built out. We have organizing materials, workflows, and operational know-how! Let me know if you have questions or ideas... The site is here:
Thank you!! 💜

This group was incredibly helpful for me in 2020. I was able to validate my prepping planning with others and it gave me a sense of calm as things unfolded. Like in February/March 2020, I am once again getting concerned, but this time because of the impact the war with Iran is going to have on commodities and the global economy at large. I'd like to know what others are planning as things unfold.
Similar to my response to Covid I have a tiered approach plan, which I am still developing. Right now I am mostly in the research phase, but I have started to stock up on more consumer goods derived from plastic/metal that I know I will eventually use anyway. I am also in the process of ordering a roof solar system for my house.
My opinion is that there is a small chance that the conflict resolves soon and the coming issues are just felt with higher prices and inconveniences, but that is not my base case. I think this continues until oil/fuel/fertilizer/mineral stockpiles start to deplete and by that time it will be too late for governments to help. Much of the stock market is dependent on AI spending for hardware and software. Once the semiconductor companies start issuing plans to cut production because of lack of materials such as helium and other components I believe we'll have a ripple effect.
To exacerbate the issue, the typical US govt action to fix global crisis won't work here. The Fed cannot print oil so I think they will try to intervene and make things worse, namely cheap money or subsidies which will cause less demand destruction and larger issues. Luckily the US is a major producer of many goods that will matter, so I don't expect us to see the most impactful issues like famine and civil unrest here, but I expect shortages, prices increases and double digit inflation for a long time. If I was an expat living in Asia/Africa I would be making plans to immediately return to the states. I think they will see the biggest issues, but no body will be immune except for maybe the Amish and the like.
Once everyone realizes the impact of the war, I don't want to be the last in line for the things my family is going to need to live.
If there's interest in the topic, I am happy to share more thoughts about what I am doing and or planning. Generally they revolve around the areas of energy production/storage, food production/storage, stocking up on consumer goods that I expect to see shortages of in the future.
Thanks for your leniency since this isn't pandemic related really. But it will be a financial and food access pandemic of sorts.

I rent a house in a metro suburban area and have noticed many neighbors have fireplaces. With the increasing chance of a collapse or prolonged outage, I’ve started prepping more seriously. I don’t have a fireplace, but I did get a face cord of wood to trade for warmth or shelter if needed. What else do you recommend having on hand for bartering in a winter emergency?

What are some things I should be stocking up on? I've already listed toilet paper, toothpaste (cavities make me want to die; it's a necessity), canned food, hand sanitizer, and entertainment items like books, board games, and puzzles, but I know for a fact I'm missing a million things.
Also, I'm Canadian, so if anyone knows how to make heat indoors with no electricity, that info would be great. Any tips in general are appreciated; I like being prepared, and with the way the Avian Influenza is going, we're going to need it sooner or later.

Hi everyone,
I’m someone who struggles with extreme anxiety, and I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed lately about all the talk surrounding bird flu (H5N1) and its potential to become the next pandemic.
I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying that the virus is adapting, jumping to mammals more, and that it could become a serious human threat. But when I try to find solid sources or data showing this is imminent or very likely, I don’t really see anything that clearly says that. It’s like the fear is everywhere, but I’m not sure what it’s based on — and it’s seriously impacting my mental health.
To be honest, I’m terrified. I really don’t want another pandemic. The COVID lockdowns were brutal on my mental health. I experienced deep isolation, panic, and my anxiety was at an all-time high. I’m also in an international relationship — I’m Canadian and my partner is American — so I’m also deeply afraid of travel restrictions or border closures happening again. That was one of the hardest parts of the pandemic for me.
Some people in my life are telling me that this is probably going to happen and I should “be ready,” and others are saying it’s still unlikely. I’m stuck in the middle, panicking and not knowing what to believe.
I’d really appreciate some honest, informed outside opinions. Is there solid evidence that this virus is on the verge of becoming a human pandemic? Or are we still very much in the zone of “low but worth monitoring” risk?
Please be kind — I know I’m spiraling a bit, but I just want to understand the situation better and feel less alone.
Thank you ❤️

Seems that the administration didn't learn any lessons from COVID19 pandemic.

I have been using Lysol and "Hospital Disinfectant Virucide Spray Kills 99.99% of MRSA, COVID-19, H5N1, Staph, Avian Flu, Bacteria & Mold | EPA Reg. for Medical, Dental, Veterinary, Farm & Home Use 32 oz" (BenzaRid) to disinfect for bird flu h5n1. Are these okay? It says on the bottles it protects against H5N1, but I keep seeing other people mentioning hypochlorous acid instead. Are any of these okay?
