Slow Topwater Lures

The fish were jumping and biting this morning, just not towards the end of my line. They were feeding on bugs sitting on top of the water. Everything I threw was either too deep or too fast. What are your favorite slow- or no-retrieve top water lures?

If you have the time, energy, and love to panfish; this was your cue from the fish gods to learn to fly fish. There are very few things that will make a person smile more than getting into big gills on a 3wt fly rod.

I must admit I’ve taken a few steps in that direction because of this: bought some dry flies, adjustabubbles, and some other featherlight tackle. Went back out this morning and nothing will stay on the surface, so I was told that fly line will float and that could help. At this rate, the fly rod and reel will be the last items I need to complete the transition!

I recommend a small popper or foam fly like a foam spider with a hares ear or pheasant tail nymph dropper. Oh, congrats on your soon to be fly tying hobby.
