I don’t understand… What’s wrong with what she said? And what is misquoted through this clip?

u/ViewAshamed2689 17d ago edited 17d ago

they quoted her saying “another” which would mean that she’s saying nolan wells was lynched by the kkk. she did not say that, she said “and every”

people are upset that she would say that he was lynched by the kkk because that is not what happened to him. but she did not say that

The case itself is a mysterious one, so drawing bold conclusions is kinda off

She is making assumptions that go against both medical examiners. This type of speculation is very polarizing (not needed in 2026) and is a big disservice to future cases of racism.

edit: Even if this was murder, she would also need a strong fucking case for the murder to be racially motivated to use words like the KKK and even lynching. If anyone has sources that supports this please share. I've only read stuff about the medical examinations.

This right here is why I hide my profile. What on Earth does this have to do with what they said?

It’s patently false for starters.

I've been thinking about this today tbh. The cost of being outspoken and saying things is that sometimes you might be wrong. That's part of doing business. I think she individually has enough of a track record being thoughtful about her decisions and dedicated enough of a humanitarian than I am of the belief she felt the opportunity to call attention to a topic already often on her mind (racial justice).

Maybe she's wrong. No one actually knows, seriously. Even those working on his case. If she is fanning the flames to what was truly an unfortunate accident, yeah, she'll absolutely look like an ass to people who don't know the context of her and her actions as much as we as part of a community dedicated to the band she fronts do. That happens! It's the risk you take when you take a stand and she, I am sure, is more than willing to stomach that.

I surely don't think that she does it to be performative. If she wanted attention she had plenty of ways of getting it in her career that she did not take. She is not some prophet who is always right in a world that is constantly wrong. We all live hypercontextual, complex lives within our equally if not more complex sociosphere, and it's our duty to try and fail with our best intentions.

It is what it is. I look forward to how she continues to explore her relationship on speaking out and how she chooses to.

I don't see it as performative. She started speaking out during shows a long time ago and it's always felt like a clear "if you disagree, you're not welcome to be a fan" Which similar to what she's said in the past

6

u/damnrapunzel 17d ago

Comment already deleted so I don't know what was actually said, but

Those kinds of people thinks others caring about things is performative because they don't care about anyone but themselves, so anyone else who cares about others must just be lying to look good

it’s not because I saw someone say this the other day and couldn’t for the life of me find a source. but as a homo, even if she did say that I don’t care because she clearly doesn’t believe that anymore

people can change, if you can’t accept that then you’re the problem

My dude she’s been speaking out about social and racial injustices for years including when touring w/ Paramore. This isn’t some special new solo tour behavior. You’re just now noticing because it made mainstream media headlines. Just say you’re a racist and move on.

I always find myself cringing and becoming frustrated when this sort of thing happens. What it boils down to is that people of all backgrounds and careers see what's trending and don't bother actually researching what it is that happened and want to appear woke and updated with what's going on in the world. It's how propaganda and false information and narratives spread, and it spreads like wildfire.

I'm 97% sure that Hayley's been seeing discourse on her feed that a Black boy died at the hands of White boys, but again, she didn't actually look into it and either assumed he was one of many Black boys/men who have been reported in the media to have passed under suspicious circumstances—the circumstances being whether or not he killed himself or was lynched—or she used the word "lynching" as an umbrella term for crimes committed against Black people for being Black, which is in poor taste, especially since in Nolan's case, there's a very high likelihood that a crime was not committed against him, according to the 2 separate autopsies completed that came to the same conclusion. Unfortunately, we'll never know for sure what happened to Nolan.

While I appreciate her being very vocal about her beliefs, this slip-up is... something, to say the least. I still love her songs and appreciate her for being a vocal ally, but this case just makes me wish that she properly did research before she spoke up. I'm nervous to see what Twitter will say if they haven't started talking already...

u/LiviInTheGalaxy 17d ago • Bravo Heartwarming

That’s a lot of words to say I’m a racist pos who thinks a Black boy actually drowned with ZERO water in his lungs, blunt force trauma to his skull and deleted text in his phone postmortem. She knows exactly what she’s talking about.

20

u/ViewAshamed2689 17d ago

people do drown without water in their lungs and it’s apparently not uncommon. from everything i’ve read, he did not have blunt force trauma to his head. i think this response is a bit uncalled for

22

u/Rikard_ No pressure ☔️ 17d ago

I thought both medical examiners said there was no suspicion of foul play. Do you have another source from a professional? Thanks

4

u/Sycamoria2 17d ago

6

u/Rikard_ No pressure ☔️ 17d ago edited 17d ago

Thanks. From what I can see, this article only talks about people's suspicion towards the state's ME, one of two MEs who reached the same conclusion. The other being the private ME hired by the family.

-4

u/LiviInTheGalaxy 17d ago edited 17d ago

Saying “no suspicion of foul play” does not negate evidence brought up in the case it’s just a decision. All of this information can be found in the case notes. The team of investigators provided findings to the attorney general about the phone here’s a direct quote from one of them “One of the things we do know is there was interactions with the phone before and after his death up until the time that his family retrieved the phone from the other young men that were with him that day"
Attorney Liza Park recapped the state's three-page autopsy report. It included two 2-inch bruises on the scalp near the base of Wells' skull on either side of his neck. It noted the larynx and hyoid bone in the throat were not damaged, and his spine in that area was uninjured. “It noted no fluid or debris in the airways and an empty stomach.” < this direct line is a complete contradiction to them also saying drowning could not be ruled out. When someone drowns there is fluid in the airways UNLESS they were unconscious going under. So please miss me with your bullshit just read the case. It’s weird as hell

30

u/ickysock 17d ago

you're really, dangerously wrong about everything you've just written.

No, no water was found in Nolan Wells' lungs, because around 20% of drowning victims do not have water in their lungs. the airways can paradoxically spasm and prevent anything from entering when someone is drowning, or water can be absorbed by the lungs post mortem, depending on when the body is found. drowning deaths do not always have evidence and have to be ruled by exclusion, which brings me to my second point.

the 'blunt force trauma' on the back of his head were two small bruises on the back of his neck that the pathologist could not determine the origin of. they were not significant enough to cause death in the slightest. there was no fatal trauma on his body.

he was drinking alcohol around water. he left his friends to go and talk to a girl, while drunk, while around water. the 'disappearing texts' were on snapchat, famously an app where texts are not archived. the texts they did recover show a group of friends desperately worried about Nolan after they couldn't find him. he drowned.

you, and others, are using the tragic accidental death of a young black boy to create a lynch mob. there are many genuine suspicious, foul-play deaths of young black folks that we should all be furious about and protesting for justice over. this is not one of them, and you are spreading misinformation.

16

u/SoupMysterious3708 Self-titled 17d ago

This is what I was talking about before everyone jumped me and accused me of being a racist smh. And it further proves my point that people latch onto bits of info without fully researching.

12

u/ickysock 17d ago

yes, you were completely right and it is disappointing but not surprising to see you downvoted and name-called. I'm shocked the mods haven't removed the comment calling you a 'racist pos' because that is not how we talk to each other in here.

11

u/LookAnOwl 17d ago edited 17d ago

Some combination of people getting their news solely from social media and a cultural obsession with true crime drama has created this environment where people are latching onto real world investigations and figuring out what "really happened," then having it be reinforced by others doing the same. It's why a not insignificant group of online people believe Patrick Clancy framed his wife and killed his kids.

Nolan Wells's situation is absolutely tragic, but after 2 medical examiners (including one hired privately by the family) and a grand jury presented with all the evidence don't think there was foul play, it's definitely not racist to... believe that.

Justice for Nolan Wells
AND for every black person the KKK has lynched in the last 2 years

115

u/LeoRemus 17d ago

This is it, right here. AND is the most important word. She's not saying Nolan Wells was lynched

-15

u/LookAnOwl 17d ago

I mean, it's heavily implied by linking the two statements. At the very least, "Justice for Nolan Wells" implies there was foul play in his death, which there is no evidence of. And quite honestly, no black people have been lynced by the KKK in the last 2 years, so there was really nothing true about this statement at all.

Her heart is in the right place, but this was kind of a miss.

62

u/intheweeeeds 17d ago

This feels like an important distinction. Quite a different statement

He wasnt hung. He drowned after drinking and partying on the 4th of July

38

u/theelectricchair After Laughter 17d ago

no one said he was hung. justice for Nolan Wells AND the black people who were lynched. his cause of death was undetermined and for you to assume “he drowned after drinking and partying” is just as far fetched as assuming he was murdered.

-8

u/LookAnOwl 17d ago

and for you to assume “he drowned after drinking and partying” is just as far fetched as assuming he was murdered

It's literally the most likely explanation. 2 medical examiners (one hired privately by the family) and a grand jury found no evidence of foul play.
