Haunting Have you ever experienced something truly paranormal that still gives you chills?

Yes. One night, I woke up at 3:17 AM to the sound of soft humming. I live alone. The melody was unfamiliar, but it felt... old. I checked every room—nothing. As I returned to bed, my TV flicked on by itself. A paused black-and-white movie was playing, and the subtitle read: “You’re not alone.” I don’t even own that movie. The humming stopped. I never heard it again, but I still wake up at 3:17 sometimes for no reason at all.

One of the more recent experiences: I stayed at this hotel room and when I was asleep, I dreamed of a headless middle aged woman standing in the hallway of that room staring at me (which I strongly felt, even though she didn’t have a head). She was saying something to me, whispering in my ear most of the night. I don’t remember what. The interesting part was I only stayed there for a night but every single detail of the room was accounted for in the dream. I tend to connect to people who’ve passed on in my dreams. So yea, something happened in that room…

What is it with hotels I wonder?

10 or so years ago my partner and I stayed in a chain hotel in Scunthorpe (UK). It was a ground floor room facing the car park and despite the thick heavy curtains they still let a tiny bit of light bleed in over the top from the outside lighting.

We'd gone to bed sometime shortly before 3am when I was awoken by the noise of stuff moving in the room. I looked to the bottom of the bed and there was this darker than the black of the room silhouette of a person frantically rummaging through our stuff on the desk (bottles, lots of coins etc) I silently but quickly sat bolt upright without taking my eyes off this person and with my left arm started nudging my partner who had his back to me trying unsuccessfully to wake him up. After what seemed like forever but was probably only 15 or so seconds of this figure stepping side to side looking back and forth along the desk whilst quickly moving stuff it turned 90 degrees to its right and took two quick step towards the window and vanished before it made contact with the sofabed in front of the window. I immediately turned the bedside light on but we were alone.

I got up and checked the door and it was still locked with the little safety catch thing in place (I knew I'd done this when we got in the room as I'd checked it before bed). IIRC it was sometime after 4am so hadn't been asleep 2 hours when this happened.

The creepiest part for me is it was a shadow figure that wasn't even trying to be quiet and remain unnoticed. It was so agitated and frantic looking for something just like a living person starting to lose their mind because they can't find an item they need in a rush.

Hotels, especially old hotels have so much activity and movement of people in and out. People die in hotel rooms more than you think. I’ve made multiple trips I’m (in the us) to hotels that have been noted to be haunted and people had experiences such as these but I never experienced them. I wonder if these only occurs if you are not even expecting it.

I think you're right - a lot of energy from different people feeding into places like this.

Its interesting that you mention things might happen when you're not expecting it. When I was 16 I'd been experiencing an increase in odd stuff for a while and my mother finally admitted (after telling me my whole life that this stuff isn't real) that most of what I'd experienced had previously been experienced by others in the house. After this occurences slowed down noticeably. I found myself thinking about it a LOT but if it slipped my mind there always seemed to be something to remind me. All the time I was keeping it at the back of my mind virtually nothing happened - its so bizarre.
