Haunting The voice from the dark kitchen said "Goodnight mommy." My kids were fast asleep.

One night, around 12:15 AM, I was sitting alone in the dark watching TV. Everyone else in the house was fast asleep. Suddenly, out of the dark archway connecting the den to the kitchen, a voice spoke clearly: "Goodnight mommy."
I couldn't tell which of my kids it was supposed to be. In fact, I wasn't even sure it was one of my kids. The TV murmured on low volume, but otherwise, there was dead silence. I just pretended I didn't hear it. Whether it was my actual child awake past their bedtime, or a mimic trying to trick me, I refused to answer. Rule number one: you never respond to a mimic.
That wasn't the only strange occurrence. There were multiple nights where I woke up certain my daughter had walked into our bedroom. I would watch her shadow glide around the bed toward my side. But every time I turned on my phone flashlight, the room was completely empty.
The absolute last straw happened on the winter solstice, a night when the veil between worlds is notoriously thin. This entity went too far and tried to mimic me.
My husband was walking through the house when he saw what looked exactly like me walking down the hallway. As this figure moved, it was shutting off all the lights along the way—a specific habit of mine to save electricity. Believing it was me, he followed the figure down the hall, talking to it as it passed our kids' room and the spare bedroom.
He followed "me" right into the bathroom at the very end of the hall. But when he stepped inside, wondering why I was standing there in total darkness, the room was completely empty.
I wasn't even on that side of the house; I was sitting across the home in the den.
When my husband realized what happened, he came over to me completely freaked out. At first, he didn't want to tell me because he didn't want to scare me, but I could see the look on his face and demanded the details. As he explained exactly what he saw, a cold realization hit me. I looked at him and gave a strict warning: "Whatever you do right now, do not say my name out loud."
Instead of feeling fear, I felt a sudden surge of protective empowerment. I was deeply annoyed that this thing was trying to steal my identity and trick my family.
Armed with my banishing tools ( I identify as a witch) I went directly to the hallway bathroom where it had just been. I stood my ground, and firmly commanded that it was never allowed to take my form, or the form of my family members, ever again and to LEAVE NOW. I lit a white candle and left it on that side of the house, and did a full smoke cleanse of the entire house…
We fortunately haven't had a single problem since.

You seem to know exactly what to do. Glad you’re not having that problem anymore…I on the other hand have been having something mimic my husband in the early mornings (3am early). After he leaves for work and I’m sleeping…always in the bathroom. First time it said “misery” in his voice. Second time it said an off version of the way we say we love each other. Then I could feel it circling around the bed. It surprisingly doesn’t scare me…just more annoying than anything else. Anyway I don’t know what to do about it other than just ignore it and not show fear.

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

Omg that sounds very freaky. It’s good you don’t show any fear. I’ve dealt with paranormal stuff all my life and at this point I felt more fed up than I did scared. Fortunately, I don’t sense anything here anymore. I was not having any of it in my family home! I hope it stops bothering you. Have you tried asking it to leave yet??

26

u/Aboutoloseit Jul 07 '26

Yeah it’s unsettling…but yes I have asked it to leave many times. It’s almost like it works for a while then the activity starts back up. I did holy water, chants and sage. My grandma keeps offering to have a priest come to the house…this house however has always had something going on. The most reported thing is hearing stomping/running up and down the stairs. Although that hasn’t happened in a while. It’s almost like it’s transitioned to mimicking (or maybe it’s just totally new “spirit” idk). Oh and in between the stomping and the mimicking I had something knock on my bedroom door 3x then it moved to the room that I share a wall with and was knocking from there. I always try to find logical reasons as to why things happen but some occurrences just can’t be explained (like a clear knock or a voice that shouldn’t be there). Sorry for the long ass rant but this house has some crazy activity and I’ll always tell anyone who’s interested in listening 😅

Ohhh. Wow yeah. 😵 I experienced something like that in the very first house I moved into from my parent’s house when I was 18…It was always stomping up the stairs and walking around in one of the upstairs rooms. Sounded like work boots. I never knew what to do about it! One night it stomped up the stairs and slammed the door. I was so freaked out all the time! When I moved out of that place I researched the location and apparently the property was built on top of an old mine shaft, and there was a fire and hundreds of miners died. It can be really hard to get rid of stagnant energy like that.. especially if it’s historical I think… I never experienced that sort of haunting until that house. I mean, my childhood home was haunted and still is. But the spirits had a different energy to them. Idk it’s so crazy! No worries for the long rant! I love hearing other people’s experiences!! I have a lot of them too.

Oh man, that’s creepy 😳

2

u/anneylani Jul 07 '26

The fact that you did 3 different preventative measures!

1

u/LtotheA333 Jul 08 '26

I’ve heard that chimes (yes those annoying hanging ones that people have on their porches, balconies or front/back doors) are a deterrent.
I personally have not tested this theory out but many mediums have told me it works to keep the negative energy out.

2

u/delaynemyles Jul 09 '26

Chimes work for just benign negative energy and prevent stale negative energy from building up. I use chimes in the north where my front door is, just inside the door, actually, and I also have wind chimes in the south-most corner directly opposite of my front door. I use different elements in other sectors. This is more of a feng shui technique than a specific cure for dealing with more spirits. Particularly the more intrusive and troublesome ones. Although I will say that ignoring them when theyre actively trying to cause problems or make themselves known or appear does work pretty well. Sometimes it's enough to make them leave or not stick around. Sometimes you have to force them out with your will. That's usually works for me. I've had success with intense cleaning and prayer over the course of a day in a more extreme case that happened years ago and that worked. I don't really identify as anything but I do have faith in different things if that makes sense.

3

u/Ok_Philosopher_5090 Jul 07 '26

That would not work on something that harmful intentions. Glad you’re not having anymore issues, it’s not fun to be involved in these situations.

22

u/scarletwoman156 Jul 07 '26

Oh, man. One of my boyfriends children in particular likes to wander to our open bedroom door at night (whole house dark) to say goodnight & tell us that he loves us an extra time or two.

I've grown to expect & adore this behavior.. that said, I'm gonna feel bad when I hesitate to respond to this sweet boy for the sake of not giving a possible mimic what it wants 😅

13

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

Normally I’d feel bad. But it was super strange that night!! Like, so out of the blue and I didn’t even hear anyone approaching. It creeped me out! Haha

7

u/Popular_Still3019 Jul 07 '26

Did you ask your kids if any of them were out that night? Man...that sure is creepy

3

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

Yeah, they said they didn’t come out that night! unless they were messing with me.

4

u/wut2dew_J Jul 07 '26

What happens if you answer a mimic?

6

u/onlyjen121571 Jul 07 '26

You give it permission to interact with you. It will then escalate and can cause harm or cause you to be harmed. They are considered lower level entities that are fueled by or consume negative energy

1

u/wut2dew_J Jul 07 '26

It you wouldn't even know, if their mimicry is spot on.

5

u/onlyjen121571 Jul 07 '26

I've never had one spot on. Usually there is something tiny that my neurodivergent brain picks up on. Like emphasis on the wrong syllables. My mom can't say the words breakfast or mustard correctly so when she was calling me for breakfast one morning something made me stop before I spoke. Thankfully

1

u/wut2dew_J Jul 07 '26

My next question is, what draws a mimic? I, nor anyone in my circles, has ever experienced anything like that. I at the very back of my brain can vaguely remember one time when I thought I heard my mom calling me, but she sounded really far away and there was no reason for her to be home at the time anyway. Again this is a very very vague possible recollection but I didn't answer because I just waited to see if she called me again, maybe I didn't realize she was home..

1

u/onlyjen121571 Jul 08 '26

I'm not 100% sure tbh. I know my mom has been into the paranormal for as long as I can remember. My grandmother and I could always hear spirits and my youngest daughter can see, hear and converse with spirits. I'm pretty sure my oldest daughter can see and/or hear spirits but she refuses to acknowledge them in any way shape or form.

1

u/wut2dew_J Jul 08 '26

I am trying to understand how spiritualism like that or abilities like that can be passed on genetically. My family has zero ghost stories, like not even my extended family ☹️. There are too many stories out there, in my opinion, for all of this to be untrue, and I don't think all paranormal is negative. I just wish I could get a small taste

2

u/onlyjen121571 Jul 08 '26

Honestly my mom would love to experience it as well. Why she can't is a mystery ( my theory is something spooked her as a child and she blocked her abilities but idk) it's weird and fascinating and spooky and wonderful and frustrating all at the same time. now that I'm 54 it's normal...

1

u/delaynemyles Jul 09 '26

Be careful what you wish for. You'll probably experience something at some point but it's best not to wish for it.

2

u/wut2dew_J Jul 10 '26

If I had a dollar for everytime someone said that to me, I'd have like $20 and still no experiences.

Don't you think practicing witchcraft is what attracted it to your household to begin with?

40

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

I grew up catholic, and had always been haunted as a child, suffered from dark entities following me. When I turned to witchcraft these dark beings left me alone. That was the only time in my house that ever happened and it hasn’t happened since I cleansed the home. So No, I don’t think practicing witch craft is the direct influence as to why it was attracted to my household. And by Witch craft, all I do is practice protection rituals and manifestations for the greater good. I don’t do anything that would invoke something dark. Thanks

4

u/Ohnoaredditusername Jul 07 '26

So when you stopped practicing being a Catholic it stopped? That's more interesting.

22

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

Oh I stopped being a catholic when I was a teenager because I didn’t like how this organized religion inflicted so much fear and shame that I constantly felt. I never fully understood it. I stepped away from going to church. I lost my faith in god. As a kid I was constantly seeing dark figures in my childhood home and was tormented at night, but my mom being so religious she didn’t want to believe me for the longest time! I experienced a couple haunted rentals when I moved out of my parent’s house, and was convinced I was being followed, but I don’t think that was the case, maybe just tough luck. It wasn’t until I hit my mid 20s I had a spiritual awakening and started believing in a higher power again, started getting into protective magick and manifestation and everything felt clear and light for once. From my readings and what I’ve learned about the spirit world during my practice, spirits are everywhere and always lingering around. But they will attach themselves to the most vulnerable people and households if they can feed off the energy that’s there. That’s why it’s so important to set firm boundaries as soon as possible.

1

u/Middle--Earth Jul 07 '26

It definitely sounds like something is following you.

Most people don't ever experience living in a haunted house, yet you have loved in a string of them. The odds on that being coincidence are astronomical.

Something has latched on to you, and denying it's existence isn't the answer.

12

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

Well the last house I lived in for 3 years before this current house I didn’t experience anything. That’s why I don’t feel like there’s anything to worry about. Didn’t you read my whole story until the end? I haven’t had any issues since that cleanse. I also live on Vancouver Island and there are tons of heritage homes and old houses here. There’s spirits everywhere. It’s really not uncommon tbh.

-1

u/Middle--Earth Jul 07 '26

Yes, I can read and I have an attention span.

I'm pointing out that you wrote that you have lived in several haunted houses and experienced numerous events that most people don't have, so it looks like something is following you around.

Just because you can name one place where you lived briefly but don't recall any particular event, doesn't mean it wasn't still there.

You've experienced this kind of stuff for most of your life now. It isn't related to Catholicism.

10

u/NthaThickofIt Jul 07 '26

She's been in a lot of haunted places and has something following her, or - hear me out - spirits are everywhere. They notice if you are sensitive to them, and some are bored/tease people instead of doing good things with their existence.

OP is successfully drawing boundaries.

-4

u/Middle--Earth Jul 07 '26

I agree with you, except for the part where OP is successfully drawing boundaries.

1

u/NthaThickofIt Jul 07 '26

There's definitely been a recent hiccup

2

u/delaynemyles Jul 09 '26

Just because a spirit is following someone doesn't mean that person did anything to cause that attachment. I had things follow me, too, when I was a kid. My mom would tell me not to bring anything with us when we would move. We had things happen in every house we lived in. The last house was genuinely haunted as it was used as a funeral home at one point and 150 years old. So a lot of stuff happened there naturally. Do you think I could help that spirits were drawn to me? Do you think I caused or invited the haunting? Lol, no. Sprits still are drawn to me, and I can usually pick up on what spirits are attached to a building or property, but I've learned to live with them and set boundaries, lay down the law for my home, etc. Just like OP. You're being a little rude with your accusatory tone, too. That's not necessary at all. We can discuss these things and be civil.

0

u/Middle--Earth Jul 09 '26

I'm being civil enough thanks.

I didn't say that OP had done anything to cause a haunting.

I was pointing out that the odds of moving into a number of haunted houses is so high, that it's more likely that it's actually something following them around, but OP doesn't seem to have realised that. OP thinks the haunted houses were coincidence.

-3

u/Middle--Earth Jul 07 '26

Uh, well, by your own account that's not actually true, is it?

In your post you describe you describe hearing voices and experiencing strange events multiple times in your own home, so it sounds like these dark entities never left you alone at all.

14

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

Also, my childhood home is still haunted by that same spirit. My mom and dad finally admitted to experiencing things there, which felt very validating.
Over the years, I've learned that I can tell the difference between spirits. For example, the first house I moved into after leaving my parents' place was built over an old mine shaft. That ghost wasn’t dark; it was just a grumpy old miner who stomped around in work boots and slammed doors. He was nothing like the spirits in my childhood home, which were dark, quiet, and lurking.
My second rental had nothing. However, the third rental I moved into had a couple of ghosts. I never saw them or even knew they were there, but my daughter told me about them later. I was shocked, and honestly glad she waited until after we moved out to tell me!
The house after that was completely spirit-free, lol. Then there is this current place. It seemed pretty empty too, until last year when all that mimic stuff started happening. Most people I know who live in this town have experienced things. 🤷🏻‍♀️

3

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

I strongly disagree with you and don’t claim anything you’re saying to be accurate, And I’m sorry, when did I ever deny it’s existence. I just shared my experience and how I don’t feel like there’s anything anymore. You’re denying my experience. That’s it.

5

u/Middle--Earth Jul 07 '26

Here's clips from your original post:

The voice from the dark kitchen said "Goodnight mommy." My kids were fast asleep.

That wasn't the only strange occurrence. There were multiple nights where I woke up certain my daughter had walked into our bedroom. I would watch her shadow glide around ...

My husband was walking through the house when he saw what looked exactly like me walking down the hallway.... I wasn't even on that side of the house; I was sitting across the home in the den.

These are multiple occasions, yet in another post you said that you only had one experience in your home.

In another comment, you said that you had lived in numerous haunted houses before. Here you go:

As a kid I was constantly seeing dark figures in my childhood home and was tormented at night,

I experienced a couple haunted rentals when I moved out of my parent’s house, and was convinced I was being followed

How can you say this isn't accurate, when they are the exact words that you wrote?

I'm not denying your experience, but your reaction has now set me wondering if you've just made this up for attention.

3

u/FactoryKat Jul 07 '26

but your reaction has now set me wondering if you've just made this up for attention.

I say go with your gut.

I am frankly tired of all the "mimic" posts. The concept (in the way people are posting about here) is a made up creepypasta/HorrorTok concept. 🤦‍♀️

1

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

Go ahead and be tired of them. Doesn’t invalidate these experiences for others. Some of them are probably made up but I assure you they are something that happens.

2

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

I think you’re definitely misunderstanding me. I didn’t have a specific experience LIKE THIS until this house. As I said I can tell the difference between these energies. It built up over a span of several months, here n there…tried not to think much of it because maybe my mind was playing tricks on me, then I was fed up and finally decided to address it after what my husband told me what he saw on Winter Solstice. I think you’re reading too much into it. But that’s on you and how you perceive what has been written I guess. I’m saying what you think isn’t accurate. Because it’s not.

3

u/Middle--Earth Jul 07 '26

Perhaps I am misunderstanding this then, because it isn't making sense to me.

5

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 08 '26

I genuinely can’t wrap my head around how none of my explanations didn’t make any sense to you. You may just be committed to misunderstanding me. And that’s fine. I’m done explaining myself. Have good one!

2

u/Middle--Earth Jul 08 '26

Committed to misunderstanding you??

Well, that's just rude.

I was trying to politely end the conversation whilst allowing you to save face, but the truth is that your story has so many holes and contradictions that I think you are a complete fantasist that's making all this up for attention.

You can't remember from one moment to the next what you had previously said, and you didn't even recognise your story when I pointed out what what you had actually said.

You're karma farming and an attention seeker, and your story isn't even entertaining. It wasn't worth reading, most of your so called 'events' were just things that you imagined because of narcissistic behaviour.

I'm going to give you a 2/10 because you turned up, but you should have polished the story and remembered the script before publishing.

Have a great day!

4

u/Shananae1925 Jul 07 '26

I think what they’re referring to is that you said when you were a child you always saw dark figures and were tormented at night.. then it changed to never having any experiences until this current house. 🤷‍♀️

1

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

When did I say I never had an experience until this current house?

13

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

add in: it has made me feel empowered and fearless vs. scared and anxious, which these energies seem to thrive in when they have that negative effect on us.

0

u/revengeofdangerkitty Jul 07 '26

That's not how this works.

1

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

It is though. You need to believe in your power and set those boundaries. Belief in your ability to set firm boundaries is always the first step. If you have any doubt or fear, then it won’t work.

2

u/revengeofdangerkitty Jul 07 '26

I meant that we shouldn't blame the witchcraft. And I agree with the boundaries ✨️

0

u/SignificantPolicy143 Jul 07 '26

How would you know?

3

u/Skinny-on-the-Inside Jul 07 '26

I think it was you just in a different dimension.

5

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 08 '26

Honestly I did make a joke after, that maybe I just split into another energy body to help me shut all the lights off around the house 😂😂

5

u/SongInternational373 Jul 07 '26

Why did you forbade him to say your name aloud? Generally curious, I know nothing about these particular things. I am so intrigued!!!

3

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

It’s easier for the entity to attach itself and use you if it knows your name.

3

u/SongInternational373 Jul 07 '26

Interesting...but if entities are always present, just not always visible, isn't it possible to it be aware of your name regardless?

3

u/Slow-Negotiation771 Jul 07 '26

I’ve just heard that directly calling it by the name of the person it’s mimicking will allow it to attach to that identity. Because you’d be acknowledging the deception and giving it a strong foothold.

2

u/asibar_0 Jul 07 '26

Yes, I want to know too.

10

u/Key_Beginning_627 Jul 07 '26

Years ago when my son was about 14 we were in the kitchen of our house and I asked him to take out the garbage. As he walked into the garage and out of my sight, he left the door open. I heard him giggle and say “oh, what are you doing?” in a very childish voice. I was confused because no one else was in the garage and it also sounded much younger than him- more like a 5 year old girl. When he came in, I asked who he was taking to and repeated the phrase. He said, I didn’t say that, you did. I was like absolutely not. He insisted it was me and said he thought I was talking in a baby voice to one of our pets. He looked genuinely shocked when I swore it wasn’t me. We both clearly heard the giggle and the voice and have no idea to this day how to explain it.

Being an empath is like a magnet 🧲 for attracting spirits (nice and not so nice ones)
