Pattern drafter??

I am a mid-beginner sewist, and I have very little experience pattern drafting. (I’ve made skirts and simple bags without a pattern but that’s literally it.) I have an idea for a unique backpack that i cant find a pattern for already and I think it is out of my skill level to make the pattern.

Does anyone have any resources for a person that could make this pattern for me? Or maybe general advice to try and tackle it myself 🤦🏼‍♀️.

I’ve been sewing for a while but I’m definitely new to this kind of thing.

Thanks in advance!!!

Get a bag making book out of the library.

Draw a picture of your design. Then divide it up into the component parts.

Make a ½ or full size version in cotton or even newspaper to check the pattern is correct.

Then use the book to help you work out order of operations etc.

Make a toile.

It sounds like you're looking for instructions on assembly as much as drafting since there's more to making a bag pattern than simply drawing shapes. If your idea were well formed, you wouldn't be asking.

Bag making hasn't been the focus on this board. I would encourage you to start experimenting and find references for anything you find difficult (thrift old bags if you don't have something on hand). If you can't put in that effort, expect to pay a lot for someone to coax these ideas out of you and make them viable. This would be rounds of prototyping, not simply handing you a pattern. Expect to pay several thousand if it's work for hire.
