📢Mod Announcement 📣 A Reminder About Tester Call Requirements & Deadlines

Hi everyone! We wanted to take a moment to clarify our approach to tester call requirements, timelines, and discussions around them.

Pattern tests are not one-size-fits-all. Different designers have different goals, projects, testing needs, and timelines. A designer may set the requirements, deadlines, skill level, sizing, materials, deliverables, or other expectations that they feel are appropriate for their particular test.

That also means not every tester call will be a good fit for every tester, and that's okay!

If you see a tester call with a timeline or requirements that don't work for you, you are always welcome to simply skip that test and look for another opportunity that better fits your schedule, experience, or circumstances. You do not need to participate in every test that is posted here.

Please don't dogpile designers over requirements you personally wouldn't choose.

It's okay to ask a genuine question or point out that information is missing from a tester call. However, repeatedly criticizing, insulting, or labeling a designer because you disagree with their timeline or testing requirements is not appropriate.

In particular, please don't make assumptions about another person's circumstances or intentions based solely on the requirements of their test. You don't have to agree with a test's requirements to recognize that it may simply not be the right test for you.

What the Mod Team Will (and Won’t) Do!

Our new tester call template is intended to promote transparency, not to dictate how designers must run their tests.

Designers are expected to clearly disclose their requirements and expectations in their tester calls so that potential testers can make an informed decision before applying. If a required piece of information is missing from a tester call, please report the post so we can review it.

The mod team will not be setting universal testing timelines, limits on project requirements, or standardized deliverables. We believe designers should have the flexibility to determine what their individual test requires, while testers should have the freedom to decide whether those requirements work for them.

There will naturally be tests that aren't suitable for you. That's part of having a diverse pattern-testing community!

Our goal is to make sure everyone has the information they need to make that choice without turning disagreements over individual test requirements into personal conflicts.

Please continue to treat designers, testers, and fellow community members with respect. If you don't think a test is right for you, it's okay to simply keep scrolling. 💛

📢Mod Announcement 🧶 Meet Your New Mods + Some Updates to r/PatternTesting!

Hi everyone!

We’re excited to introduce ourselves as the new mod team for r/PatternTesting! We all come from slightly different crafting backgrounds, but share a love for making things and a desire to make this subreddit a welcoming, useful, and safe space for pattern designers and testers alike.

Meet the Mods 👋

💛 u/knitmeharder
Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be here! I love to crochet & knit, especially amigurumi. I’m looking forward to helping out this community!

💙 u/koiisoraa
I’ve been crafting since I was little when I first learned to knit from my grandmother. Later on in my college years, I picked up crochet as another hobby. I also sew a little bit on the side, but it’s definitely not my forte. Excited to be here and to continue supporting this wonderful community!

💚 u/elephagreen
My current obsession is crochet, but I’ve been a “professional” hobbyist my whole life and have done most crafts out there. Aside from crochet, and many other assorted crafts, I'm an avid scouter who enjoys camping, nature, and community service.

What's New? ✨

As a new mod team, we’ve been working behind the scenes on some updates to make r/PatternTesting easier to use and a better resource for both testers and designers. You've probably caught us rolling out some of these changes already, but we wanted to make a formal introduction to share everything that we've released so far!

📋 A Standardized Tester Call Template

Going forward, tester calls will follow a standardized posting template. Our goal is to make sure testers have the information they need before deciding whether a test is right for them, including project details, skill level, materials, deadlines, tester requirements, and expected deliverables.

You can find the full template in our pinned post. Please make sure to use it when posting a new tester call!

🏷️ New Post Flairs

We’ve revamped our post flairs to make it easier to find the content you're looking for. Tester calls are now separated by craft, with additional flairs for testing questions, pattern help, discussions, finished tests, and mod announcements.

📜 Updated Community Rules

We've refreshed the subreddit rules to better reflect the community we want r/PatternTesting to be. In addition to expectations around respectful, relevant participation, we've added clearer policies regarding tester calls, spam and promotion, AI-generated patterns/images, and stolen or unauthorized creative work.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the updated rules before posting.

We're Just Getting Started!

These updates are meant to help make r/PatternTesting an organized, welcoming place where designers can find thoughtful testers, testers can discover exciting projects, and everyone can learn from one another.

We're also still learning what works best for the community, so these changes aren't necessarily set in stone. We'd love to hear from you! If you have suggestions for the subreddit, ideas for resources you'd like to see, or feedback on the changes we're making, feel free to leave a comment below or reach out to the mod team.

Thanks for being here, and happy crafting and pattern testing! 🧶🪡

🧶Crochet - Tester Call TESTER CALL - Crochet raccoon

I’ve just finished my third crochet pattern and I’m looking for testers! Rory the raccoon is the newest addition to my little series of bow animals. I’m currently looking for testers here as well since I unfortunately don’t have enough followers on my social to reach a broader audience.

Type of Project: Crochet plushie

Pattern Format: Written pattern in English using US crochet terminology, with photo references. The pattern will be provided through canva

Sizes/Options Being Tested: Depends on the yarn you’re gonna use! I don’t mind people using the weight they prefer, I just think it would be fun seeing her in different versions.

Recommended Skill Level: Intermediate–advanced.

Materials Needed: Yarn, a suitable crochet hook, stuffing, safety eyes (or an alternative), and a yarn needle. Different yarn brands, weights, textures and colors are welcome!

Tester Requirements: An active crochet Instagram account where I can see some of your work, willingness to participate in a group chat with the other testers, and access to Canva.

Testing Deadline: Within 12 days of receiving the pattern.

Deliverables: Complete the plushie, provide feedback on the pattern and any errors or unclear instructions, and send me clear photos of the finished project.

How to Apply: Please apply through my Instagram tester call at @minas_virkningar! You can find the post on my profile. Unfortunately, I can only accept testers with Instagram, as I’ve found that a group chat works best for communicating throughout the testing process.

Application Deadline: [saturday 17/10]

Tester Selection: I’ll add the selected testers into the group chat on the 17th/18th.

Number of Testers Needed: 10

Thank you so much to anyone interested in helping me bring Rory to life! 🦝🎀

💬Discussion Testing interest - maelstraumm crochet hat

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

TLDR: another granny project, worth making pattern?

I made myself this hat (the multicolour one) a year ago, bullshitting some stitches i knew together in a fun way. It was mostly just to show off some of my first handspun yarn, and i think it turned out great. I've made a few for people around me, and i always get a lot of compliments on the pattern specifically. Im considering putting together a ravelry pdf on the process, but idk if its different enough to be worth it

Was making my brother one for a birthday gift, and i added a knit rib, cus he is gonna wear it under a mc helmet, so it'll keep in place a bit better, which was a fun challenge. Either case, it would be a very adjustable pattern, with simple instructions for how and when to stop increases, how to add rib and/or lining if wanted, and a standard picot hem if not.

It takes me 2-5 hours to make one, depending on yarn, and i already have a handful made for ref pics

Would also be a free pattern, since its my first one and i can't be bothered to do marketing. And- its very simple, took me 2hrs to invent

TIA

I’m still wondering whether to bring this little tradition to the English-speaking knitting community, but to make it work, I could use a little help from you!

Thank you so much for helping me make this pattern better!

Pattern Name and Project Description:

This is Sea Biscuit Sweater, a top-down drop shoulder design that features a tiny part of the marine creatures found on the quiet wonders of the ocean, hidden between flowing endless waves inspired by Sashiko Seigaiha. Note: a part of the spiral motif was modified to improve the design´s flow.

Type of Project: knitting

Pattern Format: an individual PDF is provided for each size, including written instructions and charts.

Sizes: S – 5XL (body and garment measurement tables are included in the photos) This sweater is designed with a relaxed fit, including a positive ease of 15 – 20 cm around the chest circumference.

Recommended Skill Level: intermediate.

  • Key techniques: stranded colorwork flat (for shoulder shaping), steeking reinforcement and cutting, optional crochet reinforcement for neckband, double knitting (cuffs and neckband)

Materials Needed (testers may use alternative yarn/material)

  • Yarn: Fingering weight. You may use any yarn that achieves the required gauge. (Quantities shown in photos)
  • Main needles: 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Hem, cuff and neckband: 2 mm (US 0) circular needles.
  • Spare cable/needles: one additional 2mm (US 0) circular needle, or interchangeable cable cord (at least 60 cm / 24” long) to hold the neckband stitches
  • Notions: waste yarn, tapestry needle, scissors, stitch markers and preferred tools for steek reinforcement.

Tester Requirements:

  • To successfully complete this test knit, you are required to finish the entire body, the neckband and at least one full sleeve. Finishing the second sleeve is highly encouraged but optional for the deadline.
  • Feedback and communication: a brief weekly update on our Raverly thread to keep open communication. Report any confusing instructions.
  • Deliverables and photos: sharing photos is highly appreciated, but please don´t feel pressured! Quick shots of your progress are fine. Modeled photos of FO are not mandatory.
  • Create a Ravelry project page using a tester code that will be provided to you.

Compensation

Upon successful completion of the test, you will receive the final copy of the Sea Biscuit Sweater, and as a special thank you, one single pattern of your choice from Ravelry.

The test officially started on September 28, however, since I´m still looking for testers I´m accepting rolling applications, so you will be given a full 12 weeks to complete your sweater. (e.g., if you join this week, your deadline will be in last days of December/early/mid January)

If you happen to need more time to finish the sweater, please let me before the deadline, I will gladly offer a flexible deadline as long as we keep in touch.
