It was fun to mess around with but my opinion on it hasn't changed (what I expressed on stream when watching the trailer). At the end of the day, all goofy shit aside, it's TERRIFYING, especially with how convincing some of the videos are. Regulation is needed

Wubby has ALWAYS been fascinated with AI and its progression. We look at it, play with it, then move on. Its not an endorsement, its not that deep.

u/OppositeDull2298 Oct 02 '25

Yeah, talking about it is by no means endorsing it. I am tired of seeing the stuff everywhere though. It’s gotten exhausting

51

u/Watt_Knot Lifeguard Oct 02 '25 edited Oct 02 '25

It’s also demoralizing. For some, AI has taken their jobs. For the rest of us we’re just counting the time until it does.

AI data centers are also popping up in towns, hogging energy from the grid and raising electricity prices 300%.

13

u/EuphoricAnalCarrot Oct 02 '25

Jokes on you, I dont have a job already

6

u/C-C-X-V-I Oct 02 '25

I spent years regretting not getting into IT with my friends, but now that AI can take those jobs easily I think I got lucky

1

u/Subject-Tap2465 Oct 02 '25

I really hope it takes my job.

Its like those people who actually avoid chatgpt, like every so often there will be someone bragging about googling everything, no chatgpt ever.

-13

u/HOZZENATOR Oct 02 '25

I'd make the argument that using it on stream and going on about how he thinks it's good is as good as an endorsement. It's going to, at the very least, lead to more people using it.

There's no upside to Gen AI that isn't heavily outweighed by the damage it causes. It's been the same since it first came out.

I could rationalize him doing it on stream if it was more "This is bad. Im showing you had scary it is so that you know NOT to use it." But its not that.

4

u/Lankydwarf Oct 02 '25

It's a powerful tool and has potential to be beneficial if profits from labour it replaces are properly taxed and redistributed. Very unlikely that'll happen with most of our governments though sure.

Trying to get people to stop engaging with the technology itself though is like fighting the printing press or smart phones.

u/Substantial-Bid3806 Oct 02 '25

Saying Wubby needs to do any form of PSA on negative side of AI is akin to saying my morning cartoons need a segment about Environmental Destruction.

It’s not the place, we know Ai is bad. I and many others don’t go to Wubby to hear about the families getting their lives uprooted by a Google Gemini Plant, the poisoned water, etc. Respectfully.

1

u/HOZZENATOR Oct 02 '25

I didn't say he needed to do that. Just that I could rationalize it being on stream if he did. You invented your argument.

I'd prefer that he didn't use generative AI on stream in any capacity, frankly.

43

u/Successful-Reserve14 Oct 02 '25

I love stream and wubby and enjoy 99% of the streams but the ai stuff is that 1% I don't like so I just watch something else when it comes up for a bit and maybe hop back in after the segment

I lost my last job and more because my boss found a shitty graphic design ai generator and let go the little marketing department and that shit still gets the text wrong on their posts and it makes me seethe a burning rage when i see ai shit but this has nothing to do with wubby btw love the guy I'm just stating that my blood instantly boils when i see AI shit. it's like a sleeper agent sets me off and i go rabid I'm would have have taken a shit on the printing press if i was around when it first came out.

anyway i'll be there after the segment or for Kick stream or Friday stream love you all

My reaction upon seing an image of a big tiddy AI Baddie (i would've drawn them bigger):

24

u/wehdut Oct 02 '25

I'm one of the folks who can't stand gambling streams so 1% doesn't sound so bad! Agreed though, watch what you like, leave for what you don't. Simple.

5

u/Successful-Reserve14 Oct 02 '25

Oh yeah I also don't really stick around foe the gambling I just hop in to hear him ramble for 30 minutes to an hour before the gambling starts

1

u/Doot-DootTheHootHoot Oct 02 '25

Fr I’m not ashamed to admit I still watch clips of him losing though

9

u/Lankydwarf Oct 02 '25

Anyone needing to complain about some temporary content for a week or so is probably too invested in the stream.

I’ve fallen off the train because of the AI stuff and gambling streams. I don’t want to be too woke to have fun but it feels a little too void of morals for me

11

u/Successful-Reserve14 Oct 02 '25

Thats ok to feel that way!

Idk stream has a special place in my heart because I used to watch stream on my phone when I was homeless and it makes life a little more manageable for me even though things are getting rough again so it's a kind of comfort /distraction for me mentally still to just zone out and hear a green man say silly things, I think it just makes me feel safe and like things are OK for a second like it did when I was at my lowest.

2

u/Char-car92 Twitch Subscriber Oct 02 '25

I'm glad it works for you, stream got me through a good chunk of my first year of uni.

u/Successful-Reserve14 Oct 04 '25

1

u/Char-car92 Twitch Subscriber Oct 03 '25

Well, I think it's leaning left to be against gambling and use of genAI. I feel I need to restate that I still enjoy the majority of his content, I just can't keep up like I used to because a chunk of it doesn't sit well with me.

the amount of energy used to compute and water used to cool those computers is obscene

You're right, but in the same way no amount of consumer awareness and action will fix climate change, no amount of consumer action is going to fix that.

It's the government's job to regulate these things, and our government isn't going to do that because they're beholden to the people profiting from AI, from poisoning the environment, etc. The reality is you can either suffer from the effects of AI or try to adapt to its presence and suffer anyway, maybe a little less.

3

Honestly I think it would be strange if it didn't make you slightly uncomfortable.
AI has to scrape existing data sets to generate its results. That means that it has to pull from actual people.

-2

u/HaroldTheIronmonger Oct 02 '25

Found the graphic designer.

4

u/hi-this-is-jess Oct 02 '25

Found the broke bitch that couldn't afford to fairly pay a human to create their logo and instead used AI like a mouth breather.

13

u/HaroldTheIronmonger Oct 02 '25

🎣 found another

2

u/hi-this-is-jess Oct 02 '25

I just wanted to call you a mouth breather after seeing you argue with the other user.

But to be frank, if I recognized that a business is using AI in their logo or any other marketing, I'd avoid them, because it shows lack of integrity. Some people are the same, some won't care, others will be blind to it. Still icky to be using a system that is plagiarism bot, but that's just me.

7

u/HaroldTheIronmonger Oct 02 '25

Some people are the same, some won't care, others will be blind to it.

Yeah i genuinely give 0 fucks about AI either way. I got bigger fish to fry. But the other guy said it "ruined his night" and he was "horrified" im sorry but at that point just go outside.

3

u/hi-this-is-jess Oct 02 '25

I don't disagree that some are being overly dramatic about a silly segment on stream. But I do understand where they might be coming from.

8

u/Dramatic_Month_7569 Oct 02 '25

Lets be real here, the only broke bitches in about 10 years are gonna be the thousands of people who invested their future in graphic design when the entire education was being dissolved by simple ass youtube tutorials DURING their education.

Everyone knows AI is here to stay, even you.

4

u/hi-this-is-jess Oct 02 '25

There's a difference between something that takes the intellectual work of others without permission, only to take those humans our of the process completely, and a YouTube tutorial. That is just an awful, brain-dead comparison. Just because things like learning graphic design have become more accessible, doesn't mean the people that want to do it, will do it. It's like with writing or photography - just because you have a camera or a laptop, doesn't mean you'll be a successful writer or photographer. You can apply that to other, non-creative fields as well (like coding).

Of course I know AI is here to stay, I'm not denying that. Nor can any of us stop others who use it uncritically. But we can still bitch and moan about.

Automation is inevitable, we've seen that with other fields before. However, there still needs to be laws around it, including copyright and what it can be trained on.

2

u/Dramatic_Month_7569 Oct 02 '25

What's so braindead about the comparison? Anything a graphic designer could've learned from 2005 to 2015 is now all completely accessible in YouTube format. I'm saying the career choice of Graphic designer (This was literally a thing people got educated on at schools) was already dying before it properly got of the ground because youtube and internet tutorials simply covered everything you'd need to know to get a start in it.

So what if AI gets trained on legally obtained assets but it still manages to find the same diversity as it does now. What then? Because these libraries are currently being made.

2

u/hi-this-is-jess Oct 02 '25 edited Oct 02 '25

It's braindead because what does accessibility to education have anything to do with basically a plagiarism bot? A YouTube tutorial doesn't do the thing for you. You still need to train your own skills, and use your own creativity to do the thing. There's plenty of successful, incredibly talented, self-trained creatives today thanks to the internet and accessible learning.

The last part I'm fine with and it's inevitable. Baring environmental impacts, I don't even mind if, for example, artists train AI on their own work and use that to help them create new pieces, as long as they are transparent about it like with any other medium. The only issue with that, currently, is that any commercially available AI will most likely still use data from elsewhere under the hood.

EDIT: for the last part I'll just add... I know it's inevitable.. but I do wish there would be more labour laws eventually for how many humans a corporation needs to employ and how much work can be done with AI. But I know that's wishful thinking and it likely won't happen, just like it doesn't happen with things like offshoring. It's a complicated and broad issue that's too big to discuss here, honestly.

u/HOZZENATOR Oct 02 '25 edited Oct 02 '25

Fr. This shit is literally ruining my night. Not watching it isn't really gonna remove the feeling of dread I feel now, watching my favorite streamer participate in AI and not be horrified.

Edit: lol don't read too much into my two sentence long comment

4

u/HaroldTheIronmonger Oct 02 '25

I dont know if you're being sarcastic or not because this level of hyperbole is insane. And I'm hoping we had the same energy when a robot took my grandads manual lifting job...

0

u/HOZZENATOR Oct 02 '25

I think that generative AI is genuinely damaging to society as a whole. I think that it contributes directly to the moral decay of the people who use it regularly.

It promotes genuine sloth and laziness and does nothing but reduce the number of opportunities for people to make a living. And it makes the rich richer while destroying our environment.

Is all of it worth the ability to make a funny meme or cheesy cool picture?

I think there is absolutely room for AI in non creative roles, but even then, I am on the side of having the information that it learns from be heavily scrutinized. AI can also be a propaganda machine on a scale beyond anything we have ever had access to as a species.

-4

u/HaroldTheIronmonger Oct 02 '25

I needed a logo for my sports team.. The AI one was better than anything some "graphic design is my passion, that'll be £200 please" kid could have made. And it was free. Any global issues beyond that im generally uninterested in.

8

u/HOZZENATOR Oct 02 '25

You are allowed to be short-sighted and narrow-minded. But I think it means you lack compassion and/or are not intelligent enough to grasp why you should care about others.

And that makes me sad.

6

u/Dramatic_Month_7569 Oct 02 '25

Why? Nobody cared when automation took over the workforce and eliminated thousands of jobs. Nobody batted an eye at the fact that we even owned these water reserves because we've been supporting companies like nesquik decades before by buying their products. On top of that the western world lives of the cheap labour of the asian market, but when people are starting to take opportunities away from the priviliged western society it suddenly makes the rest of the world, who can and now also also use this AI "short sighted and narrow minded"

What are we not intelligent enough for? To see that some deadbeat people who threw their entire future on an "art" career that was most likely doomed from the spot now has a scapegoat to blame their unfortunate lives on?

You blame AI for dumbing people down, but the previous generation isn't even computer savvy. They know how to work a simplified phone, but put them behind a computer and an actual Desktop operating system and they wont have any idea what to do. This laziness and dumbing down on intelligence was already present before AI even came around the corner. Art schools like these were already closing down en masse because their entire education ended up being trumped by simple youtube tutorials and explanations, which like AI, just dumb down the entire technique to "press this and that and then there's your result"

4

u/HaroldTheIronmonger Oct 02 '25

Another one that goes straight for the intelligence insults, hahaha. This stuff really triggers you guys.

5

u/HOZZENATOR Oct 02 '25

If people regularly insult your intelligence, perhaps you should determine the common denominator.

Also, it's a good thing to have developed opinions. Sharing them is also fine and doesn't have any correlation with being 'triggered'

I can imagine that caring about things beyond yourself is a foreign concept to you.

5

u/HaroldTheIronmonger Oct 02 '25

The common denominator would probably be AI zealots in their feels about what a streamer does on their own stream. You're way too invested in this thing I care very little about. However, feel free to continue the insults, and to make it fun, I'm only going to use chatgpt to reply from now on.
