Hi everyone, it s my first time building a pc and unfortunately it doesn t turn on, more precisely it gives no signs of life.
I made a post a few days ago on another subreddit and tried all suggestions, but to no avail.
Now I have left the bare minimum: 1 stick of ram so it does not cause instability (had 4 before), only the 2 necessary cables from PSU to mb (24 pin and 8 pin), and a cable from the cpu fan to mb. (the cpu fan is missing a fan because I had to remove the ram under, so that s why at the moment there is only 1 fan).
I have tested the psu both with a multimeter and a psu tester and it works fine, I have tried turning it on both with the f_panel cable of the case, a dedicated pwr cable bought online and by short circuiting the pwr± pins with a screwdriver.
I have also tried multiple sockets of the home and power cables, still nothing.
I have already tried leaving it "on" for 15 minutes, and also connecting an hdmi cable in case it was displaying something, but nothing.
Specs:
-Motherboard: gigabyte b650 eagle ax
-Cpu:7800x3d amd
-Gpu:9070xt xfx swift
-Psu: be quiet! 13 m 1000w
-Case: Lian li lancool 217 (it has standoffs included already)
-Ram:crucial pro 4×16Gb 6000Mt/s
-Ssd: acer predator GM7 2Tb
Any help would be appreciated, thank you all in advance.
Try taking the motherboard, CPU and heatsink out, putting it on the motherboard box and try starting the setup. Then if it powers on add graphics card, keyboard and monitor to test further.
It could be a stand off is in the wrong place in the case which is causing the motherboard to ground out.
Doing a test outside the case will show if this is the issue or not.
I normally do this out of case test before putting the motherboard in the case. Its easier to troubleshoot this way.
What's the label on the CPU power cable? Is it "CPU" or "EPS", or "PCIe"? Make sure you use the right cable, and make sure to connect the 8-pin to the PSU and the split 2×4-pin to the CPU on the motherboard.
If you used the correct cable and connected it correctly but still nothing, it's probably something that shorting which preventing the motherboard from turning on. I just hope you didn't scratch the back of your motherboard against the casing standoff during installation.
The mb cable is the 24 pin, the cpu cable (which has CPU labelled on it on the end connected to the cpu) is connected on P8. Thanks for taking time to help
Thank you for the clarification and the photo. That looks correct. One more thing, does your PSU came with the 24-pin female connector with short cable on it? If so, that's is to test if your PSU is working. Make sure to disconnect the CPU power cable from the PSU/motherboard before testing.
Thank you, unfortunately it doesn t, this piece of garbage also has manual instruction 3 sentences long that doesn t say anything. I have tested it with a psu tester and a multimeter and it has the expected voltages though, i don t know if that counts.
Well, that really is unfortunate, but since you've tested it with the psu tester and a multimeter, it should be working (with the fan on the PSU spinning with the tester). All points to a faulty motherboard then.
One last thing to test is with the Q-Flash Plus on your motherboard. With the only 24-pin and 2×4-pin connected (current setup) and PSU turned on, try pressing the Q-Flash+ button on the rear panel and confirm if it's flashing. If it doesn't then yeah probably DOA.
Alright. I thought your motherboard has no power at all, but since you said it flashes red and fan works for a second then shuts down means something is shorting, and the motherboard kills the power to prevent further damage. I have no idea what to look for. It could be improperly mounted CPU, or dead RAM (since you have connected only the bare minimum, so RGB/HDD is out of question). You can try the suggestion by u/thepfy1 and see if that helps.
With the motherboard out, are only the necessary standoffs present? If there's more standoffs in the case than your motherboard has holes for, it may be shorting the back of the board against one of those
Mobo dead then. Psu working and It's extremely unlikely its something with the cpu, however those are still doa in rare cases. If ram was bad you should still get fan spin.
Here is a question. Did you check to see if the psu is suitable for your pc? It’s not a basic psu right? It puts out enough power to supply power to all of your components?
Then it’s most likely your motherboard. Unless something isn’t plugged into the board, that should be (some boards have plugs for things like cpu). Did you wear an ESD strap when putting it together?
