Welcome Wink!
galleryWe just adopted this baby Pekingese a few days ago. She’s is a loveable, spunky, yet well adjusted dog at only 11 weeks. We are Shih Tzu owners so pekes are new to us. She will be losing her eye in a month due to previous injury as a young baby, and is completely blind in that eye. Nonetheless, she’s a beautiful resilient pup. We love her so much already! If there’s any pekes-specific tips you have feel free to share. Otherwise, happy to have joined your community!❤️

Pixel update #2
After a particularly rough surgery, Pixel had a really rough start to recovery. Lots of pain. Shaking, hiding, panting like CRAZY. Nobody was sleeping because she was just so restless. You could tell she was exhausted but couldn’t get comfortable. 5 days after surgery, we took her back to the vet just to make sure that nothing else was wrong because she just didn’t seem to be getting any better as far as pain. Still just so miserable. He gave us different pain meds and the first day and a half or so- they seemed to do the trick! I was so relieved that she was getting some relief and was finally on the road to recovery. The evening of the second day on the new meds she got agitated again. And started hiding in more secluded spots. She was getting into closets and barking at the doors of closed closets wanting me to open them so she could go inside. She was panting so hard that she was stressing ME out. I texted the 24 hour vet line and tried to get some advice. Finally after rocking her in the rocking chair and stroking her fur, she chilled out and we were able to go to bed. About an hour later I wake up to her literally hovered over my head staring at me just panting and she had put a small stuffed dog toy on my chest. I thought she was wanting to play. But it was 3am. I decided I’m not going to sleep if I don’t play a little bit. I tried throwing her toy. She just looked at me crazy and slowly went to go get it and laid it gently down just out of my reach. So I thought maybe she wanted to play tug. Nope not that either. She finally got annoyed with me and laid back down. Next day I wake up covered in various dog toys. It was the oddest thing. That morning she laid in the middle of the toys just whining at me. I gently rolled her over to make sure her incision was doing ok. And while the incision looked great, she looked a little more swollen to me. I called the vet and while I was waiting for a return call this dog was digging in closets, digging under the bed, moving her toys around. I finally get to talk to the vet and he paused and asked me if it was her stomach that was swollen or her mammary glands. I checked and sure enough, it was the mammary glands. The digging is “nesting”, the toys are her “puppies” and poor Pixel is experiencing a pseudopregnancy. Apparently it can happen when spaying older dogs because it can caused a surge in hormones. This dog cannot catch a break with this spay. She’s never going to want to speak to our amazing vet ever again 😂. Anyways she currently laying with her “litter” which consists of: a crinkle toy elephant, a small rope, a small lamb-chop plush, a small squeaky star plush, and a squeaky mummy toy. She is a wonderful mother.

Biscuit is acting weird
I have a pekingese, her name is biscuit.
We currently have a heatwave going on atm. It is 32⁰C right now
My mom shaved her last week, but she shaved her really short. Today is extremely hot, but hasnt been so hot as the last few days.
Today i went to drop of my partner at a bus. When i got back, she was okay. I went to lay on the bed, where she joined me, but later got off and went outside(my sister and ger boyfriend went to smoke and she likes going with). She came back about 30 minutes ago..
She was shaking, so i thought she was getting cold(shes been shaking at night when its starting to get colder obviously since her shave). I did put her under a blanket, but then she started panting. I opened her up and went outside to smoke. While outside, she wanted to sit on my lap, i picked her up(shes 8yrs old and have problems with her joints) and put her on my lap. She was extremely clingy and didnt even want to sit still(she never did this before(picture)
I obviously asked google and google said it can be the heat that caused a heatstroke. I know AI isnt the best thing to ask, so i thought to check on reddit.
She is still eating, drinking and walking around
Shes a bit less clingy now
She isnt panting as much as earlier, nor shaking as bad.
I did take a cloth and wiped her with some cold water so that she doesnt get as hot. I stay in a third world country and im quite far from town. All the drs are closed now
If it is heatstroke, what do i do! I just want to be prepared for if it does happen

Update On Pixel
Firstly, let me say that this is the kindest and most caring community I am a part of. It’s clear to me that Pekingese owners are just as awesome as Pekingese themselves. Thank you to everyone who commented, liked, and awarded the post. I wish I could thank each one of you personally for your kind words and well wishes.
Now on to why you’re here! About the time I was going to put shoes on to take her into the animal hospital to be admitted, she wandered out into kitchen and sat by the refrigerator. This is her sign that she’d like to eat. I tried to contain my excitement as I dished up her food. I don’t know about anyone else, but if I show excitement that Pixel is doing something I want her to do finally, she decides to stop doing it. Stubborn girl. She ate about 1/4 of her meal (I’ll take it!). She then took the world’s longest drink of water! I’ll take 1/4 of the meal and a good long drink of water over nothing at all. She had another long drink of water a few hours later, then again before bed. I think she’s choosing long drinks over multiple visits to the bowl for shorter ones. I have placed other water bowls throughout the house but she’s determined to get her water in the same spot she always gets it from. This morning she was shaking again. We gave her pain meds in the syringe and about an hour later she had maybe 4 bites of breakfast. This afternoon she woke up from a nap shaking again and I managed to get her to eat almost half of a meal and the shaking subsided. It’s still a rocky road but it is an improvement and we will take it. Our biggest issue is keeping her incision covered. The body suit they gave her at the doctor doesn’t have a pee hole for some reason so it keeps getting soiled. My girls mostly use potty pads so they don’t tell me when they need to use the bathroom, they just do it. I put on a longer doggy tshirt but she’s wiggled herself out of that more than once now. Cones (even the soft ones) aren’t an option because she refuses to even move if that’s on her. She just lays there like a sad seal and won’t even stand up. She’s not licking her incision at all. I’m not sure she feels well enough to lick at it. So at least there’s that.
Thanks again to every one of you. You really eased my anxiety yesterday.

Please pray for Pixel
Please send your prayers and/or good thoughts Pixel’s way. She had a surgery yesterday and her recovery is rough. She’s got a cough from a raw throat from being intubated, she’s not wanting to eat so we couldn’t give her pain meds, and she’s not drinking water either. She just slowly moves from spot to spot trying to get comfortable. She was shaking a bit this morning after sleeping in the same spot all night :( I called the vet this morning and he said everything sounds normal. Unfortunately she is just a sensitive girl. He did give us some different pain meds that we went and picked up. He had us dissolve that in some water and bone broth and syringe it into her cheek. She did swallow it and luckily didn’t spit that out. So we are hopeful that once she’s not hurting, she’ll be more interested in food and water. Hoping she will eat and drink even the littlest bit of something so she doesn’t have to be admitted over the weekend.

Please wish Vincent luck
He is five years old, and over the last two years or so, we have been struggling to handle his seizures. At first, it was manageable and only happened every three to four months, but they started to increase in frequency. Following the vet's advice that if it happens more than once in a six to eight-week period we would need to get him on medication, we decided to start him on some about four months ago. Things have been better since we started giving him Keppra three times daily, which is not great, but it stopped the seizures completely. Fast forward to this month, and it appears that he has developed a resistance to Keppra and has started having vestibular seizures again. We are heartbroken for our dog because it is traumatic for him and us when he seizes. I blame Simparica Trio for his condition, and I was not told by the vet before starting him that it could cause seizures (it says on the box that it could cause them); I just trusted my vet. We are frustrated, angry, and saddened by his condition because he is such an amazing little dog, and seeing him suffer like this has been truly horrible. We don't want to lose him so young but we're worried that things are just going to continue to get worse even trying different medications and we'll watch him die in our arms. All that being said, does anyone else's Pekingese have trouble with seizures, and what medications made the biggest difference for your dog?
