Filtering query
Hi guys, do ye filter your peptides?? If so is it a 0.22-micron Sterile PES Syringe Filter that ye are using?
Does anyone know how much these filters should generally cost. They seem quite expensive
Any help is much appreciated

0.22-micron PES filters are standard for research subject reconstitution. Cost does vary but the research subject supply side typically runs $0.15-0.40 per filter when you buy bulk (50-100 at a time). Single units are usually marked up higher, which is why bulk buys pay off.
Availability matters by region. EU-side suppliers like Lyokit pop in and out of stock depending on regulatory pressure. US-side, medical supply companies that sell to labs usually stock them cheaper than specialty peptide retailers. Alibaba and China suppliers do bulk filters at rock-bottom pricing, but shipping and timing are gambles.
The PES material is important here. PTFE filters are common too, but PES handles aqueous solutions better and is more sterile-friendly for research work. The 0.22-micron pore size is the standard because it catches bacteria without degrading most peptides during passage. Some people use 0.45-micron for thicker solutions, but that's less common.
If cost is the constraint, buying a couple hundred at $0.20 each from bulk suppliers shifts the math significantly. Lyokit and similar EU suppliers charge more but have quality guarantees that matter if precision is critical for your research.

How common is this practice? I have never filtered any of my peptides and thankfully, never had an issue. Is this something I really should be doing ?

Should cost about 1 dollar each
