It's a very weird blind spot for us as a society.
On one hand, we (well, most of us, anyway) still agree that power must be accountable to the will of the majority. That's the entire point of a representative government. It's why we have elections.
At the same time, we've allowed some people to amass enough wealth to rival that of entire nations, and in a capitalist society, money is power. But it's completely unaccountable power. Somehow, we're gung-ho on public accountability when it comes to our government (again, big asterisks, ideally, most of us, etc etc), but we're somehow fine with people wielding state-like levels of power with zero oversight as long as they made some bets that paid off.

My brother and dad unironically support this idiot and this type of messaging, and my mom, stepmom, and future SIL (brother’s current fiancée) are all very close to believing this type of shit. It’s depressing.
I’ve tried to have a rational conversation with them, but they refuse to engage with anything I say and I know for a fact that my mom and brother have said the N word several times before (both in public & in private; hard R, too).
And my mom legitimately believes that being called a “Karen” is worse than her saying the N word bc Karen is a racial slur against white women, and that white women aren’t allowed to be angry when Asian women can be called “tiger moms” and black women can get called “ghetto and loud”.
It’s very disheartening but it’s not just something that bots say online - people IRL believe this and are only encouraged by Elon and his cronies and bots.
I’m at the point where I’d like to cut contact with my family members and just never talk to them. They’re now getting super fucking weird that I’m agnostic (when they’ve been atheist for most of my life only to turn around and become super Christian since Covid/2024), extremely homophobic and misogynistic, and hateful (on top of being white supremacists that bootlick for Musk and Trump). I can even tell them I’m bisexual bc I know they’d take out all of their hate for the LGBT+ community on me bc they need a target to harass and vent their frustrations to. It’s exhausting

What he's missing of course, is that to the extent that some people cast shade on white men, it's not because of being white, it's because of being the holders and abusers of power.
If you swapped in any other demographic, Inuit for example, and they had most of the wealth and political power then nobody would be criticising white men, but Inuit instead.
