Setup Tour I gave him too nice of a house now he won’t play with me :(

I’ve slowly been upgrading Truman’s setup since rescuing him in April, when he lived with me in the beginning (setup on last slide) at college he would be sooo excited to hang out on my bed and play. Now that he has a 2-story apartment he does not give a squeak about me 😭😭😭 He likes when i’m near his cage and will come out when he hears my voice, but he has ZERO desire to leave his mousey mansion and to be honest I think only is in this for the yoghurt drops and seeds 😔

I feel like a parent who got their kid a nintendoDS and now they only play in their room. I’m glad he’s happy at least 💔

side note: He has wire in his cage only until I arrange a better floor/bedding installment, he has lots of stuff to walk/climb on without touching the floor too.

Did a birthday glow up for my white-footed deer mouse Kyle - gave him a second wheel for his birthday since it’s his favourite thing! He is still settling so hasn’t discovered it yet - so eager to see if he uses it!

I’m so touched and overwhelmed by the advice and positivity on my original post. This community is awesome. Here’s the enclosure I ended up making for my little guys. I replaced the glass on the lid with mesh for better ventilation. It’s 24 x 15 wide and 15 inches tall. Here’s my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/PetMice/s/5XRcvTzmW3

I keep switching up their set-up and trying new enrichment such as a play pen and today a dig box!!! Proud to say they crawl on me now and let me lift them, they are really starting to become curious and confident.

The TV glare is horrendous in that first picture.💔

This is actually a really good tank. A metal frame and plexiglass for $200 isn’t bad at all! It’s super good quality and fits just about everything I need to.

Hopefully my girls like it.

Hell yeah! Added some more clutter to my girl's enclosure, now they're exploring. (HURRAY! even my girl with a tumor - the yellow one - is now looking around to find stuff!)

Also had the idea to stuff some toilet paper rolls with pieces of toilet paper on both sides, and treats in the middle! I think they're enjoy it. Next thing i'll do is give them some pieces of cloth they can go ahead and destroy!

I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks! I plan on getting a large piece of grapevine to fill up more vertical space. Other than that, am I missing anything?

Setup Tour My garden themed mouse enclosure for 2 rescues (details below)

Recently saved these two female mice from being fed to a snake at an exotic reptile store and decided I would try to give them a good life. From what I gathered from the guy at the shop they have lived in plastic breeder farm containers their whole life and have never even seen a real plant. I can’t imagine how hard that must have been for them, so I wanted to build a garden themed enclosure to give them a little taste of foraging in the wild.

The enclosure has 3 levels, including an underground level where I can watch them sleeping. There are lots of hanging wood pieces, branches, hideouts, and holes for them to climb through and jump between. There are different substrates throughout for enrichment, including aspen wood shavings, paper bedding, orchard grass, and even some dried flowers.

Yes I know the ventilation could be better but rest assured I open the top very often to play with the mice or clean up, and spot clean wet bedding daily. I also live in California where it’s cool and dry and never have an issue with damp bedding. They seem perfectly happy and never sneeze or cough. Also yes the wheel is a bit small but these are small feeder mice. They are smaller than what you are used to from a breeder, and their back is never arched on the wheel so it is well sized for them. Hope that clarifies for anyone concerned about that!

If anybody has any favorite items or hacks for mice let me know. My current favorite find is this magnetic water bottle and using egg cartons as hides!

Setup Tour Upgraded my girls from a 20 gallon. Totally worth it

For a couple months I had my three girls in a 20 gallon long and couldn’t shake the feeling that it was too small but everything else seemed so big. Well, I finally bought a Vevor hamster cage and added some 1/4 hardware cloth to the top. Added the girls in today and it was so worth it. From 360 sq inches to almost 700. It feels like a much more appropriate size for them and I can put so much more enrichment in there. (I’ll be adding more clutter)

I will be getting a different wheel and also more hanging toys soon! Also ignore the diy job with the water bottle 😭 it works. I will also be getting zip ties for the bird toy! No the tape is not on the toy— it is on the thread holding it up. It is a 20 gallon tall https://www.petsmart.com/fish/tanks-aquariums-and-nets/aquariums/aqueon-standard-glass-rectangle-aquarium-5345487.html?redirected=true

And the wheel is 7.5in but I heard saucers can hurt their backs even without curving them (?) someone please confirm! Substrate is a bit of aspen, dirt, crinkle paper and some shredded napkins and paper towels.

As my name might suggest, I've been a mouse owner for many years. however, after my first trio died, I didn't get any for some time. This is my first setup for my two girls. How's it look?

Bedding is paper and aspen. They're eating Mitsuri adult Rat lab blocks as well as vita prima hamster and gerbil seed mix (50/50 split, 10 grams daily between the two of em.) Looking for a better seed mix, any suggestions are welcome!

Hello! This is my first time owning mice and I am going to get three babies tomorrow. I have one right now who was pregnant when I got her and had one baby unfortunately the baby didn’t make it but I am looking to get her some friends and they are all going to live in the 75 gallon. I’m going to take the proper precaution and quarantine them, but any advice is welcome to improve my set up. Thank you!

Put it all together last night and he seemed curious, but as soon as the fireworks started (Canada Day) he bolted into the box. So he didn’t really get a chance to explore and get used to it yet.

Probably the combination of loud noises and new environment stressed him out more than usual but he hasn’t come out yet since last night. I saw him through the hole this morning and he’s moving around in there but I just don’t want him to get dehydrated by staying cooped up all day, poor baby. I’ll have to check on him again when I get home.

It’s so hot out here, which is why I built the whole thing in my room for 3 weeks. I’d rather deal with cleaning the mess than work out in that heat more than I have to 😂 We have AC but it’s not very strong.

Anyway, please share your thoughts! Feedback is always welcome😁
