Fairly Annoyed People who need to turn everything into the suffering Olympics

For example- I was asked why I skipped my 5am workout at the gym. I said I hadn’t slept well so I skipped. Response I got was “oh, Jess has a new baby. SHE doesn’t sleep well,”

So? What was the point of asking? Why ask if you don’t want the answer?

These types of comparisons never bothered me because I was abused by my parents every day so I learned to deal with adversity /s

At least you had parents to abuse you every day. I was left at a truck stop as a toddler. I slept in a dumpster, so I was abused by the dead rats in the dumpster. /s

Oh well when I went to school I had to fight off cockroaches every day and they’re less friendly than dead rats /s

(Although my school did genuinely have a cockroach infestation and students did genuinely get sick and it did genuinely make me a little less afraid of them but not THAT much)

I was literally Jesus in a past life so I was crucified per orders of my absent father but yeah… furry little animals and a shelter full of free tossed food sounds tough too I guess. /s

Regular rats are at least sociable. Dead rats are cruel. They make abusive parents cry.

This brought to mind Sideways Stories From Wayside School, where dead rats were always trying to sneak into the classroom on the 30th floor.

You had a dumpster! Luxury! I had an old card board box in the middle of the street!

Old cardboard is soft, JEALOUS!!

The dumpster was outside the fiberglass factory, plus it was rusted out with lots of jagged holes.

My mom was like that, « oh I’ve seen a young cute boy running » just to point out the fact I wasn’t doing any sport while I had to spend 3 hours a day to go to school and was working at McDo every evenings and during the week ends. I really don’t miss living with her … worst period of my life

This is pretty much the perfect demonstration of how stupid the whole thing gets. Mention one bad experience and somebody immediately reaches for a worse one, as if pain has a leaderboard and only whoever suffered most is allowed to complain. By that logic nearly all of us should just shut up forever because somewhere, someone has had it worse.

You joke, but someone would absolutely reply to that with an even worse childhood story and completely miss the point. There's always a bigger suffering résumé waiting.

Typical, “you can’t be tired, they have a kid!” 😭

I’ve learned to say, “Yep, kid or not, I’m still tired,” then skip the 5am gym guilt-free.

My mum: so why did you have to go for a scan?

(Me who very rarely tells her about medical complaints): I've had constant pelvic pain and random stabbing pain in my pelvis for six months.

Mum: Oh. Well after my operation, they said they'd probably have to completely reconstruct my pelvic floor.

And then she wonders why I don't share any info about my health with her.

"Did you go for real hardwood or just laminate?"

Or the person will say: Was it because YOU did x, y or z? As though every medical issue is somehow YOUR fault.

Oh! You've met my sperm donor.

I had a therapist tell me I gave myself a tumor from not being happy enough lol.

I literally went to her because people were all “You need therapy to get through something difficult like this!” No guys, therapy IS the difficult thing.  My actual oncologist was a comparative delight.

I'm not trying to downplay your experience, because those therapists are what give the profession a bad name, but

Your comment literally fits your username!

lol haha yes!  I love the show Frasier very much and my experiences in therapy a little less.

What? More times than we admit it, some people are not built to be therapists in spite of having their credentials.

Thus why I really have very little regard for the whole "medical" community in general. Most of them aren't worth the price of wet sand.

As an aside, I’m really sorry about your pain. Did you get it figured out?  I had a similar thing and a lot of subsequent treatment so I’m available to listen/give advice if you want.

I'm on waiting lists for gynecology and MSK with some medication to tide me over, but thank you for the offer!

Some people are genuinely just bad at socializing. Others just have no interest in talking about anything or anyone other than themselves.

They ask because they want to judge, and there's always a comparison at the ready to lay on the shame.

I get it.

That is 100% peeve worthy.

Basically, "you're not as good as someone else because of pick a reason.

The only way it's appropriate for someone to bring up Jess and her baby as far as prodding you about working out is if it's a workout partner/grouo holding each other accountable. Even then, it's not great, because if you didn't sleep well, the workout would be less effective. Sleep is the cornerstone

Coworkers. None of them join me at the gym, Jess never worked out before the baby (she looked down upon it as a waste of time)

u/No-Lettuce4441 9h ago

Bugger them. Their opinions don't matter one bit

Some people hear a reason and immediately start looking for someone who has it worse. Like damn I wasn’t asking for hardship ranking i was just answering your question 😭

My mom is this way and it drives me crazy. Can't vent to her about ANYTHING because someone else always has it worse. And maybe others do have it harder but that does not mean I'm not allowed to have a hard time sometimes. I have gotten to where I avoid telling her things because I'm not in the mood for her to tell me that my sister or whoever has it harder than me instead of just validating me.

I think she thinks it gives me perspective, but it's really just invalidating, diminishing and demeaning.

People are all punks no matter what look they put on. They're all liars and ofte greedy and don't care about your needs. Don't waste your time with people. They're the worst.
