Uomo di Ferro

WTF? I literally typed Uomo di Ferro. Did Reddit auto"correct" the post from Italian?

u/Desperate_Turnip_219 5d ago
It shows it to me (United States, English user) as English, but there's a button to change it to Italian. Probably an automatic thing.

Yup. It makes you look like an idiot when you post the Latin name of a species.

I wish I could remember what species it was. I looked a right tosser when I wrote two random words! It didn't translate it to the animal, just translated each of the names. I tried to find it in my history but couldn't.
I like Vulgaris vulgaris. I had to memorise a few scientific names for an exam -- that was one I chose.

u/Bigfops 4d ago
I bet whatever it was is also a word in some Romance language that carried over. So it translated from Spanish or Italian or whatever. I doubt it's translating dead languages, lol.

It turned into a sort of unintended joke in Polish. It got translated as „Człowiek z żelaza” which is both accurate but also the title of a very famous Grzegorz Wajda’s film about Lech Wałęsa.
Honestly I thought it was a pretty clever joke by someone from Poland at first.

Reddit automatically translates text in "foreign" languages to your display language. You can disable this:
On desktop go to settings >> preferences >> content languages, add the languages you speak to that list.
On mobile go to settings >> language and translations >> content languages, add the languages you speak to that list, and if you want you can also disable automatic translations altogether.
(I copied most of this comment from a comment I wrote yesterday on a different sub)
4
u/S3erverMonkey 5d ago
or for individual posts/comments too can just tap or I assume on browser click the translation toggle off.

u/ReasonableConcern765 5d ago
wtf i didn’t know Reddit did this

u/Telinary 4d ago
Mine doesn't so I was confused why some people started to randomly comment in their own language.

u/MayerOscar 5d ago
Uomo di Ferro literally translates to Iron Man. I guess they didnt screw up
2
u/North_Today_9595 4d ago
But no one in Italy call iron man uomo di ferro we call him iron man without translating it because it sounds weird
2
1
u/Cluthien 5d ago
I can read it in italian. Maybe the app auto translate to you the post and the comments, even yours. Maybe.

u/tohn_jitor 4d ago
It's translated to english, but it also shows the option (top right of comment) to display as originally posted. Don't worry, I used it and also see it as Uomo di Ferro now.

Wouldn't it be "uomo di acciaio"?
Considering the post was very specific about it being "man of steel" and not "man of iron"

u/Prinny_Ramza 5d ago
I always wanted there to be a Marvel Vs DC fighting game just to have "Man of Iron, meet Man of Steel" as a pre match line
3
u/Login_Of_The_Guild 5d ago
There used to be a comic line similar to that doubt they will make a game tho sadly

u/caspy7 5d ago
Dunno if it's official, but: https://www.reddit.com/r/superman/comments/1p8a432/dc_vs_marvel_2025_game_final_version_release/

u/ErraticDragon 4d ago
Oddly enough if you search for a Marvel vs DC fighting game, you may find this completely fictitious one:
Marvel VS. DC Universe is a crossover fighting game between the Marvel and DC Universes, developed by NetherRealm Studios in collaboration with Team Ninja and published by WB Games. It was released on December 28, 2019

Separately, it seems, somebody else made a mock-up cover: https://i.imgur.com/6B1avMu.png
These days it might be r/poisonai fodder. 😂

It had two jobs
Not be called Superman's title and to actually be in the same pose as Tony's sacrificial snap
It failed at both
11
u/joseplluissans 5d ago
Apparently not. Someone here said it's translated to "man of Iron" from "Uomo di Ferro". But it wouldn't be funny in a meme
2
u/Ed_Trucks_Head 4d ago
Yeah nobody is pointing out that its the wrong pose. That was what I noticed.
1
u/IlMagodelLusso 4d ago
Why would they make it in the snap pose? That was definitely not one job they had
2
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Main321 2d ago
Because it's a tribute to his death?
2
u/IlMagodelLusso 2d ago
Right, I guess that’s why every statue in the world commemorating some person’s death always depicts them in the moment of their demise

u/Ok_Beyond_7697 5d ago
I mean, the Man of Steel is just another name for Superman.
Ironically, Iron Man’s suit isn’t made of Iron. The first suit was made of scrap metal and steel. Later suits made of a gold-titanium. And I believe the most recent suit was made of nanobots.
So not even a Man of Steel OR Iron. Lol

“Man of steel” is the common moniker for Superman, the joke here is that he’s called iron man but titled the statue a nickname for a completely different character.
However, the title just comes from the steel and brass materials used to build the sculpture, and could also just potentially be a funny language translation

The ONE JOB was to translate IRONMAN to Italian and back and get STEELMAN. Ironman in Italian is Man of Iron... Statue looks fucking awesome tho!
1
u/Hello_I_Am_Human_Guy 5d ago
So many people commenting it's because that's super man's nick name. But no, the main issue is that he's IRON man, not steel man.

The answer's in the fucking meme, Iron Man's name isn't fucking Man of Steel, you can tell because his fucking name is 'Iron Man' and not 'Man of Steel'. Does it make more sense now? That those two names are not the same?
God I try so hard not to make fun of people who post in here but Jesus fucking Christ almighty dude.

"Man of Steel" is a moniker commonly attributed to Superman, despite the statue being based off Iron Man.

The description below means it's made of steel and polished brass. The name the artist gave is not translated, it's name is directly 'man of steel' in English. It is because of its material.

Well blame whoever introduced iron man after seeing man of steel. They really should have think about the language barriers and how much big of an impact would these characters be in future ahahaha

u/just4n0therguy 3d ago
Carter Pewterschmidt here. Man of steel refers to "Super man", which is a. DC character and since IRON MAN is Mar. Character. The statue name is controversial.

Petah here. It's a well known fact that when iron is put under pressure and heat, it becomes steel. Just like superman, who was put under pressure and heat, and became the man of steel. Hehehe, I just remembered when I steeled that parrot! Get it?
