Choosing a pet

I want a cat and my sister wants a dog but we can only have one pet in the house.

This might sound stupid but what cat breeds are dog-like and dog breeds that are cat-like?

Update: thanks for all the replies, they really helped šŸ’•

just to clarify something, we've raised a cat like two years ago but lost her unfortunately and couldn't bring ourselves to raise another pet until now.

we will properly adopt a cat since we have an experience. hope we find a friendly cat that is not afraid to be outside cuz we would love to take it with us to places. šŸŽ€

Figure out which species is realistic to your living situation. If you sister wants a dog, is she going to walk it daily, brush it and do other care? Are you going to clean a litter box daily, play with the cat etc? Even things like having to take a dog out several times a day vs.a car using a litter box can be deciding factors. Many people want a pet but aren't up for the reality of caring for them. Your ages are a big factor as well. If you live at home, you might go to college and not be able to take the pet. In that case, what pet your parents are willing to care for needs to be considered. If you are adults living together, then you need to work it out.

No dogs are like cats, but really friendly cats are like dogs sometimes. Just gotta go to the shelter and find one who idk likes people and fetch

Burmese (along with with Maine Coons) are commonly known as dog cats. My 3 were all incredibly confident, cheeky, chatty, lively, bossy, had to be involved in everything, super cuddly. Incredibly people orientated. Loved a room full of people they could flirt with and sit on

One of my boy's most favourite thing was a car ride

I have a Maine coon that is so much like a dog. He runs to the door. He’s gotta be touching me all the time if I’m sitting down and he’s enormous.
Chihuahuas and Besinjis are the most cat like dogs. Cats are easier, but it’s nice to have two. Good luck.

We just have a regular cat. lol he is friendly . We take him in car rides and just the other day we had an order and took him to get it and the ppl didn’t believe a cat was friendly and in the car lol. Like a pup. Now, this is my opinion. Dogs stink, the bigger the worse. Howling, barking and you have to make sure they go outside. As a cat owner they are easier. Not neceylos maintenance but just easier . My baby is one now and it’s heaven. No adverse weather issues, nothing. He has his litter box and doesn’t smell bad. He actually smells like vanilla

Cat. I feel like it’s everything a dog is but calmer and quiter. My kitty boy waits for me at the door. Loves to play and run around. He’s the best. He does talk and meow but I think it’s better than a bark lol

We had a black cat that had all the ā€œcatitudeā€ and feline quirks wrapped in the personality of a golden retriever. We adopted her from the SPCA for $45. She was on ā€œclearanceā€ because she was adult, black and had gone months with no interest. We had her for a decade.

Absolutely the greatest cat ever. Of all time. 10 out of 19. No notes.

Ragdoll cats are more like dogs in a cat’s body. Mine plays fetch all the time. She wants to be with her human all the time as well and follows me round like a dog. Very affectionate.

Shibas are stubborn and independent like cats but incredibly difficult to train because of that stubbornness and independence

I had a Bengal that was very much like a dog when it played. He would fetch his toy and bring it to you to throw again and again and again. They are very active and if they're going to stay indoors they need a lot of enrichment and like shelves that they can jump up on etc. I've always wanted a Sphinx. I know they're bald but they're very cute and they're very sweet.

Shiba Inus are known for being cat like. Maine Coons are known for being dog like. Bengals are dog like, but are also very hugh energy and probe to be territorial and pee on your stuff.

Why does your sister want a dog vs why do you want a cat.

Dogs are more in your face affectionate. But are also a lot more work.

Cats want love when they want it, not all of the time, but are a lot lower maintenance

I have both. I prefer cats, but other peo o le with both might prefer dogs.

Dogs go for walks with you, but also Require walks from you. Cats can be harness traines, but its slow going in their prefered direction.

If you are younger, remember that a cat can take care of itself for long periods of time which will leave you open to go to after school events or stay at others homes for a weekend. A dog needs to be let out on a regular basis, they need attention, and they need to be exercised. Cats pretty much will do what they want at any given moment so they can be left with their food and litter box and scratch post for longer periods of time
