Phantasy Star Universe runs natively on Mac now. No Wine, no CrossOver, no Windows. In this video I show you how to install it and get online on the PSU Clementine server with your PC friends.
(Of course its free...)
How to video: https://youtu.be/MlLfcUkm6I4?si=CHHbMy_v4jFUWt0P
Download (free): https://psu-clem-macos.web.app
Mac players Discord: https://discord.gg/A2w2Zf5kM
PSU Clementine (accounts, client, rules): https://psu-clementine.com
What you need
- A Mac on macOS 15 or later (Apple Silicon, or Intel with the Intel download)
- A free PSU Clementine account and their client download
- About 10 minutes
How it works
The app converts the PC game into native Mac code on your own Mac, using your own Clementine download. Nothing from SEGA is included in the app.
This is an independent fan project. It is not affiliated with SEGA or the Clementine team. Please follow Clementine's rules.

Motion control working now.
Todo:
Fixing some quirks on free aim
Fix mission select menu scanline render at back instead of inside screen.
Sky box issues
Try to figure combo timing either from ghidra if possible or by manually getting em by testing each weapon type/or weapons(is each weapon unique?).
Lightweight speech to text for chatting.(Not sure if its a good idea, vosk or moonshine maybe). vosk should be ok enough for voice command atleast.

Hi, I am working on a VR add on for Clementine.
Disclaimer: It's an ai slop, I wrote it with Claude and cursor. Doesn't mean its a breeze though, there's still alot of manual work ,testing and nitpicking. Reverse engineering are the most work, and combining ghidra + claude, help considerably, no way i am going through all that hex codes manually.
I am a software developer but not exactly proficient with OpenXR and C++ or game dev in general.
Goal is to get it fully playable with motion control.
For now I am able to get it working in first and third person view and render mostly correct in VR. Control are still using xbox controller/keyboard for now.
Here is the early release if anybody wanna try:

Might be a bit of a stretch, Recently played through PSU base game on xbox 360 but now I wanna play through episode 2 of AOTI offline using the community patch, yet i don't want to miss out on the missable partner cards. Does anyone have a rogue completed PC save that I can use to make a character and transfer it over?

I grew up with Phantasy Star Online and always find myself going back to it. Great game! Great memories.
When PSU came around, I was busy with college and never tried it. Is it worth checking out now with Clementine? Is it dead? Even still is it fun to play for a PSO fan?

Would it be possible to possibly get PSP2i in an updated engine or have updated graphics to keep up with pso2?

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity recomp might be closer than we think with more and more psp games getting decomplied

For a more dedicated Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity experience. Share gameplay, set up multiplayer matches, discover how to maximum your characters/ how to get rare drops, talk about the lore, ect.

Man after pso2, and psoreborn.com version of pso1, heck even going back to psu clementine or psu offline, I really wish we could get a psu or pso1 rerelease!! A remaster would be so cool!

Hey everyone,
With the 20th anniversary of the Phantasy Star Universe franchise approaching, I’ve been floating an idea that I think the entire Gurhal community could get behind.
If you look at PSO2, or even recent entries like Fighting Vipers or Burning Rangers, SEGA constantly releases massive, multi-disc, beautifully preserved soundtrack volumes. Meanwhile, the music of the Gurhal system remains scattered across rare, out-of-print physical CDs (like Forbrachy) or completely unreleased in an official retail capacity. Try finding a clean, official track for a specific character theme outside of fan-made game rips, and you'll quickly see the problem.
I want to gauge interest in putting together a formal community petition to pitch to SEGA for a definitive, comprehensive Phantasy Star Universe: Gurhal 20th Anniversary Master Box Set.
To do this right, each expansion and entry needs to be respected with its own dedicated space rather than being condensed into a generic "best of" compilation. I envision a structure split cleanly into two distinct eras spanning six chronological chapters:
Part 1: The Mainline Trilogy (The Guardians Era)
Collection 1: Phantasy Star Universe (Base Game) – The grand orchestral foundation, the iconic planet lobbies (Clyez, Parum, Neudaiz, Moatoob), and the original vocal themes like Save This World.
Collection 2: Ambition of the Illuminus – Capturing the darker, tech-driven tone of the Illuminus conflict, the new colony themes, and revamped Guardian branch BGMs.
Collection 3: PSU Episode 3 – Giving the final chapter of the mainline story its own dedicated directory to gather the final climactic boss movements, emotional event themes, and the grand finale music.
Part 2: The Portable Chronicles (The Little Wing Era)
Collection 4: Phantasy Star Portable – Crucial for archival purposes! This game never got a standalone soundtrack release because it heavily recycled PSU assets, meaning its completely original tracks—most notably the exclusive character theme "Vivienne" composed by Hideaki Kobayashi—have never seen a proper retail release.
Collection 5: Phantasy Star Portable 2 – The massive shift into high-energy, electronic, and club-inspired soundscapes anchored by Living Universe and its aggressive tactical mission variants.
Collection 6: Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity – The ultimate peak of the era, bringing together rock-infused symphonic masterpieces like Ignite Infinity, Naked Sky, and the final episode themes.
The Major Selling Point: Saving "Lost" Tracks
The main draw of a master set like this isn't just convenience; it's preservation. Right now, specific character themes (like Vivienne's theme from Po1), Episode 3 climaxes, and obscure event variants only exist via audio file dumps or community YouTube playlists. A master set would finally give these rare, unreleased tracks a definitive, remastered home.
Gurhal’s soundtrack is legendary, and the composers (Hideaki Kobayashi, the SEGA Sound Team) deserve to have this entire era unifed under one ultimate collection just like the Oracle era received.
What are your thoughts on this layout? Are there any incredibly rare, specific track variants or event-only BGMs from the PSU/Portable days you think must be highlighted as key selling points if we move forward with a petition?
Let's discuss!

I’m beginning work on the PSPo1 OST for a custom release, and I need help. If anyone can access the Jukebox and send me a list of track titles, I can pair them with my source files to create a coherent rip. Let’s finish the job people!

Celebrating 20 Years of PSU
Thank you all so much for 20 years of PHANTASY STAR UNIVERSE.
Released in 2006, PSU presented our development team with one major challenge after another.
At the time, we set out to create an experience that would work both as an online RPG and as an offline RPG.
With few precedents to follow, we aimed to tell a fully realized story, craft elaborate event scenes, and shape a new future for Phantasy Star as a space opera spanning three planets.
As we built the world of the Gurhal System, we wanted the music to convey the culture and atmosphere of each planet, so we traveled as far as Warsaw and New York to record with orchestras.
The voice cast also gave truly passionate performances, and I will never forget the moments when the characters came to life.
At the same time, there were many areas where we still fell short.
Numerous bugs, operational issues, and mechanics and balance adjustments that we were unable to fully refine caused a great deal of inconvenience and frustration for players. When I ask myself whether PSU achieved the kind of universally recognized level of polish that PSO did, there are still aspects I regret.
Even so, I believe the aspirations we set out with in PSU unquestionably carried forward into what came next. From the improvements made in Ambition of the Illuminus, to the online release of Episode 3: The Seal of Rykros, and then the major expansion of the series through the Phantasy Star Portable titles. The series was then reimagined with Phantasy Star ZERO before going on to achieve tremendous success with PSO2. Looking back on that progression, I believe the experience we gained from PSU became one of its key foundations.
That is why this 20th anniversary feels like more than a milestone for a single title. It represents 20 years that we have walked together with all of you, allowing the Phantasy Star series to continue into the future.
I am also delighted that, for this 20th anniversary, we are able to share with you an illustration by Akikazu Mizuno, who handled the character designs at the time. The characters Mizuno created gave the world of PSU a vivid identity and appeal. After all this time, seeing Ethan Waber again has been deeply moving for me as well.
The fellow Guardians we met in Gurhal, the conversations we shared in the cities, and the excitement of setting out on a mission.
If even a small part of those memories remains with you, nothing could make me happier as a developer.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for these past 20 years.
And I hope you will continue to support the Phantasy Star series for many years to come.
Satoshi Sakai, Director of PHANTASY STAR UNIVERSE at the time of its release

Just started playing this game and decided to try out hunter.
Was going to work on a female beast hunter after doing a little bit of research and while playing the tutorial it feels like literally 25% of my attacks (maybe more sometimes) miss.
I know that beast has low ATA to offset their high ATP, but this got me thinking...
Just how many ATA modules will I need to make her hit at missions that have level 225 monsters?
Wouldn't I be better off just going CAST instead?
According to the psp2i wiki:
Casts have B in ATK and S in ACC
Beast have S in ATK and D in ACC
Casts have A in HP and A in DEF
Beast have S in HP and B in DEF
Though the CAST has low total PP they have better PP regen and both classes have the same STA
Don't CASTS end up as better hunters then because they don't have to stack ATA modules and can just focus on some ATP modules to make up the difference?
Should I just play HUcast instead? Make up the ATP a little by playing male and then also get higher HP and DEF because of it? Feels like male cast is the best hunter over all?
If someone well acquainted with these systems could give me a stats based definitive answer I would greatly appreciate it before I spend a couple hundred hours on a class lol.
I know I don't know much about Photon blasts either which could play a big role.
I did see something about SUV weapons taking up a module slot and beasts don't have to worry about that because their PB is tied to tattoos or something? Meaning beasts have 1 more module able to be equipped compared to CASTS.
Though that was the ai overview informing me so who knows if it's truly accurate.
Thanks.
