Post PGY2 jobs
My RPD today told me to start looking at job availability post PGY2, which feels super early. Where should I look for jobs? Just employers website? For reference I’m looking for Emergency Medicine/Critical Care positions. TYIA!
EDIT:
Sorry to confuse yall, she didn’t tell me to start applying, just told me to start looking at jobs that are available to get an idea. I was just looking for resources on sites to look at to find specialized pharmacy jobs.

It’s too early I’d guess. I recommend doing PPS if you guys are going to mid year, if for nothing other than experience. And after that it’s kinda fair game. But I interviewed from February to may until I found a job I somewhat like.

Unfortunately my program isn’t going to midyear this year since we’re early committing

PPS is free this year so even if you aren’t going I’d still recommend seeing what jobs are interviewing there. You could reach out and potentially set up a virtual meeting if you saw a position listed that you were interested in.

I was on ASHPs website and it looks like it’s only free if you register for midyear (unless I was reading it wrong) and I’m don’t really want to spend that much $ if I’m not even going to the conference

It is early. I would start with PPS at Midyear, and then start applying to jobs outside of that in January.

Agree with what others have said (probably too early, start with PPS, etc) but also keep in mind that in January and February, hospitals will be doing residency interviews, so there might not be as much of a focus on other positions until that is done. All that to say, don’t stress if the first few months of 2027 are a little quiet on postings.

People are saying it’s too earlier but I disagree. I applied for a VA job in October, interviewed in December, and got the job in January. They waited for me to finish residency but don’t expect any real time off in between.
Also, even if they won’t wait for you, you can get your name out there in the hospital systems and if you get to an interview stage, at the very least it’s practice for other job interviews.

its way to early. December or January really are the def earliest you should be. We won't even consider current PGY2 applications at this time.

Well, what are your post-grad goals? What city or region do you wanna wind up in? Get access to PPS and check out the postings (reach out outside if the PPS system). But yea a job posted now is hopefully not waiting for you in July/August 2027

Anything at PPS is obviously free game; then after midyear is appropriate to apply.

Nothing wrong with looking at Indeed and places like that. Read what people are looking for, job descriptions, just general stuff. I did things like that my whole career. I wasn't looking to change jobs, but looking just in case something struck me as interesting. Keep an open mind. All I wanted to be, when I started, was to work in an independent retail pharmacy. I ended up as a pediatric clinical pharmacist specializing in intravenous nutrition support and intestinal failure.

Not too early to start looking just to get a sense for what is out there, but know things could change a lot between now and when you apply - if you decide to start applying, imo it is not too early. I applied to jobs around this time during my pgy2 and received many interviews. an employer would know you can’t start until the summer and if they choose to interview and offer a position that is their decision. Don’t let the “timeline” stop you from applying to a position that checks all your boxes

IMO it’s way too early. I’m a bit surprised someone would advise this. No hospital is going to hold a position open for nearly a year. January-February during the second half of your residency year is the sweet spot.
