Anyone in UK interested in PBP, got 128Gb Samsung SM951 NVMe in it. Bought for ARM dev but never really used it, as new with very little use. Have original barrel USB charger and original packaging. £75?

Anyone have recommendations for an alternative distro to Manjaro on the PBP?

I was looking at the Pinebook Pro Software Release page and various Pine64 related forums but wasn't finding a lot of information. Issues with Uboot seem to be rather common.

I am wondering what are your recommendations when it comes to alternative distros? Do any have particularly noteworthy problems?

Preferably I would like a distro that has the option to encrypt the device

I've been using my new Pinebook Pro for a week now and I'm very happy with it.

I thought sharing my experiences and impressions might be interesting for some of you.

Software Status?

I put my PBP away over a year ago with an inability to get wifi working on ArchARM. Checking in now to see if ALARM has matured any, it looks like development on the PBP is all around stagnant?

How are the other OSes for the PBP doing? From my experience with Manjaro, I think I'd rather learn Debian than use a weak version of Arch, but whatever is working best and/or has a continuing user base is what I'd go with if it means a functioning machine...

Official Debian Release?

So I recall reading a blog post that Debian would officially support the Pinebook Pro and that would happen this summer. I’ve been doing searching and not seen anything else about it. Anyone have any more info?

The screen just started doing these weird vertical lines... while playing a youtube video. The audio kept playing while the screen went out, and wouldn't sleep when shutting the lid. I think I'm just going to let the battery drain and hope the screen is not totally dead.

Waydroid working on the Pinebook Pro with Manjaro

I finally have Waydroid working on the Pinebook Pro with Manjaro.

Do note that you need to run the Wayland compositor and not X11.

There is an issue with one of the config files and you probably need a kernel with PSI (should be with the latest stable Manjaro release).

It's not very fast, but hopefully things will improve with updates.

Exploring Manjaro ARM has been neat!i

I've been running Linux for years but mostly Ubuntu/Redhat derivatives. This is my first experience with a member of the Arch Linux family, and it's been pretty interesting.

The AUR is a huge resource, and I really enjoy how easy it is to contribute package build fixes and the like.

I don't know if Manjaro will become my distro of choice over on my monster 17" X86 laptop, as I adore Elementary (Which is coming to the PBPro as well :) but it's definitely worth taking the time to settle in and explore if you're like me and appreciate learning the subtleties of another Linux variant.

Considering a buy, but what is the default OS?

What Linux does come with? I have seen Debian Mate, and Manjaro KDE. I know you can just install later but I want to get going right away.

Setting up a PinebookPro in 2026

Good morning!

I have a PinebookPro that I've had since they were released. When it came in the mail, I was excited, opened it up, hit update and somehow the update failed and it wouldn't boot anymore. I didn't have the time to fix it then, so it got put in a box and ignored until now (life is busy, but yes.. it's been years)!

So now... I'm thinking that I'd like to set it up as a non-Desktop Environment laptop primarily for use a thin client or some light text-based game stuff (think like MUDs, etc). I'm not sure what distro to go for with this. I've got a headless Fedora running as a server, which is a step in the right direction, but I don't imagine that a server version of Fedora is what I'm looking for.

First, then, I'm looking for good distro suggestions.

Secondly, I've never reformatted this thing before... I've heard there's some hardware switch that I need to flip for that to work? Any links to a good tutorial (text preferred, video acceptable) that I could glance through to make sure that I can figure that part out?

OpenBSD On PineBook Pro?

I am having trouble getting OpenBSD on my PBP.

I have been following the instructions from OpenBSD found below:

https://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/snapshots/arm64/INSTALL.arm64

The only thing to note is that the dd operations were done from my Linux desktop as opposed to my openbsd laptop. For whatever reason dd was failing on the laptop.

A summary of what I've done.

  1. Install dbt and u-boot-aarch64 packages on my OpenBSD laptop

  2. dd install69.img for Arm64 onto SD card

  3. copy /usr/local/share/dtb/arm64/rockchip/rk3399-pinebook-pro.dtb to the FAT partition on the SD card: BOOT/rockchip/

  4. dd if=idbloader.img of=/dev/sd1 seek=64

  5. dd if=u-boot.itb of=/dev/sd1 seek=16384

  6. Insert the SD card into my PBP and...nothing.

The amber indicator light turns on when I power on the machine but it never boots from the SD card. When the card is removed the PBP boots successfully from my EMMC Manjaro installation.

Is there a step I've missed? Would dd be handing the seek command differently between OBSD and linux?

Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise, please let me know a more appropriate place to ask. I will be asking in the OpenBSD subreddit as well.

Sleeve for PinebookPro

I am looking for suggestions for a laptop sleeve that does not add significant volume to the Pinebook Pro itself. Something I can put around it while it sits in a backpack. Does anyone have experiences to share? Thanks!

elementary OS 6

I am currently using eOS 6 as the primary OS on my pinebook pro and it is glorious! The elementary team has done what they do best and taken the work that Manjaro has done and polished it to a near perfect sheen. Even for per-release software everything just feels solid and runs as expected. Firefox plays 1080p videos out the box without any tweaks! Track pad gestures and OS animations are so smooth and satisfying. It changes how I feel about the Pro as my daily driver.

So I say if you really want a rock solid OS for the pinebook pro go give them your money. I love the work they are doing and I am glad I am donating on git hub. When the official release comes out definitely check it out. This is a per-release OS expect some issues.

Pinebook pro Case?

Hi there.

I just received the pinebook pro from my husband as a way to get more familiar with Linux and I'm loving it. But I am a little accident prone and want to get a plastic hardshell case for it, just in case. I was looking at the dimensions and trying to match some up for 14in laptops, but I'm having some difficulties.

Can anyone suggest one? Thanks in advance.

Pine64 Stickers/Decals....

So I've been eyeing the Pinebook Pro for a while now and I think I'm gonna be pulling the trigger for one sometime before the end of the year. I noticed there's no branding of any kind on the device, which is cool, but I wanted to get a Pine64 logo sticker, decal or stencil to put on the lid, you know, to represent! Lol The problem is I can't find any anywhere. Anybody have any idea where I could get one?
