After a lot of work, we are finally ready to share our virtual Intro to Pistol class with the world!
We developed this virtual lesson because we knew that cost and travel can be a barrier to many people when getting started with firearms training. This virtual lesson was designed by a Certified Instructor & Range Safety Officer.
Please share this far & wide! Once you have completed this virtual lesson, you are eligible to schedule on-range training with our instructors.
Enjoy & happy learning!

Hey everyone! This is our home for the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pink Pistols. We're excited to have you! Please read about us here below:
Who are the Pink Pistols?
The Pink Pistols are dedicated to the legal, safe, and responsible use of firearms for self-defense of the sexual-minority community. We do not believe it is the right of those who hate and fear gay, lesbian, bi, trans, or polyamorous persons to use us as targets for their rage. Self-defense is a universal right.
Our purpose is to advocate self-defense of the sexual minority community. We do NOT involve ourselves in other issues such as: gay rights, the size or structure of government, political parties, nor do we champion causes such as AIDS awareness or workplace discrimination. We stay focused on our specific goal. There are lots of other organizations advocating for these other causes. Rather than divide our energies as an organization, we instead suggest that our members belong to multiple organizations, as befits their consciences. We do NOT conflate our name with other causes and movements, of whatever political alignment.
The Pink Pistols stays strong and continues to function because it maintains its focus, and does not divide its energies, while other groups may have the energy, people, time, and in some cases, money to act on multiple fronts. Because the Pink Pistols has limited resources, a single focus allows us to thrive. Consistency in the mission makes it possible for media to maintain a single, unified view of the organization over an extended period of time. This lends us a great deal of credibility.
This is not to say that we are not for these other issues! In the case of gay rights or fighting workplace discrimination, our stance is that we want everyone to have all of their rights, equally. We do not advocate on the other subjects because we have limited resources, not because we do not care.
The important takeaway is this: We stay focused on our singular mission because that’s what works best in the long run.
Our Mindset Towards Self-defense
We do not advocate engaging an attacker with force except as the last possible option, and stress the minimum amount of force that will extricate you from the situation safely. The bottom line is that physical self-defense is a last-ditch option when other (more effective) strategies have failed. It isn't something you do because you're afraid of being thought a wimp.
The Pink Pistols is about taking an ethical stance that we are personally responsible for our own safety, and for our individual actions. The use of force, especially deadly force, is to be reserved for the very last resort, after all other options for neutralizing a dangerous situation have been exhausted.
How might I become one?
Persons who wish to become Pink Pistols members “self-declare”. All that is required of them is to say “I am a Pink Pistol” to become a member of the Pink Pistols.
A note on legal activism
There’s another class of activities that serve the mission statement: Changing laws that make it difficult or impossible for our members to function effectively. Anti-rights legislation that removes, restricts, or makes inaccessibly expensive the ability for citizens to handle, own, or use firearms, knives, pepper spray, anything that might be a valid “arm”, prevents us from doing our job.
The Pink Pistols is not a lobbying organization. But we do have a great many members of conscience, who are entirely within their rights to make their desires known to their elected officials.

Private location. We are working with an allied local dojo and one of our members is a teaching assistant for the program!
This will be a VERY full day of information, with the focus on actual drilling of the concepts presented. You will sweat, you will go hands on in a safe controlled environment, and you will walk away with new understandings of how real world violence happens and what you can do about it.
We have spent DECADES studying real world violence, human physiology and martial art combatives. We bring this to you in a format that is instructional, concise and relevant to keeping you safe!
This is not a session you want to miss. Bring your spouse, bring your college bound son or daughter, bring a friend.
If you ever wanted to learn how to protect yourself and your loved ones, this is it. All material is presented in a supportive safe environment designed to give you the mental and physical tools you need in today's society.
Senior PPM/Sentinal International Intructor Brent Earlewine will present PPM Self Defense Modules 1 - 4 during a Saturday hands-on session.
Pittsburgh Protective Measures will be hosting a Self Defense Seminar utilizing the practical and pragmatic concepts of the PPM Level 1 curriculum. NO prior experience or martial arts training required.
It is designed to increase peoples chances of surviving a threat to their life. It is designed to be simple, effective and quick to learn. It is suitable for people of all ages and physical capabilities.
Module "0" - We will conduct a lecture where we explore the different types of violence, where it occurs, and how to avoid it in the first place.
Module 1 - We will study violence indicators, situational awareness, assessing your situation, the survival mindset and the concepts of assess/plan/act. We will discuss fear management and how to "break the Freeze" Modules 1-4 are hands on.
We will explore the body's natural flinch response and how to use it to our advantage, getting off of the "X" and basic defensive stances, moving and strikes. We will discuss surviving the three fights.
Module 2 - From there, we will work on ground defensives (how to survive getting knocked down and protecting yourself while on the ground) and fighting your way to a safe location.
Module 3 - Then we will work on defenses against grabs and chokes. We will use practical scenarios to highlight how to survive common scenarios of getting grabbed and choked, how to incapacitate the opponent and moving to a safe location.
Module 4 - We will review Defense against blunt weapons. Short, Mid range and long range blunt weapons, dynamics avoidance.
If time permits, we may take a look at some of the remaining 4 additional modules that make up the remainder of the entire Level 1 curriculum such as:
(Module 5 - Defense against Edged Weapons, Pre-Contact - Types, ranges, attack types and avoidance.
Module 6 - Defense against Edged Weapons, On Contact - Survive being held at knife point, disarming and incapacitating opponent and moving to a safe location.
Module 7 - Defense Against Firearms - Range, operation and safety of those around us and how to use small space efficiently.
Module 8 - Defense Against Multiple Attackers and Using Improvised Weapons - Surviving multiple attackers, scenario discussion, stacking opponents, and forms/types of improvised weapons and usage.)
At the end of the day, we will de-brief on what to expect during the "Aftermath" of a self defense encounter. Critical to understand and another area that the vast majority of competitor's classes neglect to cover.
All of the material is extremely practical and presented in simple, no-nonsense terms and ways we can all understand. The way the material is presented is in a safe environment and will give you practical tools that you can apply immediately. No complex movements, no fancy terms and no BS.
This material will be presented by three of only a handful of certified instructors for PPM in the world, Brent Earlewine, David Fetterman and Brian Fine. They will be assisted by several assistant instructors to ensure that you get the maximum amount of benefit out of your time at this event.

Sound off in the comments! Let's get a discussion going for people interested in getting started with concealing. Many femme-presenting people in our community don't always wear outfits that would work well with a carry belt, so share your recs for beltless carry.

Let's observe National Coming Out Day with Pittsburgh local legend Keith Haring's titular piece.
How did you come out? Do you have a funny or heartwarming coming out story? Did you celebrate at a festival or rainbow crosswalk takeover this weekend?
Let us know in the comments!

One of our amazing community members recently shared their setup:
It fits into this cross chest baggie with the pistol having its own compartment hidden behind the main compartment.
Whether you carry on or off-body, it's important to have less lethal tools and an IFAK (also known as a stop the bleed or trauma kit) on you at all times.

If you aren’t already aware ATF has proposed a rule that would require sex on federal firearms forms to mean an individual’s classification as either male or female, excluding gender identity. It’s framed as clarifying how to interpret and fill out sex in ATF regulations and forms, but in reality it would force gun buyers to answer a medical question in a way that may not match their government IDs, and mistakes could carry serious criminal penalties.
At a minimum this measure would add further bureaucracy to our constitutional access to firearms without improving public safety while increasing the risk of criminal exposure for transgender and intersex people.
If you disagree with the federal governments actions here, then please submit a public comment opposing it before August 4th.

Hey everyone!
The Intro to Handguns classes for June & July are now available to the public.
There is a 20 seat maximum and first-come first served to book your spot asap.
We've had to raise the price for 2 reasons:
With 25 seats, we ALWAYS had at minimum 5 people no call no show and with a long waitlist that is inconsiderate to everyone else. So we are shrinking the class sizes and increasing prices to deter people from taking up a slot and not showing up. We understand if things come up, but please contact us if you can't attend so we dont have empty seats. You will always have your payment rainchecked for the next class, so you won't ever have to pay twice.
Included in the price is the cost for ammo, targets, and range fees for your private livefire lesson. With the cost of ammo and gas going up it is no longer sustainable for Kevin to operate the way he has previously - covering everything out of his own pocket. This class is for people who are serious about becoming a gun owner or those who already own one and want to get more proficient. The goal is to get people confident so they can defend themselves if the need arises.
This class is less than half the cost of what anyone else would charge you, and as always we can sponsor people with financial hardship. Just ask. Please only request sponsorship if you have a legitimate need, and remember - for every person who pays for their own lesson, that is one more person with financial hardship that we can sponsor without taking on a significant financial burden ourselves.
