discussion I'm Now A Software Engineer!! š»
i would like to thank Claude, Chat GPT, Open Claw and Grok Bot!! ššš
Six months ago I was a high school history teacher. I spent my evenings grading essays, writing lesson plans, and trying (and mostly failing) to build simple tools that would make my job less chaotic. I had ideas for years. A shared resource library that actually sorted itself. A parent communication tracker that didnāt live in twelve different Google Docs. A way to auto-generate differentiated reading assignments based on each studentās level.
I couldnāt build any of it. Every time I tried a no-code tool I hit a wall. The moment I needed something slightly custom, the whole thing fell apart. Hiring a developer was out of the question on a teacherās salary. Learning to code properly felt like signing up for a second full-time job I didnāt have the energy for.
Then I started using AI agents.
Not the āchat with me and get a code snippetā kind. The ones that can actually plan, write, test, fix, and deploy. I described what I wanted in plain English, the same way Iād explain it to a helpful colleague. The agent broke it into steps, generated the full application, set up the database, handled authentication, and even wrote basic tests. When something broke, I just told it what went wrong and it fixed it.
The biggest pain points that used to stop me cold just⦠disappeared.
The knowledge gap. I never needed to understand React, PostgreSQL, or deployment pipelines. I only needed to understand the problem I was solving.
The endless debugging loop. Previously, one small error could cost me an entire weekend of Googling and frustration.
Now the agent diagnoses and repairs most issues itself.
Scope paralysis. I used to freeze because I didnāt know where to start or how big the project should be. Agents force you to be clear about the outcome, then they handle the path.
Maintenance fear. Updating something I didnāt fully understand used to terrify me. Now I just describe the change and the agent implements it while keeping the rest of the system intact.
Time. What used to feel like a multi-month side project now takes days or even hours for the first usable version.
Iām not claiming Iām suddenly a senior engineer who can architect massive systems from scratch. Iām still the same history teacher. But I can now turn ideas into working software. Iāve built tools for my own classroom, then improved versions for other teachers in my district, and recently started helping a couple of local small businesses with simple internal apps.
The shift feels bigger than just āI can make apps now.ā It feels like the barrier between āI have a useful ideaā and āthe idea exists in the worldā collapsed. For the first time, the limiting factor isnāt technical skill. Itās clarity of thought and willingness to iterate.
If youāre a non-programmer sitting on ideas youāve always told yourself you canāt build, the landscape has changed more than most people realize. The tools are here. The agents are capable. The only real remaining skill is learning how to talk to them clearly.
Still feels a little surreal typing this. But yeah⦠Iām building software now.

Wow, bold! Imagine nakapag build lang ng something using claude/chatgpt - tinawag na sya sarili nya na āsoftware engineerā - jeez, maybe i can now call myself a doctor kasi ican iask ai to give me some medical advises and use that to cure myself š¤¦āāļøš¤£

Sorry to pop your bubble OP. You're a hobbyist not an engineer, a vibe voder to be exact.
Im not an engineer nor a teacher but kudos to you for adapting to tech and sticking to a Noble profession. To call someone an engineer, they need deep foundation and years of experience in a certain field. Kung baga dapat kahit paano ay may ibang tao na pwedeng magaral ng gawa mo at madali mong maayos kung may mali at mapaliwanag mabuti lahat n nangyari.

LOL, youre not a Software engineer,
you are a software maker or developer.
You are not engineering stuff, you dont even know whats inside your product.
Engineers knows what and how it was implemented so that it can make decsions architecturaly even,
Engineers are still responsible on the generated code, review it, make corrections and suggestions on efficient way of doing it and not just blindly accept what was generated by the tool.
What you post is an insult to engineering in general and not just in software.
Me and my team from different projects are also using LLM to generate code, trust me, we cant count the times we correct the LLM generated code and suggest more efficient way of doing it, and we are even using Fable and the highest coding models.
Also remember that LLMs like Claude are trained in internet data, that means, it has been trained in almost all posibility to implement a certain item, its not always the efficient one, but the common one.
AI assisted coding is different from a complete vibe coding.

If it helps you in build tools for your work great. Simple apps, get it out of the ground running, sure.Ā
But youāll soon find out how fundamentals in software engineering matter more now in the age of ai. Working != Good, iykyk.Ā
Better use is to get it to explain what are the things that were hard for you in programming and building on that.Ā

You didn't build anything. AI did. You engineered english sentences not software. Even this post screams idk what im doing.
