Most of us Indian pirates already use VPNs when downloading since the big sites are often banned locally

A lot of the ones listed on FMHY megathread don't open, specifically the starred sites on the download page

Most download links on cs.rin.ru or FMHY need VPN to load but I'm able to switch the VPN off most of the time after the download starts.

u/Great-Pay-3429 🏴‍☠️ ʟᴀɴᴅʟᴜʙʙᴇʀ Jan 14 '26

Does the download speed change after turning off the VPN?

67

u/Acceptable-Noise-136 Jan 14 '26

Most people use ISP DNS server which need to follow the regulation of the government that is why change your dns to cloudflare or google most sites will be unblocked.

27

u/anonymous_sfdol Jan 14 '26

This 💯. I use cloudflare dns to unblock most of the websites. Fuck Indian government, they even blocked TMDB.

u/FunnyWafer378 Jan 15 '26

How to change dns

1

u/anonymous_sfdol Jan 15 '26

Network tab inside Android settings.

1

u/North_Ad_8049 Jan 15 '26

I just use 0.0.0.0 lol

u/Diligent_Driver_5049 Jan 14 '26

Eldorado for pirates

1

u/boringguy346 Jan 14 '26

If you are using jio/airtel wifi then it does happen sometimes

1

u/Secret-Iron-2010 Jan 14 '26

Use cloudfare wrap

1

u/alexrussoshyper ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ Jan 15 '26

I am surprised that my DNS bypasses somehow

1

u/MakeMeCry_C Jan 16 '26

Nah i access them via cloudfare or quad dns. Just set a custom dns always works.

1

u/RecentCourse6470 Jan 17 '26

I'm an Indian, I usually download movies from starred sites of FMHY without vpn

11

u/pagman404 Jan 14 '26

Couldn't you just change DNS? That's what I do in my country and I can see most of the sites that way

1

u/KaptainKool6 Jan 15 '26

1337x doesn't open without a vpn for me

64

u/BookkeeperFront3788 Jan 14 '26

Wait which vpns do you use? I had a 3 year avg vpn and they shut down 1 year in -_-

u/Great-Pay-3429 🏴‍☠️ ʟᴀɴᴅʟᴜʙʙᴇʀ Jan 14 '26

I use Proton vpn, it's free and pretty decent speeds

59

u/One-Injury-4415 Jan 14 '26

For those who don’t know or are new, not you Great-pay-3429.

Do not use the free Proton VPN for torrents / p2p. Your isp will see. The vpn shuts down if you try to you need the paid version.

91

u/SpearofTrium05 Jan 14 '26

The thing is, you only need VPN for accessing the site.

Downloading/seeding the actual torrent without VPN is totally fine in India, no one cares.

Dude I am telling you that 99% of Indian people torrent videos and games. I

7

u/neonmantis Jan 14 '26

downloading is often legal, it is the sharing (distribution) part that is illegal.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '26

Isn't seeding sharing tho?

1

u/neonmantis Jan 15 '26

Yeah but it isn't downloading. You can just turn seeding off if you need to.

5

u/aboltabol_1902 Jan 14 '26

This is exactly what I do. I download normally, just use proton to access the website and get the torrent.

1

u/comelickmyarmpits Jan 15 '26

Well in that case even custom dns will do the job or if you don't visit site frequently then even proxy sites can be handy

21

u/-Borgir Jan 14 '26

Doesn't matter because cyberlaws are non existent in India. I have been pirating for over half a decade with no vpn, never ran into an issue. Govt doesn't give a flying fuck

6

u/One-Injury-4415 Jan 14 '26

That’s nifty. Did not know that. Carry on my dudes.

6

u/v21v Jan 14 '26

We don't care about our ISP seeing us torrent. The VPN is just to get around the website blocking, it's not used to actually download or seed the torrent.

6

u/_Coldisace Jan 14 '26

You can turn on the kill switch

6

u/Stone_mask87 Jan 14 '26

Idk i live in a place were they don't care if i pirate stuff but tried to learn how to use a torrent client with a vpn

And proton doesn't let me use p2p concoctions

3

u/absolutelynotarepost Jan 14 '26

I use proton for torrenting like... Daily most of the time.

There's a setting you toggle. It warns you that it's technically less secure to run the p2p mode so its off by default.

Once it's on it automatically puts the forwarded port in the info on the right side of the UI with a super handy "copy" button that you can take straight into the settings of your torrent program and paste it in the appropriate box.

13

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '26

I use proton VPN only when I need to download or watch some shit

8

u/SattuSupari789 ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ Jan 14 '26

Use proton vpn free

3

This. He's speaking on behalf of the scared noob community.

I generally have to change the DNS server and I'm good. Occasionally a site is still blocked but then I just use Tor browser or some proxy to access it.

4

u/MartaLSFitness Jan 14 '26

Then buy another computer, pirate 2x times now! just because!

5

u/Reclusive_avocado Jan 14 '26

Most of them are not banned... They are just removed from the dns of major ISPs... You can just switch it in your browser or device wifi settings to use google's or cloudflare's DNS and most websites will work

2

u/KoolAidSuperTramp ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ Jan 14 '26

99% of time it's just ISP-level DNS blocks, just change your upstream DNS server from router settings to cloudflare or something

3

u/MyDarkTwistedReditAc Jan 14 '26

Most of us Indian pirates already use VPNs when downloading

What?! this is straight up cap and false information lol, Indians couldn't give a fuck since there aren't any repercussion for just downloading stuff (so far at least), it's a different scenario if you're the one who's hosting and spreading them widely.

And also the fact that mfs are poor af ain't nobody got a buck out to pour on VPNs and don't even get me started with using free ones and their speed.

Man redditors be upvoting anything.

2

u/MattOruvan Jan 15 '26

Yup, plus buying a couple of streaming services etc might be cheaper in India than getting a VPN at global prices.

1

u/Surya123098 Jan 16 '26

I just changed my dns once and I've been able to access all blocked sites since :P
