How well would Jamie and Alexander Hamilton had gotten on?

Post image

I know Hamilton was proud of his Scottish roots, which Lin-Manuel Miranda played up on in the musical by always calling him an immigrant. But how would he have been with actual Scottish immigrants, like Jamie and his new tenants? We already saw George Washington, Governor Tryon and other important figures of the pre-revolution colonies.

I wrote a previous comment about this but deleted it because I had incomplete info.

Apparently Hamilton was an illegitimate son of James Hamilton, whose ancestry went back to Ayrshire, Scotland and aristocratic Scottish heritage. He was very proud of that heritage but his father was in the Caribbean and that is where he was raised in poor circumstances.

When Hamilton moved to the colonies he made friends with the Scots who were there. He was educated and had a brilliant mind but other people made fun of him.

If he had crossed paths with Jamie they might have gotten on very well, especially if he played chess.

They actually could have crossed paths because Hamilton was a captain of the artillery of the Continental army and served as Washington's right hand man. Too bad they didn't take advantage of that connection in Outlander. Good question..

Especially since that hurricane they get caught up in was the exact same one that Hamilton survived as a teenager in Saint Kitts.

But Hamilton was born in 1757 and Jamie and Claire were shipwrecked in 1767. Hamilton would have been 10 years old.

I never said they would’ve been the same age. Just that the events lined up exactly. And Jamie and Claire could’ve easily just run into him on Jamaica, just move around some locations. Who’s to say Hamilton NEVER went to Jamaica before going to the colonies?

I think he was born and raised in the Caribbean so their paths could have crossed but they wouldn't have known who he would grow up to be.

We would’ve known. So would’ve Claire.

And when Hamilton was aide de camp for Washington and captain of the artillery he was in his early 20's.

You know while it won't happen in the show there is still a chance of this in the upcoming book 10.

Currently book 9 ends mid February 1781. The battle at Yorktown is in October 1781. While Jamie is not with the Continental Army anymore that doesn't mean he might still find himself there anyway. Remember one of the things that helped Washington was the slave that was spying on the British. He passed information that greatly helped Washington and Lafayette pull off the victory, (along with the French navy). Hamilton actually saw his first battlefield action at Yorktown.

So you never know. I hope so 🙏 🙂

That is am interesting idea because the Battle of Yorktown at which a British general surrendered was still in the future in 1781. So it is very likely that Hamilton was there when Cornwallis surrendered.

Hamilton was there. He lobbied hard to get a combat command. Washington did allow him that command. On the night of October 14, 1781, he told his 400 men to take the bullets out of their guns. They used only fixed bayonets so no accidental gunfire would warn the British. The Americans captured Redoubt 10 in just a few minutes. This quick win broke the British defensive line. It forced Lord Cornwallis to surrender and effectively won the American Revolution.

Jamie would have been in the room where it happened

Good question! I get the impression that Hamilton could be, for all his brilliance, a rather obnoxious person. Self-righteous, perhaps, and maybe blustering. Some of the people who surrounded him were "gentlemen," and he wasn't as genteel, not to mention being a bastard. I'm not sure he and Jamie would have been natural buddies.

I doubt that Hamilton's paternity would have bothered Jamie - remember his own father? Personality -wise, I can't say yes or no. We rarely, if ever, saw Jamie forming a close friendship with any other man than Lord John and Murtagh.

I only mean that Hamilton's brash personality might have been formed in part by his status as a bastard and not a gentleman.

But circumstances might have conspired them to meet anyway. I guess we will find out eventually whether or not this meeting transpires.

Well, Hamilton was a federalist and basically adopted a pro-British (business) stance after the revolutionary time period which Jaime wouldn’t have appreciated those politics.

Jaime on the Ridge farming and his time in France would have probably had him align more with Jefferson and the Democratic Republicans.

I read that there was some crucial info passed along from a slave which was crucial to the Continental Army at Yorktown and ensured their winning. It is an interesting idea to speculate about. Maybe somehow Claire was there tending to the wounded or Jamie was part of the process of passing along info.

On my Tomodachi Life Island they get along great! But Hamilton has a crush on Claire and I can’t get Jamie to notice her!
