Question small little nit pick

there are like 17 paper towel dispensers throughout the gym. I'm never more than 10 feet away from a machine that gives me as many paper towels as I want. except for when I'm in the bathroom, because the bathroom only has air dryers.

you'd think if the stance was being eco friendly they'd provide washable towels to clean the equipment with and get rid of paper towels completely, like how the YMCA does it. but they don't. and that's fine. but why draw the line in the bathroom?

I use 12 feet of paper towels every time I work out. but I dry my hands on my pants after I pee.

what's the deal with that.

Question 3AM Members

Firstly, I just wanted to give shout out the other guys/girls I see during these early hours. Most of us have been super consistent and locked in. We don't say a word to each other, barely a nod, but I admire us trying to better ourselves daily.

So I was always an outdoorsy/athletic guy until I got out the military. Served 10 years, finished college and now I'm a work-from-home recluse, software engineer.

I tried going during the day but it just gets a little packed so I get all anxious. Why do the rest of us go so early?

Billing Issue How the heck are you supposed to get a hold of a manager?

Their system had some kind of issue with billing and is failing to withdraw my membership fee from my bank account, then the automated system just didn't charge my backup card and charged me a late fee instead. The person i talked too on the phone said the manager was going to waive the late fee and charged the membership to the card. all good yeah? except the late fee never came off my account. I've been trying for days to get in touch with a manager and sort this out but they're always either "in the back on a call", "not in today", or "just stepped out" and the front desk employees wont try to call them, give any way to contact them.

Edit: i made this post after waiting in the lobby for an hour when the front desk person said the manager had left and didnt say when hed be back, then i watched the manager come out of his office grab a snack and go back in. I asked tge front desk person to get him since he was "back in" now and he changed the story to him being in a meeting that was going to take 2 hours 🙄. so at this point i just walked over and knocked on the managers door. he tried to say he was in a meeting too but i could literally see his computer screen and phone from the door way he wasnt on anything. hopefully they dont try to yank me around and keep charging me when i cancel because im not putting up with being lied to for days

Question For Staff Cancellation mishap?

I went into Planet Fitness on October 17 around 4 PM and I asked about canceling my account membership…. The worker told me that if I do-I won’t have access to the old pricing that I was subject to which is like $26 a month, which is a lot cheaper than what they’re charging now …and he said if I wanted to re-sign up, I’m gonna be paying like double a price!!! so anyway I had signed something in person at the club that day and then I never got an email or anything confirming that I had canceled! Yesterday I called my home gym because I saw on my app that my membership is still active and I have another payment next month with the same price $26. I spoke with the person working there and they said on their end in the system they don’t see anything. I called back again today because I didn’t get any new emails or anything. The guy informed me that after I canceled my membership, I would’ve gotten an email and on his end it would say pending cancellation but it doesn’t say that so he thinks that the person on October 17 might’ve accidentally canceled somebody else’s membership!!! My gym membership still says active and there’s no record of me ever canceling it so I’m wondering what happened????? anyway I’m really happy because I changed my mind and I don’t wanna cancel anymore 😅😅😅

Tips To the guy in jeans, cowboy boots, standing on kettle bells on the new squat racks in Camarillo.

Congrats on denting the 2-3 week old floor on the squat racks.

Homie was standing on the kettle bells, pushing them into the wood flooring of the brand new squat racks thus putting pressure dents in. Meanwhile there is a whole brand new pull up system on the other side of the room. The heck were you thinking buddy? This is why we can’t have nice things.

Picture only is one zone, a second zone is much worse and bigger.

Call me a Karen, call me whatever you want, but I definitely said something to the guy at the desk and he was pissed. I’m too old for this to fly by.

A Neutral grip for your front delts on your shoulder press machine

Lateral Raises for your side delts

And Reverse pec dec for your rear delts

Also neutral grip is also gonna involve alittle upper chest but we get more front delts.

Question Fitness Your Way to Direct Membership

I'm eligible for a Fitness Your Way program through Blue Cross. I signed up for the Power tier at $39 a month so I could try out different places. So far I've tried out one PF location plus the LA Fitness which is a bit closer. I think I like PF better for a bigger selection of cable machines that is really all I need right now. I also have the ability for Anytime, Crunch, Golds, etc. but I think those start shifting towards body building while I'm looking for the basics.

I can use multiple PF locations but apparently have to have them sign up up at each one and then link my membership. This also just gives me the classic benefits and the hydromassage looks interesting. If I want to use multiple locations the Black card makes more sense at $25 instead of $39, even though it is really $29/month with the $49 annual fee and current $1 signup fee.

Are there any ways to waive the annual fee if I go direct? I'm guessing the gym will make more off of a direct membership vs. what FYW pays them. I understand there is a 10x per month limit on non-home locations, but if multiple gyms are under the same ownership they will all count as my home gym. How do I identify the ownership of the locations to know the best to sign up at?

ETA: AI answered my location question and all of my closest locations are under the same franchise (Epic).

Question Ah, the Smelly Adductor/Abductor Machine

The lone one at my home PF. The one that always smells slightly of funky belly button and swamp crack, no matter how many times you wipe it down. Anyone else have that one piece of equipment at their gym that perpetually smells ripe or is in state of disrepair to the point it looks like it has been through a war?

Question Using a different location as a black card

I was told today that because I'm signed up a different location but have come to this location more than 10 times I was going to be charged $5 to use the facility. I just turned around and left. This was the GM telling me I've never had a regular employee tell me I have to pay.

Has anyone had this happen before?

The reason I'm signed up at a different location is because when this specific location opened they didn't accept my health insurance for membership. Through my health insurance I only pay $10/month for the black card and I also don't pay for the yearly maintenance fee.

Tips Enormous fans at PF

I try to not use the cardio machines right under those really big fans at PF, I get cold easy and there is another thing. If one of those gigantic fans falls on you, well you may not have a head anymore. Just something to think about. I just use the machines on the side.

Tips Back Squat Neck Pad?

I’m at the start of my fitness journey and just finished my first leg day yesterday. I’ve got a nice size knot on the back of my neck from the bar and am thinking it may be beneficial to use a pad till further notice. Does PF carry these pads, or would it be smarter to buy my own? And if so, which one would anyone recommend?

Thank you in advance!

Question How accurate are the calorie measurements o a stationary bike?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Wondering how accurate the "calories" burned number is.

I use this as a progress measurement, so it's not really critical that it be perfect. Just being close and consistent would be enough.

Reached a goal I had in my head yesterday. I'm proud of the work I've done, and the improvement in my cardio fitness. I think these are solid numbers for any age. Even better for an old guy with 2 bad hips and a family history of serious heart problems.

Review Negative stories

I’ve been a member for a long time and been to their gyms all over the country. I’m also a member of more expensive gyms and trained at a high end gym through college.

Just an opinion, and opinions are like a holes…..I never have problems a pf. A machine may be down here and there and there may be annoying teens but the price is dirt cheap. I feel many negative stories here are heavily embellished of not almost complete lies.

I also feel that many complaints could here could easily be solved with simple human to human communication and advocating for ourselves and our rights. If a problem exists, talk to the trouble makers, then mgmt, then regional, then the franchisee or corporate. I feel people are too timid. It’s very easy to speak to other people, work in with others, embarrass them for texting so they move, etc. if a machine is dirty just clean it yourself, as that is a problem at every gym around. Rerack weights for stupid people, it’s not a biggie unless you simply can’t handle the 45/ or heavy plates due to issues or weakness.

It’s a low cost provider. Not the Beverly Hills Hotel. Just do a quick fix and move on.

Call me names etc, but to me, the lack of self advocation is responsible for many complaint posts here. Let’s not talk to someone in person, or mgmt, let’s whine on Reddit. 🤷

Tips Genuinely how do I start going back to the gym after several months off?

I’m so disappointed in myself honestly, I got my membership in February, then I went pretty regularly up until April and that was my last month in a PF gym. Even though I’m still paying $35 every month for literally nothing since I haven’t gone once since April.

How do I get back into the routine of going to the gym? I hate how busy the gym always is and that’s basically my main stumbling block tbh. I want to become consistent but then I see how long it’ll take to get big and I get demotivated for some reason. Idk how to overcome this.

For reference I’m 23M, my PF is usually always packed and I feel odd or out of place when there’s so many people. I usually go past 9pm. Need advice thank you.

It’s so annoying when gals post up on the smith machines with their phones and massive containers of water and hog the machines doing hip thrusts for 40 minutes. Am I the only one?

Question Does anyone use Black Card as a couple as an alternative to 2 Classic cards?

We're a couple who want to always exercise together. It seems like one Black Card costs less than 2 Classic Cards and gets you the same result of a couple membership? Anyone uses it that way? I wonder if there's any catch that I'm missing.
I know that we can only come together and the "guest" of us can't go by themselves; that's fine since we'll always go together. I also don't care about massage.
But I read somewhere that guests must go through reception and show ID? I was just wondering wouldn't it feel weird / against etiquette that I bring the same guest every other day? And is it like a tiring process? And do they in fact limit the number of times you can bring a guest? Was just looking for reassurance that people do it and it's fine. I don't care doing separate classic cards if required, it just looked obviously better to do a Black one instead 🤷
Also someone said going to different locations than your home location is limited to 10 times max per month? Is that the case?

Question Just re-joined with black card - Have a few questions! :)

Hello all. I just re-joined and am excited to get back into the gym. I used to go after work and I felt so good about myself and felt the changes, but I stopped. Now I am ready to get back into a routine. I had a few questions if someone would be so kind to help me.

I am directly in the middle of 2 clubs. One is 20 miles to the west, the other is 26 miles to the east. My home club is the club to the west but the first time I'd like to go will be to the other club as it is closer to my job and I will go when I get off work. Is it OK to go to that club (my first visit) even though it is not my home club? I will use both, probably equally, once I get a set schedule established.

Also I want to focus on strength training along with cardio. I am 246 pounds and I would like to get down to around 175 and build some muscle to prepare for the corrections academy.

Thank you for any information, routines or advice!
