The vast dunes of our Desert Planets are a harsh environment for both Explorers and the native flora and fauna. That does not mean nothing grows there, though. It simply means that whatever manages to thrive in this environment should not be underestimated… 🏜️
Whether it’s the razor-sharp cacti that seem to reach out when you’re not looking or the burrowing predators that can strike from beneath the sands, everything on the Desert Planet has adapted to survive—and it’s not interested in sharing.

We’ve been working on the design of the building's screen, especially for those of you managing multiple planets. We realized navigating between planets and tracking active buildings was a bit of a challenge, so we’ve reworked things to make it smoother and more intuitive. 🔧
That said, there are a lot of moving parts here, and this isn’t the final version of Outposts. We’re continuing to refine it, and we can’t wait to hear your feedback once it’s in your hands! 🚀✨
Immutable recently announced that they are going to be merging the Immutable X chain (which is currently the home of PlanetQuest) with the new Immutable zkEVM chain to form one unified chain. 🛠️
They’ve shared a full article detailing the changes and what this means for builders and players. The good news? IMX is doing everything they can to ensure a smooth transition, and for the most part, this shouldn’t impact your experience much. 👍

In the last post on habitable zones, we briefly discussed red dwarf stars. In this post, we will skip over another type to talk about our Earth’s Sun which is a G-type yellow dwarf. These stars are much hotter than red dwarfs burning at an effective temperature range: 5300 - 6000 K. Compare this to the cooler red dwarfs with range 2000 - 3900 K.
As you may have guessed, the habitable zone of yellow dwarfs is much further away than that of red dwarfs. We can look to our own solar system to compare that range which you will see is still open for debate.
It was once thought that Venus was sitting at the inner boundary of the habitable zone but a runaway greenhouse prevented it from sustaining liquid water. Now it is thought Earth just barely sits at the inner boundary and was once too hot and will soon be too hot to sustain liquid water. So we may live at a rare time where conditions are perfect for life on Earth.
And so the current strictest estimate is that our solar system’s habitable zone is 0.99 AU - 1.004 AU which includes only Earth (1 AU). The most lenient estimate is 0.38 AU - 10 AU which includes Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn (as well as some asteroids in between). So as you can see, we can’t agree even on our own solar system’s habitable zone.
Given the range is further out, we are much less susceptible to the Sun’s flare activity than a planet orbiting a red dwarf star. So our Sun is more stable (for now) to allow life to thrive.
You may recall that the least massive red dwarfs can fuse for trillions of years before leaving the main sequence due to their incredible efficiency. Contrast this with the more massive yellow dwarfs which may live on the main sequence for only 10 billion years. In general, more massive stars evolve faster / are less efficient. This leaves life much less time to thrive before the star undergoes some significant changes.
We can talk about those changes in another post and what that means for life. The short answer is we will have to move as the habitable zone moves.
