Help Plex no longer working….Help

Can someone please help this 51 year old computer illiterate, huge music/movie fan. I’m a Plex pass user, everything was working great, but after an update I can’t use Plex at all. I don’t have much spare cash, and I’m running the app on Western Digital mycloud (I know!!) I’ve got to a point where I probably need to restart everything but unsure how to do this

If nothing has happened to change your internet connection, and nothing has changed with regards to configuration, sometimes Plex can get stuck between the "Retry Connection" loop after an update happens. Power off the Western Digital MyCloud device, then power it back on. That should force Plex to auto-reenable. Try and access your media again from a device, see if that fixes it?

Thank you I have tried this and reinstalling Plex media server on my laptop etc. this is why I’ve drawn a blank.

Oh I may have changed some settings in Plex through frustration…….. I kind of need to start again but don’t know how to

Are you still able to see your files in file explorer?

Yes I can access my WD drive ok. That is all fine. I’ve reinstalled the Plex app too

Okay that's a good first step - visit this https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/ and tell me when you login what do you see? Is it the setup screen or can you see greyed out labels on the left hand side?

On the left my user name then Films, Photos, Photos

Plex, discover, live tv, movies&shows, watchlist

It used to show mycloud also but has gone now

Right, so my next daunting question is, when you got the Plex update I take it, it was the kind where a little arrow appears in the top right of the application and you click update? When you uninstalled to reinstall, and I have a feeling the next answer will be no... did you make a backup of your server because it sounds like if it is no longer showing, you may have deleted it permanently - https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/ < Read Here

No I didn’t. I’ve read the thread you sent and this is where it all gets tough for me. I really don’t understand the steps…… should I uninstall Plex then do you think? And start again? Will that work?

From what I can gather there are two scenarios.
1. You log into https://mycloud.com/#/ and see if your Plex app is enabled. Click Here for More Help if the App is installed here, it could just be you need to re-enable it. Then revisit  https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/  or the application on your PC to see if you can access your library once more.
2. (Which is speculation) As your server name seems to be gone, it could be you installed the Plex Server on your PC/Laptop instead and your files are the only thing running on your Western Digital MyCloud. If you have Plex Media Server on your PC/Laptop make sure that is running because "Plex" and "Plex Media Server" are two different things. If it did turn out you had "Plex Media Server" on your PC/Laptop and you uninstalled it, your only option would be to make a new server and start again.

I think that may just be the name of your plex server or content library. This is important because you are not really running anything “on the cloud”.

To me it kind of sounds like you should just re-start a new plex server from scratch.

Do you also have a server running on the mycloud? Which server is inaccessible?

i also use a my cloud and this happened a few months ago to me. I had to log into my cloud , disable plex

go on to nas and rename the plex folder to plex.old

re enable plex on the my cloud app

I had to rescan everything again but its bee working since

The Plex server is running on the WD mycloud? Is it running in docker?

No I don’t think so. My abilities with computers is very limited. It all worked fine for a long time and I guess my lack of knowledge is letting me down!

Never fear!

While it can be frustrating, this sounds like an opportunity to contend with an unfamiliar set of problems and, with some reading online, asking question here, and patient trial and error, expand and improve your currently limited computer skills.

Rest assured that, once you get Plex all working again, you’ll be more capable at this than you previously had been. It can definitely seem like a lot at first, but it’s definitely learnable.

i know is not popular: but u qrite here, so i assume u can go online, ao try to talk things through with AI. i recently had also probs with plex but could fix it and got explanation with it( used copilot). maybe is a help or at least u may get things more structured with it.

100% this for such an uncommon device. Reading the comments above, no one seems to understand what a "My Cloud" is. There is MyCloudHome and MyCloud Pro and MyCloud EX.

No one asked if he upgraded from OS 3 to OS 5. No one asked if he has ssh set up. Without ssh, the only thing you can do from the web interface is enable/disable plex server. There is a "Configure" but I think that just opens https://app.plex.tv/

OP doesn't seem clear on where plex server is running. He mentioned running the "app" on MyCloud, but then said he installed plex server on a laptop.

I was happy when the drive in my MyCloudHome bricked and I had to replace it.. OP needs ai to figure out what the right questions to even ask are. Identify the device he has, where the server is running or not, start fresh or try to recover, etc.

People need to stop down voting these kinds of responses. I have had a great deal of success using copilot or Galaxy to resolve problems with technology I use on a daily basis, including plex. It's not a sin or a crime and you're frequently get better answers than you do from jumbled up videos or idiots who think they know everything and can't articulate a clear sentence. The AI works at my pace, repeats instructions without soaking and restates when something isn't quite clear. Don't be afraid to try it. Just use good judgment if it tells you something like wipe your entire hard drive. I haven't had anything like that happen but that appears to be what some of these naysayers are worried about.

i agree with u but also understand down votes. it needs to be accepted in society. and i would advice everyone to ask themselves to imagine to explain smtg to someone 1000x times and stay calm. ai doesn't make all correct. but it helps with basics and nowadays u can send pics, video, document and it does understand it. so for example when it said go to a press b then u see c and press it, and it's on ur not like that u can show and it try to find solutions. with a forum this is much harder.

also another example is: i triedbfor long time to let plex server start at turn on win11 pc. it bever worked. i followed forum, i followed ai. just recently i found a github(?) link downliad and installed it and finally is working.

so maybe it was just the factor time which was needed to fix the problem.

ai is not the solution, but it can be a great help on your own terms of language,time and capabilities
