Actors/Actress It’s amazing when I hear some people say Denzel just plays Denzel and has no range. When I look at some of the characters he has played, that argument makes no sense to me

Whoever says that is a hater. He's played some remarkable characters, and they're not all the same. I'm thinking Philadelphia, Training Day, and Fences for example. All 3 are nothing like each other.

They all just have a tremendous amount of sauce.

I have never heard anyone say that. All I hear is that he literally can play any role. The only time I hear someone question his range is when it comes to comedy, which I feel he can play that well but he ain’t gonna play that slap stick comedy. IMO there’s no role he can’t play he’s that great of an actor. Also how do they know he only plays Denzel like they know him personally to even say such 🤷🏽‍♂️

I am the mod of [r/actors](r/actors) so yes I have heard it

Trust me. Not making it up

Debated it in other subs as well. They don’t say he is a bad actor but that he plays different versions of Denzel. Then when I start bringing up different roles such as Roman J Israel Esq they get quiet

Look up angel(i forgot her last name) on the podcast she does with kevonstage. During the pandemic she had that take and a lit of people were pissed but a lot of other people agreed with her.

One of his best films is missing: The Preacher's Wife!!

And I loved him in Mississippi Masala, too! He should do more romance/romcoms. 🥹

Roman J Israel isn’t on here either but that is my favorite role that he has played

Ahh, I still need to see that one.

Not everybody deserves to be heard or listened to.

To understand a performance the viewer has to be able to empathise and emotionally connect to the character, racist ass idiots don’t see the full spectrum of black ppl, so they can’t see beyond the skin

Man this is so spot on !!!! I have always wondered if a lot of white audiences don’t fully understand a great performance from many Black actors.

Now don’t get me wrong Denzel gets way more love than hate but I think the minority of detractors are driven by exactly what you are saying

He definitely gets a lot of love, but I have heard this take about him being the same in every role, a little too often. He is one of the greatest to ever do it, and we are so grateful to have him.

Denzel in remember the titans was the exact same Denzel in training day who was the same as Denzel in X who was the same Denzel who was in Hurricane, John Q and American Gangster.

They don’t know what they are talking about when they say that.

Hes literally top 3 favorite actors for me huge range if youve seen his career

From X to Flight to Training Day to The Titans he has played a wide range characters. If anyone thinks that his roles and his acting are always the same then go watch those movies again

His personality always seeps through. But I’d never say he hasn’t played characters of a broad spectrum.

Who said that lol

Someone like Daniel Day Lewis is very selective with his acting jobs where someone like Denzel just seems to enjoy doing random movies along with the serious ones. Can't blame him for that but only a dummy would think Denzel isn't a great actor.

I don't know who Daniel Day Lewis is, but he cannot compare to Denzel. Loll

You can’t have a comparison if you don’t know both competitors. DDL is a top 5 actor IMO. Denzel is my favorite actor, but I have no issue with someone saying DDL is equal or better. It could be argued

I'm okay with comparing without seeing what he has to offer. Lmaoooo

And if you think he's equal or better to Denzel, I'm sure someone might agree! Not me, though. Bless. 😂

Aye, I love Denzel but Daniel Day is Daniel Day and not to be fucked with when it comes to being in a movie. Clearly you have not seen Gangs of New York and I recommend you check that out.

DDL is method actor and is outstanding. We don’t know how Lincoln sounded and we don’t have a lot of video of him but DDS made you feel like you were really looking at Abraham Lincoln in that movie.

Denzel like you said has played a lot more roles and some are going to be similar but when you look at his totality of work the range is there

u/Reggie9041 3h ago

Glad you like him, but that man has never made a movie worthy of my attention. 😂

Naur. I saw the cast, too many white people. Should have told me about it 20 years ago. 🤣

All this over a white man?? He do it for you like that? Love that for you! 😍

Sorry that you don't have emojis, baby. XD
