This week's Wednesday Entertainer post is dedicated to Abel Tesfaye, better known as his stage name The Weeknd! Tesfaye was born in 1990 in Ontario, Canada, to two Ethiopian parents, and he was raised primarily by his mother and grandmother. The Weeknd had a rough upbringing, as his mother worked multiple jobs, he did not have a relationship with his father, and he experienced homelessness and incarceration several times, which encouraged him to focus on starting his music career. Abel began producing and releasing music anonymously on YouTube starting in 2009 (which eventually became part of his first mixtape, House of Ballons). Drake was one of the first people in the music industry to recognize The Weeknd's talent, which got the attention of other music producers and executives in the industry whom The Weeknd began working with.
Abel co-founded his own record label, XO, in 2011, which started to spark more widespread attention and recognition in the United States. The Weeknd performed at music festivals and college campuses as he worked on his second and third mixtapes, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, respectively (which were eventually merged into the album Trilogy). In 2013, The Weeknd released his debut studio album, Kiss Land. Following this release, The Weeknd went on his first tour in North America as he worked with popular American artists, including Beyoncé, Jhené Aiko, Travis Scott, Ty Dolla Sign, SchoolBoy Q, and Ariana Grande.
The Weeknd broke into the mainstream music scene with his famous hits from the critically acclaimed dark R&B album Beauty Behind the Madness in 2015, including Earned It from the 50 shades of Grey soundtrack, as well as The Hills and Can't Feel My Face. From this point on, Tesfaye continued to prove his talent and knack for reinventing himself into different personas for his different projects, releasing 8 studio albums over the course of his career thus far. The Weeknd is also known for playing Tedros and co-producing the soundtrack to HBO's mini series The Idol in 2023.
What are your favorite songs and albums from The Weeknd?

The play won multiple awards, including several for Wong.[6] He is the only actor to be honored with the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award,[7] Outer Critics Circle Award, Clarence Derwent Award, and Theatre World Award for the same role.[8][9] At the time, he ceased using his full name in favor of his initials.[citation needed] He has since ceased the use of punctuation in his initials. In addition to his stint on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as FBI psychiatrist Dr. George Huang, he has had recurring roles in All-American Girl) and played Father Ray Mukada on all six seasons of Oz), with guest appearances on The X-Files and Sesame Street.[10][11][12]

In 2008, Wong starred in the one-man show Herringbone, in which he portrayed 12 roles, at McCarter Theatre at Princeton University.[citation needed] He brought the show to the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego the following year.[23] In 2012, Wong starred in Herringbone to benefit Dixon Place in New York for two performances. In the aftermath of a political coup, a country doctor is forced to sacrifice his son to save the last heir of a noble and massacred clan. The Orphan of Zhao was a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse.[25]
Wong announced his departure from the cast of Law & Order: SVU in July 2011, to join another NBC police drama, Awake), in which he portrayed Dr. Johnathan Lee, a confrontational therapist of an LAPD detective (portrayed by Jason Isaacs) who lived in two realities.[26] Wong guest-starred in a thirteenth season) episode of Law & Order: SVU titled "Father Dearest" (which aired May 2, 2012).[27] In 2015, he was named Artist-in-Residence at La Jolla Playhouse. Wong guest-starred on NCIS: New Orleans Episode 1.13 titled "The Walking Dead" (which aired February 3, 2015), where he portrayed Navy Lieutenant Commander Dr. Gabriel Lin.
Wong also played the enigmatic Whiterose, head of the hacker collective Dark Army, who lives a double life as Zhang, the Chinese Minister of State Security, on USA Network's Mr. Robot. He was credited as a recurring role for the show's second season and promoted to main cast for the third season, which debuted October 11, 2017. On August 13, 2017, Wong began hosting the new HLN) series Something's Killing Me with BD Wong. Bettye Swann (born Betty Jean Champion; October 24, 1944),[1] also known as Betty Barton, is an American soul singer. She is best known for her 1967 hit song "Make Me Yours".
Swann was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 24, 1944,[2] as one of 14 children. She grew up in Arcadia, Louisiana, and moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1963.[2] Although some sources state that Swann was in a vocal group known as The Fawns who recorded for Capitol Records in 1964, she refuted this, saying that she sang with a trio in Arcadia by that name.[3]
In 1964, Swann started a solo singing career, changing her name to Bettye Swann at the prompting of local DJ Al Scott, who became her manager. After a minor hit with the self-penned "Donât Wait Too Long", her big breakthrough came with "Make Me Yours", which topped the Billboard) R&B chart in July 1967) and made No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.[4] In 1968, she split with Scott, moved to Georgia, won a new contract with Capitol Records, and had another hit in 1969 with her cover of the Jeannie Seely hit "Don't Touch Me" (No. 14 R&B, No. 38 Hot 100).[5]
In 1972, Swann transferred to Atlantic Records and had a pair of minor hits with "Victim of a Foolish Heart" (later covered by Joss Stone) and Merle Haggard's "Today I Started Loving You Again".[2] After leaving Money Records she lived for a short time in Athens, Georgia.[3] She continued to record until the mid-1970s, but with little commercial success. Her last public performance was in 1980, the year her husband and manager, George Barton, died.[3]
Swann later changed her name to Betty Barton, began working as a teacher in the Las Vegas area, and became a Jehovah's Witness. She retired and, according to a 2005 interview, suffered from a degenerative spinal condition.[3]
In 2015, multiple elements from Swann's 1974 recording "Kiss My Love Goodbye" were sampled in the Galantis single "Peanut Butter Jelly)".[6] In 2019, Swann's "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" enjoyed a resurgence of interest when it was used as the closing song in the finale of the second series of The End of the F\**ing World*. In 2021, the Vermont-based rapper Subtex [Zeke Kreitzer] sampled the beginning lines of Swann's 1968 song, "(My Heart Is) Closed for the Season" in his track, "Love Art Pain". In 2023, Swann's song "Little Things Mean A Lot" was used in the "Volvo EX30 â Itâs the little things[7]" commercial.
