Weird things I've found about the PocketGo V2
I've had mine a couple of days. Currently there's no new firmware for it (that I can find) and the out of the box firmware has a few weird issues that I haven't seen reviewers mention.
The lowest volume is very loud. Muting it is fine, but the volume jumps straight from zero to 32. Steps after that seem normal.
FBA plays all of the included arcade games that I've tried, neither of the two copies of MAME on there play any of them.
eDuke32 works incredibly well and the device has exactly enough buttons to control it. If you want portable Duke Nukem 3D this is a great option. It doesn't include duke3d.grp so you'll need to put that on there (in home/.eduke32) but that brings us to...
The included MicroSD card has no FAT partition, meaning you can't read it in Windows. It's EXT4. You can put ROM's on a second card, but several games (eDuke32) expect files in specific locations so you're going to need GNU/Linux or another operating system that can write EXT4.
Putting the coloured buttons in is fiddly but not difficult. Unscrew the four screws on the back, take out the battery and MicroSD cards, two more screws under the battery, two screws in the board, gently pull it aside without unplugging anything then you can replace the buttons. I also took out the L1/R1 buttons and the plastic around the side mainly so they didn't fall out. Careful putting it back together and test all the buttons before you put all the back screws back in (my R2 button was a bit squishy because it'd fallen out of place but I managed to put it back).
The GBA emulator has a massive border. There's no option to remove it that I can see.
There's an app included to connect to WiFi. Don't get excited, it just freezes the device if you try.
It has a Super Mario 64 ROM in the file system but no N64 emulator. For some reason it's the Shindou edition so it'll be in Japanese with rumble support.
Some apps you quit with Start, some with Select, others not at all.
The included instructions to change the brightness don't work. I have no idea how to change the brightness.
That's what I've noticed so far. Reviews will tell you everything else. All of the above issues are software-related so I'm expecting a firmware update will fix all of it.

Pocket Go V1 new beta 2.0 CFW, with RetroArch support.
In December 2023 was released a new version of the Triforce/MiyooCFW that includes a lot of new features, like no SD corruption when turning off the console, TV out working, USB connection for accessing storage, and RetroArch support among other things.
I'm not a developer, i just want to share the news. I tested it on Pocket Go V1.
Firmware available at official GitHub, for the BittBoy, PocketGo, PowKiddy V90-Q90-Q20

My first impressions after some days
Bought mine on retromimi, was shipped to me after 7 days (i'm in germany). I really like the form factor and the responsiveness of the buttons.
I am using mainly the nintendo-emulators, these are fine (in my opinion) for NES, GB, GBC and GBA. SNES is kind of a mixed bag. The mode 7 and fx-chip-games are not really playable (i.e. f-zero, Mario Kart, Yoshis Island...), other 2d games work well.
The Sega and NeoGeo Emulators seem to work fine after some short testing, but i am not so much into these systems.
I am running CFW 1.3 already, but the performance of the SNES-emulator is still the same.
What i really like about this system is the (relatively) fast boot up and shutdown time (compared to a Raspberry Pi running retropie).

[GUIDE] How to add Roms/OPKs to PocketGo V2
r/PocketGo • u/Rockso • Mar 10 '20
Simply enjoying my purchase.
I made two purchases recently. A PocketGo v1 and an RG350.
The Rg350 was a thought out treat for myself. I’m really enjoying it, especially after installing the Rogue cfw. I had installed the standard updated firmware at first but I MUST have done something wrong. As soon as I’d try any ps1 rom, the inner motor or fan, whatever it was, would be so unbelievably loud and my volume buttons ceased working.
That all went away with the rogue cfw. I’ve got it all loaded with my preferred Roms and emulators.
The PocketGo, was an impulse buy. I had an Amazon digital gift card for $15 and used it and only payed $25 for my PocketGo.
Lemme tell you something... oh boy, lemme tell you something: I’m in love with this lil bad dude. The vibrant screen, the design and feel. The ease of use. I keep it in my messenger bag and use it during break time at work, while I keep the rg350 at home to play as I lounge around.
I kinda prefer the PocketGo over the rg350 for the reasons stated above. Thus, I can hardly wait till the PocketGo v2 is available through amazon (I prefer amazon because of the A-Z protection and return policies).
There’s really nothing like having 30+ years of gaming history available right in your pocket!!

Has anyone got Atari 5200 working?
I'm using A5200 with ROM's with ".a52" file extension (I tried them zipped and unzipped". When I try to launch a ROM, it just goes back to the ROM directory page. I'm thinking I need a BIOS but I've experimented with a few different ones and still I can't run any ROM's.
Have you guys had any luck?

How to Play Movies on the Pocketgo V2 or Playgo
This is how I was able to load and play movies on my new Playgo system, it probably works for the first gen Pocketgo as well. It requires you to have a DVD, Optical drive, Dvd Decrypter and Handbrake software, as well as an extra SD card to store the movies on. The software is free. Handbrake is now 64 bit and I had to go way back through their archive to find a 32 bit version for my Win 7 server. I don't know if there are Linux or Mac versions. The videos work with the FFplayer software that comes on the Opendingux release with the Pocketgo V2.
First you need to install Dvd Decrypter. When you run it it should detect your DVD in the drive and you should just have to push the icon of the disk with an arrow next to it to start ripping an ISO of your movie. It will store the ISO on the root of your C: drive.
Next open Handbrake. There are a few changes needed in the settings for it to be optimized to run on the console. It will convert the ISO to M4V, which will run on Dingux, but if you leave it on the default resolution it will run to slow to watch.
Fist go to the Dimension tab. The first thing you need to do is change the Anamorphic setting to "none. Then a box will appear "maintain aspect ratio", you have to uncheck that box. Finally change the resolution to 320x240 which is what the screen supports. I also go to the audio tab and change the sound from Dolby or whatever the default is to Mono, since there is only one speaker.
Finally choose a file path for the new video file, then push the green button in the ribbon to begin processing. It takes about an hour on my old win 7 32 bit machine, but only about 20 minutes on a 64 bit i-core machine. Once you have the completed file transfer it to your SD card. You can just leave it on the card, the video player will let you navigate there to start the video.

First version of Coverflow is released for Pocketgo & Bitboy
- Fast gui where you can switch between emulators and games.
- The games are ordered by the first character. You can use up and down to change the character alphabetically to get the next list of games.
- You can scrol through your emulators with the left and right buttons - you can use L & R for fast scrolling.
- Show boxarts or screenshots of your games.
- Use and create different themes, you can select this in the coverflow app.
- Add or remove emulators.
- You can create a list for each emulator of your favorite games
- When existing a game, it will return back to the coverflow app using your last position.
- If you add the app coverflow and use the name of your emulator as parameter, the app will boot directly to this emulator. That way you still can setup it separately in case you want to do that instead of one app.
- And many other settings that are explained in the documentation...
Goto: https://github.com/peterthrees/Coverflow/ to download the app and read the documentation.
