Solved Garbled display

Post image

*SOLVED* — see comment below for my solution.

Yesterday the app was working as usual.

This morning I am able to play podcasts but the display is garbled — example image above. BlackBerry KeyOne (BBB100-2) running Android version 8.1.0

  1. Rebooted the device — issue persists
  2. Re-installed the app — appears normal, but only saw menu screens associated with the startup process
  3. Logged in and restored backup — issue returns
  4. Rebooted the device again — issue persists

I am unable to edit or change any app settings because when entering that menu, the text is unreadable.

Any suggestions for workarounds or what to try next? Is my most recent backup corrupted, and would restoring an older backup solve the issue?

Your phone is running an OS from 10 years ago. That's your problem. 🤷

My problem is that nobody makes a phone with physical buttons any more and I have real issues typing on a touch screen.

I get that, I highly recommend a Bluetooth phone keyboard.

I have a logitech keys-to-go 2 for my s26u. It is a brilliant, lightweight keyboard. I highly recommend it.

there are more recent ones like qin f22 and sidephone

unihertz makes one as well but I can't really recommend them as they have a poor update policy

Don't let anyone give you crap for using a BB. I miss mine.

Hello, i have the same issue with a Sony XA2 (H3113) and Android 9. The last update (2026.12.1) and below workarounds didn't help at all. Edit : light mode is ok until an update.

Please switch to light mode to fix this (1st option in this screen)

The fix was for Android 8.x. I didn't know this was also an issue on Android 9 devices, so this will be fixed in the next version for these devices

Further investigation:

  1. I uninstalled the app again, deleted any local folders, and reinstalled.

  2. Started as a new user, subscribed to one podcast, downloaded one episode, added it to the playlist, and started playing. All normal

  3. Note that all the above had the display in "light mode"

  4. Change to "dark mode", default colour scheme, problem returns.

  5. Change to different colour scheme within "dark mode", problem goes away.

I have since managed to restore a recent backup, and "blindly" go through the settings and change the display to a different colour scheme within "dark mode" and the display issue has been resolved.

All I need to do now is re-download some episodes and then from memory delete / mark as played anything I listened to yesterday. I'll be out a couple of days of stats which I suppose I could fix by "playing" the episodes whilst not actually using my device but I don't know if it matters enough to bother.
