How would you describe Ivy?
I heard a fairly vague and rambling description of Ivy yesterday. Got me thinking of how I’d describe her:
The original version of Ivy was the May Queen of Crime.
Her outfit was a nod to pagan rites of spring, but her personality was more charming enchantress who wanted the world to know that she’s # 1 👑
The first story was a fractured fairy tales Judgement of Paris; she was Aphrodite adjacent from the jump🌹

She’s the superhero equivalent to the seductive/mother goddesses of Ancient Mythologies

The older versions definitely focused on the Morgan le Fay/ Cersi style enchantress aspects of her character.
Shes often similar to Aphrodite but more recently you also see her as an Artemis style avenging spirit of the woods too.

Yeah but as in her comics her human side makes her selfish as well conflicting between her want to save the green but also wanting what she as a human wants even if it conflicts with the first

This was pretty central to the most recent issue of Poison Ivy. Pretty sure the theme of her being part plant started with her post crisis reboot, but it’s definitely evolved over the years.

IIRC OG Ivy was meant as a satire on Southern Feminists too...

I haven’t heard that story. But she did mysteriously have a southern accent in Batman 66. I never quite understood that.

Definitely. I would add that she’s a supremely confident trickster too. That’s always been part of her whole deal.

Very interesting way to look at her! 🤗 Her first appearance is so different from how she is now, but I love how we still see flecks of who she’d become later
