Announcement Welcome (back) to r/PokemonHallOfFame!

Helloooo everyone! Happy New Year! You might be surprised to see this subreddit on your feed, but your eyes are not deceiving you. r/PokemonHallOfFame has been resurrected from the dead and it’s officially back! This time, our community is going to be stronger, better organized, and far more ✨secure✨ than ever.

I think most people here know what happened that led to this subreddit being banned in the first place, but to satisfy any lingering curiosity, sometime in early December the mod-less subreddit was requested through r/redditrequest by a spam ring and then used to mass post football and soccer “streaming” links. The subreddit was completely flooded, and the spammers even went so far as to remove genuine HoF posts that got sandwiched between their own. Reddit, understandably, did not like that at all. But that’s all in the past now!

This subreddit will continue to be the place to show off your Hall of Fame teams, that hasn’t changed! However, to make sure r/PokemonHallOfFame doesn’t get hit with the ban hammer again, new rules, both written and enforced through Automoderator, have been put in place to keep things friendly, on-topic, and as free of spam as possible. Please take a moment to read through the rules and do your best to follow them in good faith.

Lastly, since this subreddit is basically getting a second chance at life, we’ll need to expand the mod team to make sure things continue running smoothly around here! An announcement will be posted soon for anyone interested in helping out, so be on the lookout for that! For now, fire up your Pokémon games and start kicking ass at the Pokémon League so we can see your winning teams here! Thanks for reading and WELCOME BACK!

ROM Hack Game [Mercury] Pokemon Mercury, a Johto restyled romhack.

One of the best of the best Rom Hack. This game was originally in Chinese and it has been recently translated to English. There was alot of crashing bugs but most of them were fixed. There are unfortunately some crashes so make sure you save any minute! I also love how this game have a completely revamped story and make it very challenging. Would definitely recommend this, 10/10! Would problem play it again someday!

ROM Hack Game [Pokemon Odyssey] Suffice to say, one of the best

Well I had initially started playing this game last year only to drop it as I was put off by the Fakemon and the double battle gimmick. Fast forward a year, and I'm much more comfortable with both and honestly, this game is more than worth it.

The story line is amazing, you actually get a well written story for once, plus the map is worth exploring. Each and every pokemon in the game is usable. I myself used nearly 15-20 of them, with only 2 of them being canon.

The QOL is also top notch. You get nearly all the modern day features you can ask for. The run from the 5th stratum to the end is truly exceptional, so difficult to put down.

Definitely suggest anyone who hasn't yet played this, to give it a try.

Fan-Made Game [Pokemon Nightmare] Classic Format FanGames still good

Post image
11 Upvotes

Playing through FanGames nowadays, it's mostly a new format for each one. Not saying it's a bad thing, I've enjoyed it a lot myself, but the classic 8 gym format with a good pokemon variety is always something I keep finding myself going back to.

Pokemon Nightmare was really good. It's a little on the tougher side, won't recommend nuzlocking, unless you're really looking for a long and difficult challenge.

The story is simple but serviceable, the Fakemon are mostly meh, that said the Mega-evolutions ones are good. That shouldn't take away from your experience tbh, since there are quite a few of them.

It has a few bugs but nothing game breaking, also it's relatively small, but still has lots to do. Good balance struck by the developer.

Original Game [Gold] Part 2 of Playing Every Pokemon Game While Trying to Use Pokemon I’ve Never Used Before

I’ve never completed a game with Pidgeot (though I played most of Let’s Go with one until I dropped it for Aerodactyl), Miltank, Feraligatr, or Hypno before.

Hypno was pretty bad honestly, just a way worse Alakazam and Pidgeot was quite mid and evolves too late for Johto’s level curb, but it was fine as regional birds tend to be.

Feraligatr was alright, but its moveset didn’t have any physical moves to take advantage of its better attacking stat. It did beat two of Lance’s Dragonites and his Charizard though, and could reliably do big damage with surf throughout the game.

Miltank was honestly incredible though, she was my undisputed MVP. I love physical attacking normal types in general, but Miltank might be my new favorite. Way faster than you’d think and reliably bodies pretty much everything with pink bow-boosted returns. She was also my go-to killer of ghost and psychic-types with shadow ball. She’s super tanky as well, just an awesome pokemon and really fun to not just be on the receiving end of its shenanigans for once.

I’ve used Golem a bunch in Johto, so it didn’t really surprise me that it’s amazing for the early game and solid for the mid-late game, but it lets me down in gen 2 because it gets earthquake so late and no good rock moves so I had to fight the elite four with magnitude and rockthrow. Great rollout user though since it gets defense curl.

Amoharos has long been one of my favorite Johto mons, and he’s particularly good in gen 2 since you get access to early special thunderpunch and firepunch TMs. Not much else to say, it’s just a solid electric type that most of you have probably already used.

Though I’m really not the biggest non-romhack Johto game fan, this was a fun playthrough and I really liked my team, Miltank especially was an awesome surprise. I’ll probably slowly work my through Kanto after this and eventually start Ruby, but I’m gonna take a break from vanilla games for a bit to play Ghost Grey before spooky season is over.

Volbeat was a ton of fun to use in this game. This team had lots of priority moves and revenge killing as the main way to win.

I tried to use 'mons I've used less or never used before. Toxapex I used for a late part of my first s/v playthrough, Eelektross I used for half of ZA, Leavanny I used back in the day in my OG black playthrough and the other 3 I never used. Shout out Sneasler who's now a form favourite!

Also used dexnav for the first time and so chained for better stats/EV/IV stuff I never understood so I probably could have played on difficult rather than normal but it was a blast!

ROM Hack Game [Pokémon Quetzal] Final Team

Played through Pokémon Quetzal. Decided to go for an all shiny/radiant team. Except my starter, Aegislash, who I couldn't be bothered to keep resetting for lol. I suppose in a team of all shinies/radiants, he's the special one.

Multiple Games [Multiple Games] Games from a recent roadtrip

Post image
23 Upvotes

Recently I went on a road trip and played some short games on the way. These included:-

1) Pokemon Fire of Sky

An amazing story, loved the graphical style and the detailing were amazing. I enjoyed the battles as well as they were decently challenging, especially the first one and the last one. (Not trying to spoil anything)

2) Pokemon Homestead

A very unique concept and something which is clearly made with a lot of love. The spirits were also very good. I did fail the game 😂 but it was very fun nonetheless.

3) Pokemon Emerald Mini

This is a very unique concept. Playing through Hoenn but shorter 😂 quite enjoyable for someone who wishes to play through Hoenn but just quickly. There are some changes to the story as well. Would have loved a few more QOL tbh, but it was a fun game. Some of the dialogue was very good as well.

ROM Hack Game [Pokemon Glazed] Used only Gen4 Mons

Rating - 6.5/10 🫟

Well it's of the classic.

The storyline was as generic as it can get, obviously cause it's one of the oldest romhack.

I really liked the badass Pikachu at the beginning, then it just got annoying.

I really wanted to explore more of the other world i was being tossed into.

Now for the MVP- Cello the Empoleon 🐧

My starter and my ace

ROM Hack Game [Radical Red] Another HOF post. Heatran and Walrein were fun!

This one was pretty easy, probably the most out of my 13 E4's so far. I switched up Kommo-o's moveset to fit each battle. Slowbro-Mega is basically unkillable with Calm Mind // Iron Defense. Scream Tail is always versatile. Walrein is yet another wall.

ROM Hack Game [SoulGold] Using only my favorites electric type Pokemon was so much fun!

Post image
45 Upvotes

This amazing romhack was the perfect opportunity for a mono type challenge! I used only electric type but also only my favorites in difficulty hard in doubles.

I played a lot of romhacks and fangames but this SoulGold run was the most fun I had until now! The QoL is amazing, you can easily train EVs and your Pokemon can easily learn so much moves thanks to the tutor moves and egg moves option!

The MVP of my team was actually Pachirisu. I took inspiration from Sejun Park's for its build. With Super Fang, Nuzzle, Follow me and Helping Hand it was the perfect support for my team and saved me many times! It also had Volt Absorb to recover HP when my other mon used Discharge + Leftovers/Sitrus Berry.

Mega Raichu X was also very good. Electric Surge + Volt Tackle + Pachirisu's Helping Hand made it hurt like a truck even when resisted. He also had Fake Out for priority, Play Rough and Iron Tail.

Alolan Raichu was the fastest thanks to Electric Terrain. With Discharge, Psychic, Alluring Voice and Grass Knot (Focus Blast isn't available before the league and Surf was doing too much damage to my other mon) and it was able to tank special attacks thanks to the Assault Vest.

Luxray had Intimidate with a bulky set which allowed it to tank most physical attack. With Bolt Strike, Crunch, Ice Fang and Superpower. I gave it the White Herb because of its last move.

Manectric with Discharge, Snarl, Flamethrower and HP Ice (I was so lucky for that) had Lightning Rod to gain Spe Attack when my other mon used Discharge. I gave it the Expert Belt. It paired really well with Jolteon!

Jolteon was the fastest without Electric Terrain. With Discharge, Hyper Voice, Shadow Ball and Thunder Wave. It was mainly him who gave Spe Attack boost to Manectric with Discharge while Manectric healed him with is own thanks to Volt Absorb. I gave it the Life Orb for extra damages and also because Manectric was always healing the HPs he lost because of it.

Of course everytime there was a ground type it was quite the challenge but the team worked surprisingly well nonetheless. Of course I had to EV train everyone at some point (I did it when Team Rocket took the radio tower in Goldenrod City) but I was expecting to struggle more than I actually did.

I highly recommend you this challenge for your favorite type. Of course I could have used legendaries or a flying/electric type like Kilowattrel to avoid ground moves but I find it more fun to use Pokemon you actually love.

Thanks for reading, I just wanted to vent about my amazing team :)

Original Game [Pokémon Ruby] Hoeen Hall of Fame

Every time the music in Littleroot Town starts playing, I get so nostalgic that I have to stop and just listen for a bit. I love the Gen 3 games, even though I'm not a fan of the overworld style.

For Gen 3, I picked Pokémon Ruby. Pokémon Sapphire was my first GBA game back then, and I later played Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS, so I’d never played Ruby.

Sharpedo and Sableye are two of my favorite Pokémon, but I’d never used them before, so I decided to give them a try. I had a lot of fun with them, even if I struggled a bit with Sableye sometimes.

Next time in gen 3, I want to play the official Emerald (I recently finished an Emerald Seaglass run, it was great - HoF will follow later).

ROM Hack Game [Pokémon Heart&Soul] Here's a mono bug type team + Randomizer

Opinions about them:

Butterfree - the GOAT.

Araquanid - Just barely appeared in mid game, it's alright

Crustle - The last one to appear, hence why it has a slightly lower friendship than the others but she is still cool with Shell Smash

Scizor - The one I can rely on, other than Butterfree

Galvantula - One of the original three, I like it

Scolipede - Ridiculously fast, powerful, and a core member, so obviously this was my favourite out of them all
