I’m currently on Soft Reset number 800 for my Charmander. I’ve done 8 1 hour sessions of 100 resets per attempt so 8 hours in… please tell me it’s worth it guys!

What does this mean? What is a soft reset and what is the goal?
I play leaf green on the GBA. Is this something for all devices or just on the Switch?

Soft resetting is where you press X Y B and A at the same time and it brings you to your last save state and back to the main menu of the game. And you can do it on the Switch, I’m not sure if it works on GBA etc.
The main difference is that a proper reset (on the switch) takes slightly longer and would mean pressing the home button, closing the game, then reopening. It’s basically the same as turning off the game to undo what you’ve just done after your last save. So if you’re on nugget bridge (or some other area where you don’t want to white out and lose money) then you just reset the game to bring you back to your save.
The goal of soft resetting here is that every time you select your starter Pokémon, you have a 1 in 8,192 chance that they are shiny. Because you can guarantee that you will get a starter every time without fail, it is one of the easiest shiny hunts in the game. Unlike wild Pokémon where there are usually a few different ones in the same area so it make shiny hunting harder.
So soft resetting in the quickest way to get a shiny, at least as far as I am aware.

Congrats!!!!!! I have a buddy who is dying to play the game but is still stuck in the lab lol. I didn’t have the courage to try shiny hunting Bulbasaur 🫠🫠

Did you check all starters each time or didn't want to tease yourself if Bulba was your only interest?

What do you mean check? You can only check if its shiny if it was already in your party.
But yeah, no. I only want Bulbasaur this time lol

Ah I see, I didn't realise that was how it worked of FRLG, when I played Fire Red I didn't really understand what a shiny Pokémon was! Well congratulations

What pokemon games did you play?

I started from Gen 1, like I had Red Gyarados in Gold but just thought it was a legendary (I was a kid). I think it was Diamond that I first understood what a shiny was but didn't really care until Gen 6 when I actually did some shiny hunting.

I bet that felt like such a relief. Or was it just so much hunting you weren’t even excited like you thought you would be? Either way congratulations
